John Benson (Derren Nesbitt) and Freddy Tisdale (John Hurt) escape from Strangeways prison in Manchester.

Benson has arranged the escape and he plans to go to Manchester to deal with his wife sho shopped him.

The first hiccup is Benson kills a car park attendant who was once in the same prison.

When they get to London, Benson has arranged to see his young son Syd (Michael Cashman) and also take him to South America.

Benson knows that will drive his wife mad not knowing what happened to their son.

Tisdale is concerned that Benson has taken leave of his senses.

Gideon has sorted protection for Benson's wife but the policeman could not keep tabs on Syd.

Nesbitt does well as the violent sociopath. He becomes unhinged at the end. It just seems remarkable that he had a plan so meticulously worked out and then it quickly went to pot.

Sir John Hurt has an early television role, coincidentally there is police box featured in this story. Lord Michael Cashman started out as a child actor, found fame in Eastenders, became a Labour MEP and then got sent to the House of Lords.
