This live DuMont Television Network prime time variety series was where the first "The Honeymooners" episodes were seen. It aired on Saturday night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time in its first season, then moved to Fridays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time in its second season. Its final broadcast was on September 26, 1952.
The first "The Honeymooners" sketch aired on October 5, 1951. Jackie Gleason considered the names "The Beast", "The Lovers", and "The Couple Next Door" before settling on "The Honeymooners".
Pert Kelton played the original Alice Kramden in the Honeymooners sketches only on this Cavalcade of Stars series. When revived in Gleason's next variety series Audrey Meadows took on the Alice role. Pert's portrayal was as a tough New York woman, maybe too tough for early TV audiences.
