7 Times Reality TV Show Villains Got Redemption Arcs - Main Image
Reality TV shows give viewers a glimpse into the lives of their stars, and as certain story tropes emerge, audiences naturally perceive some of them as villains.
While these series may not follow the traditional hero-versus-villain narrative, many characters display egos, aggression, or a disconnection from others that leads viewers to see them as antagonists.
However, over time, even the most despised figures can redeem themselves by embracing personal growth—whether through forging new friendships, revealing moments of vulnerability, or admitting their mistakes.
With that in mind, here are 7 times reality TV show villains experienced redemption arcs.
1. Nick Viall – The Bachelor
Nick Viall was initially perceived as a villain due to his aggressive pursuit of love and confrontational moments on The Bachelorette, particularly with Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe.

Is The Real Housewives: Ultimate Girls Trip Season 5 ever going to air? Will a new season ever happen?
In early 2023, we reported that Brandi Glanville was no longer filming Ultimate Girls Trip. After an alleged incident with Caroline Manzo, she’d departed from Morocco. So, too, had Caroline.
What has followed has been downright ugly. Caroline Manzo filed a lawsuit. The cast of Ugt has seemingly not been backing her account of events.
It really looks like NBCUniversal will never give us this season The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. Oh, Season 5 is likely in some form … but not with the Morocco cast.

Ever since an incident that shut down production, the Bachelor franchise has a drink limit. Peter Weber reveals if Traitors does too. Keep reading for more on his surprising answer.
Why Bachelor Imposed Two-Drink Rule
Alcohol is practically its own character on reality TV shows. Some shows have the booze free-flowing for contestants or stars to enjoy throughout filming. But years before The Real Housewives franchise came under fire for allegedly encouraging the ladies to drink, alcohol was the center of a huge scandal in the Bachelor franchise.
Filming of Season 4 of the Bachelor In Paradise spinoff was briefly shut down in 2017. Corinne Olympios and DeMario Jackson were allegedly drunk and engaged in non-consensual intimate acts.

An internal investigation revealed no wrongdoing, and production resumed without Corinne and DeMario. Additionally, new rules were put in place to curb excessive drinking. A...

Et tu, Omarosa? On Thursday's episode of E!'s House of Villains, Bachelor Nation alum Corinne Olympios learned the hard way that there's no such thing as a true ally among this group of reality TV baddies.
It's a lesson Corinne should have internalized last week, when Omarosa Manigualt Newman put her and Tanisha Thomas (of Bad Girls Club fame) up for elimination after professing her loyalty to them. Both women were shocked by the turn of events, and Corinne left The Stronghold kicking herself for trusting Omarosa, the reigning supervillain of the week, in the first place.

House of Villains has an all-star reality TV cast, and we’re excited to dive into the new series. Reality TV villains have been around for as long as the television genre has existed, and fans love to hate the scummiest folks who are cast on these shows. Now, these villains have a second chance to shine. So, what makes each House of Villains cast member a true villain? Here’s what crimes they’ve committed in the past.
‘House of Villains’ cast member Jax Taylor from ‘Vanderpump Rules’ brought the drama
It makes sense that the House of Villains cast would include Jax Taylor from Vanderpump Rules. As one of the original cast members, Jax became known for cheating, lying, and causing severe drama.
Eventually, Jax met Brittany Cartwright, and they could sustain a relationship despite Jax cheating on her with their co-worker. At the time, Brittany told Jax to “rot in hell,...

“I created this villain s–t,” Jonny Fairplay boasted during the “House of Villains” press day ahead of the show’s Oct. 12 premiere. “Good guys are boring!”
The “Survivor” alum, who famously lied about his grandmother dying to gain sympathy from his tribemates while competing on the CBS reality competition in 2003, should know. He’s parlayed those 15 minutes of villainy into a 20-year career.
So has Omarosa, who also made her TV debut 20 years ago in inaugural season of “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump. Even before the days of social media, Omarosa knew the value of personal branding.

Omarosa, who is celebrating 20 years in unscripted television since competing in the first season of “The Apprentice” with Donald Trump in 2003, says many current shows feel “manufactured.”

House of Villains, E!’s new series featuring reality TV baddies such as Vanderpump Rules’ Jax Taylor and The Apprentice’s Omarosa, is looking to “lean into the comedy” of the genre, according to its exec producer.
John Irwin, who runs Irwin Entertainment and has produced celebrity house shows such as Celebrity Rehab and Sober House, told Deadline, “From the beginning, our strategy was to lean into the comedy of this concept and for the show to parody itself and the genre.”
Irwin explained that the show, which pits the reality villains against each other via a series of challenges in order to win $200,000, was initially developed by the NBCUniversal-owned cable network.
John Irwin
He said that Joel McHale was their first choice. “Not only is he insanely funny, he’s also a hard-core fan of reality television and familiar with most of our cast from his days on The Soup.

