I really do not understand the mediocre reviews, this is a top notch movie. Fares Fares does a good job, with both the acting and the directing. The story itself is interesting and exciting. The cast also does a great job.
But it's more about action or suspense, what makes this movie so good is that Fares Fares understand people. This feels so damn real, almost TOO real.
Having these sort of parents as Artan and Louise, is far more common than people think. People aren't perfect. People cheat on others, eat pills, have anxiety, lie, mess up and sometimes get overly dramatic.
This movie captures REAL LIFE perfectly. No Hollywood clichés, no perfect happy endings, no bullcrap. It gives EVERYONES perspective, there are no clear good guys or bad guys, just PEOPLE with different backgrounds, perspectives, understandings of the situation and emotions. This is one of the best movies I've seen in years, due to it being so human.
