More Schmerz from Viennese Jews caught in National Socialism's destruction
6 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER: Zweig was a prolific but mediocre writer, rich but not someone to laud too much. He ends up in, of all places, Brasil where the locals don't have the skill to tell a fraud from a read writer. It is a depressing movie since Zweig was very depressed -- who would give up New York City in 1941 for a backwater in Brasil? He and his second wife committed suicide, the best ending to a terrible movie. This movie was produced by his fans as an act of love and respect but it certainly doesn't come off as such. It could have been made by Nazis!
