Matthew Hayward is a talented, ASC award winning cinematographer with a passion for capturing emotional images and telling stories through his work.
Matthew's body of work includes independent narrative films, camera work for television shows and music videos, most recently in 2023 working with Oscar-nominated director Jonathan Heap and iconic actor Bobby Carradine for an important public service commercial for Redwood Scientific Technologies; the short film "Emerald City" (2023), the TV show "GOGO for the Gold" (2023), the music video "See You in the Rain" (2021), and his award-winning short film "Latent Image" (2018).
Born and raised in the Midwest, Matthew began making films at the young age of eight. Throughout his formative years, he continued to pursue his passion for cinematography, winning a National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Student Award for his documentary "Speak Out for Stephanie."
Matthew went on to study at Columbia College Chicago, where he honed his skills and honed his craft. In 2018, he was awarded the American Society of Cinematographers Heritage Award for Outstanding Cinematography for his short film "Latent Image," which was shot on 35mm film. He further expanded his skills and knowledge through an ASC Master Class taught by renowned cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema.
Matthew's passion for cinematography stems from his love for the power of images and lighting to create emotion and transport the audience to another world. He is dedicated to using his skills and talents to tell captivating and powerful stories through the lens of the camera.
