From Here to Eternity is a 1952 novel by James Jones. It is loosely based on Jones' experiences in the pre-World War II Hawaiian Division's 27th Infantry. The movie fairly accurately follows the novel. From Here to Eternity won the 1954 Academy Award for Best Motion Picture.
