Nollis Dewar is a dynamic actor and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. He is renowned for his performances in films such as XXenos (2019), Profited (2018), and Myron Gallimore (2017).
Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, to Myron Dewar and Juliet Reid, Nollis comes from a family with a rich and varied heritage. His great-grandparents, originally from Havana, Cuba, relocated to Jamaica in 1930. Nollis's early life was marked by constant movement-by the age of fourteen, he had attended ten different schools. As the eldest of six sisters and four brothers, Nollis's early years were challenging. His parents, both teenagers at the time of his birth, faced significant financial and emotional struggles, leading his mother to place him in the care of his grandmother, Vita Myrie.
At the age of four, Nollis encountered Rosa Sanders, an American from Los Angeles visiting Jamaica, who was inspired to start a new life on the island. Impressed by Nollis's spirit, she adopted him on May 11, 1989, and provided him with a stable and loving home in Montego Bay's Bogue Heights community.
Nollis's journey continued when he migrated to the United States on July 21, 2001, seeking new opportunities. He earned a scholarship to the University of Connecticut, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Psychology. He further honed his craft at the University of North Alabama, studying theatre. In 2012, he moved to Hollywood, California, driven by a directive from his theatre professor to pursue a career in filmmaking.
Over the years, Nollis has garnered recognition in prominent publications including The New York Times, Bajun Sun Magazine, VoyageLA, Trinidad Express Newspaper, Blue Life Magazine, Episteme Magazine, Bold Journey Magazine, CanvasRebel Magazine, Caribbean E-magazine, and The Jamaica Observer.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Nollis is a dedicated philanthropist. In 2013, he co-founded La Familia Mvts, a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles. The foundation, established with four of his childhood friends, is committed to uplifting disadvantaged communities by addressing issues of indifference, lack of knowledge, and limited opportunities. Through La Familia Mvts, Nollis strives to empower families to lead healthier, more positive, and productive lives.
