Featured review
This is one of the famous tango singer Carlos Gardel earliest films and the copy I have the chance to see has a terrible sound and image, so it is difficult to judge certain aspects. Filmed in France and produced by Paramount, this film (also entitled Aventuras deun criollo en España) is definitely not one of Gardel's best films, and he does not sing his best songs either, but still enjoyable to hear him singing in his inimitable style the rumba "Por tusojos negros" (including a duet with Spanish dancer and foot work stomping Goyita Herrero), the zamba "Criollita demis amores" (a song he later recorded with some changes in its lyrics as "Criollita demis ensueños") and the tangos "Meda pena confesarlo" and "Estudiante", all of them written by Alfredo Le Pera, who also wrote the script. Also starring guitar player Horacio Pettorossi and Spanish singer and dancer Lolita Benavente. Recommended to all Carlos Gardel fans, it should be urgently restored.
