This film was released in January of 1942, and the action takes place in 1941. The shipping tag on the large trunk shows the sailing date to Honolulu as Saturday, December 6th, which was the day before the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Although this film was made long before product placement became prevalent in films, the Del-Monte logo is shown on crates in the hold of the ship.
Other product placements in this film are cartons of Chesterfield cigarettes and a sign for Challenge ice cream.
This film is considered to have introduced into popular culture the fake "pew pew" movie suppressor sound. The sound engineer came up with it as a way to make suppressed sounds different from normal firearm sounds. Despite it bearing no relation to the relative loudness of real suppressed firearms, this sound effect has continued to be used in film, media, video games, etc. until this day.
