He also gave specific instructions that Ilse Werner will get the lead. The Reichsfilm director Fritz Hippler said that the movie was "Goebbels' child".

The radio program "Wunschkonzert für die Wehrmacht" (Wishing concert for the Wehrmacht), that is the base for the movie, was an actual radio show, broadcasted between 1939 and 1941 every Sunday between 15:00 and 20:00 and was featuring music, that was wished by the soldiers and their families. It was broadcasted by all radio stations in the German Reich.
