First appearance of a new, slower rendition of "Three Blind Mice" as the Stooges' theme music, arranged by John Leipold and Nico Grigor. It was used until 1948.
This was made shortly after Curly Howard recovered from another stroke. You can see that his speech is at times slurred and his normally lightning-quick reactions are slowed down considerably. His health continued to deteriorate over the next two years, and with few exceptions--Micro Phonies (1945) being one--it became more and more noticeable in his work. He made his last short in 1947 and died in 1952.
This has a plot identical to Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's short The Laurel-Hardy Murder Case (1930). Fred Kelsey even plays a domineering detective in both shorts.
When The Three Stooges are running down the stairs, before bumping into the crook disguised as a housekeeper, you can see that a double for Curly Howard took his place for the scene. This was likely to prevent Curly from using so much of his declining energy, and to keep his blood pressure from getting too high.
A rare appearance for Fred Kelsey without his trademark derby and toothbrush mustache.