How many reality TV villains under the same roof can we get?
That's the question E! execs probably asked when they were pitched House of Villains, a new series in the works for the fall.
The cabler announced the cast, premiere date, and first footage for the project, and it definitely has potential.
We'll start with the premiere date. The series begins on Thursday, October 12, at 10/9c.
The cast comprises some big names in the reality TV circuit -- and beyond.
The Apprentice and Celebrity Big Brother alum Omarosa will be present, alongside Flavor of Love and Celebrity Big Brother UK scene-stealer Tiffany "New York" Pollard.
Vanderpump Rules villain Jax Taylor is also on the cast, but we're sure he won't speak about Scandoval.
The cast also includes Jonny Fairplay (Survivor), Corinne Olympios (The Bachelor), Johnny Bananas (The Challenge), Shake Chatterjee (Love Is Blind), and Bobby Lytes (Love & Hip-Hop: Miami...

If you’ve ever found yourself cheering for Big Brother’s Dick Donato or Daniel Durston, or tuning in to The Traitors just for the back-stabbing, then E!’s rumored upcoming show might be your cup of tea. House of Villains is a largely unconfirmed project from the network that first brought us Keeping Up With the Kardashians. And, if the rumors are true, it promises to be a dark and twisty good time.
Given that the entire premise is based on putting reality TV’s most hated and most unlikable villains in a house together, this potential new series won’t be for the faint of heart. Here’s what we know about the project, including rumored cast members and what will-be fans are saying about it already.

Who would think that Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is a huge fan of Bravo? She certainly is, and while she watches many of the Housewives shows, she also loves Vanderpump Rules.
Vanderpump Rules is a spinoff series about Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurant Sur. The show centers around the young staff working at the restaurant and their personal lives. It quickly became a huge hit for Bravo.
Bartender Jax Taylor was one of the biggest stars in the series. He may also have been the worst villain.
‘Vanderpump Rules’: Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright’s story
Taylor was an original cast member of Vanderpump Rules along with Stassi Schroeder, Scheana Shay, Katie Maloney, Tom Sandoval, and Kristen Doute.
Taylor and Schroeder started off in a committed relationship, at least as far as she knew. The bad boy cheated on her multiple times, including once with her Bff Doute.

In 2011, Zac Clark went missing.
The New Jersey native, known for his recent appearance on “The Bachelorette,” left home without saying a word, prompting his family to begin a search. He finally turned up at a bank, trying to cash a forged check stolen from his father. He was desperate for money to get high.
Years before, after suffering a brain tumor, Clark had become addicted to pain pills and was abusing alcohol. When he tried to cash the check, the bank teller knew something was wrong. But instead of calling the police, she called Clark’s father, who rushed to the bank before his son could disappear back onto the streets. Two days later, after hitting what Clark describes as rock bottom, he was in treatment.

Sacha Baron Cohen has courted controversy his entire career, portraying characters, from Ali G and Borat to Bruno, that have pissed off all groups from left to right. He’s an equal-opportunity offender, but his alter-egos have long served to expose the hypocrisies of society by mocking humanity’s worst tendencies. The Bachelor in Paradise process can work, as we've seen with multiple couples. However, a proposal doesn't guarantee a happily ever after. That's what happened in Derek Peth's case, which is why he's back for season six. Let's take a quick walk down memory lane to refresh our minds on Derek's history on the Bachelor franchises.
Derek first stepped onto our TV screens on season 14 of The Bachelorette. He was confident that his two-on-one date would go his way, but his chances with JoJo Fletcher ended when she sent him home that night.
Fast forward to 2017 when Derek entered season four of Bachelor in Paradise. That's where he met Taylor Nolan, who was on season 21 of The Bachelor. You might remember her feud with Corinne Olympios, who was also fighting for Nick Viall's heart, where she made "emotional intelligence" the phrase of the episode.

Much like Chris Harrison promises every week, Monday's episode of The Bachelor involved a lot of drama and even more tears. Last week's episode ended with a "To Be Continued..." that involved Colton Underwood walking off and leaving Onyeka and Nicole from Miami to fight it out about being there for the right reasons. That argument bears some resemblance to the unforgettable Taylor Nolan-Corinne Olympios argument about emotional intelligence and what it really means.
