Jeopardy! Masters viewers are wondering if host Ken Jennings unintentionally revealed some shocking news on Wednesday’s (May 1) episode when he implied ABC’s The Chase had been canceled. The comment came during the Masters premiere, which saw Jeopardy! Invitational Tournament winner Victoria Groce dominate super-champs Mattea Roach and Matt Amodio with 29,867 points. Groce is a pro-quizzer who appears on The Chase as “The Queen.” During the player anecdotes, Jennings addressed Groce, saying, “And our viewers probably remember you from The Chase, where you were known as The Queen.” “Are,” Groce replied, highlighting how Jennings spoke in the past tense. “Are, sorry,” Jennings replied as Groce laughed and told him, “That’s alright.” “Thank you for taking time out of your busy regal schedule to be with us on Masters,” the host added. Fans also picked up on Jennings’ wording and took to social media to share their concerns. “Is The Chase cancelled or not?...

The future of Paramount may be decided in the coming days. In addition to a bid from Skydance, the Wall Street Journal reports Sony and Apollo Global Management have teamed up to offer $26 billion in cash for the entertainment company. Jeopardy! champion Amy Hummel was looking for her sixth consecutive victory on Wednesday night (May 1) but came undone by a “brutal” mispronunciation ruling that cost her the game. Hummel, an ER doctor from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, had already amassed an impressive $100,994 across her first five games and looked to add to that total on Wednesday’s episode. She was up against Nils Cousin, an attorney from Washington, D.C., and Weckiai Rannila, an engineer from Albuquerque, New Mexico. After the first round, the game was close, with Cousin in a slight lead with $6,000, Rannila following behind with $5,400, and Hummel trailing with $3,000. As the three contestants entered the Double Jeopardy round, it was all very much still to play for. But Hummel couldn’t make up the deficit despite finding both Daily Doubles, answering neither correctly. This saw her drop out of contention with just $3,600 going into Final Jeopardy, while Rannila led...

And we’re off to the races. Jeopardy! Masters‘ second season premiered Wednesday night, and the studio was brimming with excitement… and a whole lotta personality. James Holzhauer, for example, declared himself the “main event” of the tournament without any hint of jest (even when he was trailing well behind his competitors in the game). And Victoria Groce clarified that she’s still the “queen” of The Chase — no past tense references allowed, even by Ken Jennings. Conversely, Amy Schneider was a bit more reserved as she grappled with being the one person in the competition who hadn’t technically earned their way into it. Let’s revisit all the major highlights from Games 1 and 2 of Jeopardy! Masters Season 2 from the top: Game One This set saw Victoria Groce, Matt Amodio, and Mattea Roach in competition with one another… and by competition, we mean ...

Why did The Conners lose its time slot and get moved so close to the end of Season 6? There are just a handful of episodes left yet the show had been moved back much later. So, what is the reason for this switch? Keep reading for more details.
Why Did ‘The Conners’ Lose Time Slot, Get Moved?
The Conners has been a staple on Wednesdays at 8 pm on ABC since Season 5. Prior to that, however, it aired at 9 pm. The move did not really matter much as fans were just happy the show was getting renewed. It was on shaky ground as it started as a Roseanne reboot in 2018. Then, she was fired but the cast and crew were not done just yet. So, the matriarch was killed off and the series was rebranded and has lasted six seasons, bringing back many familiar faces. Now, the show is moving to a brand new time slot.

As reported by The Mirror, during the show’s anecdote section, Percentie revealed to host Ken Jennings that his grandmother inspired the hit Jimmy Buffett song “Cheeseburger in Paradise.” Percentie said his family comes from a small island in the Bahamas, Harbor Island, and “According to family lore, Jimmy Buffett came to the hotel/restaurant my grandma founded and [he] had a cheeseburger there. That was his inspiration to write Cheeseburger in Paradise.” Jennings was impressed, telling Percentie, “Your grandmother’s cheeseburgers were so good that he wrote a hit song about them. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the April 23 episode of Jeopardy!] Nam Nguyen set an impressive buzzer stat in the April 22 game of Jeopardy!. His buzzer percentage was 71 percent, which host Ken Jennings said was “almost unheard of” at the top of the April 23 episode. But his speedy buzzing (which he attributes to his video game experience) wasn’t enough to protect the one-day champ from an incorrect answer in Final Jeopardy. Nguyen, a playwright from Mississauga, Ontario, was playing against Mark Lashley, a professor from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Lianne Schaffer, a piano teacher and musician from Newton, Massachusetts on Tuesday. He enjoyed a large lead for the entire game, and a runaway game was nearly possible. Thanks to some Daily Double action, Lashley was able to catch up to the point where his score was just a bit more than half of Nguyen’s. The scores going into the final were Nguyen with $17,600, Lashley with $9,000, and Schaffer with $7,000. ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the April 22 episode of Jeopardy!] If you tuned in to the April 22 episode of Jeopardy!, you likely noticed that there was something different about one of the contestants during half of the Jeopardy! round. Marko Saric, a math professor from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, returned with a two-day total of $26,600 and faced off against Elly Trickett, a blog & podcast editor from Danbury, Connecticut, and Nam Nguyen, a playwright from Mississauga, Ontario. Saric was dominating at the first break of the Jeopardy! round, leading $9,000 to Nguyen’s $2,400 and Trickett’s $1,000. What viewers may or may not have noticed is that Trickett did not have her glasses on for the interviews portion of the episode nor the rest of that first round; Trickett had given the last correct response and appeared to be reaching into her pocket when host Ken Jennings instructed her to select the next clue. A Wheel of Fortune contestant just got their game show redemption but how did they do so? Some game shows offer second chances or championship episodes. So, what happened in this situation? Keep reading for more details on this lucky player.
Wheel Of Fortune Contestant Gets Game Show Redemption
The fun thing about Jeopardy! is that there is always a chance to return. There is the Tournament of Champions and the Second Chance Tournament. With the latter, contestants who did not win in their first appearance were able to seek redemption. This is a way to show that they know their stuff and play once again. Not everyone is able to be a part of this but there are other game shows to partake in. Scott Menke did appear on Jeopardy! in 2009 on their college show but lost in Final Jeopardy!

Marko Saric might not have had the most impressive one-day cash winnings coming into his second game of Jeopardy!, but he still had the title of “champion”, and that’s what counts! Now, he’s got a lot more to boast about. On Friday’s episode, Saric officially made it a streak by besting contestants Molly Fitzpatrick and Scott Nations. Saric, who’s a math professor from North Carolina, started with $3,799 and ended the day with $26,600 in a two-day total. As a mathematician, he’ll no doubt agree that the growth rate of his winnings is impressive. Saric didn’t dominate all game, of course. The first round saw him get 11 correct and 2 incorrect for $4,800, just slightly above Fitzpatrick’s $4,000 and double that of Nations at $2,400. Really, though, if Fitzpatrick had just gotten her Daily Double question correct, she would’ve been well ahead of him in round one. Round...

Paramount is currently in exclusive negotiations with Skydance on a potential merger, but there is another contender lurking — one coming from way out of left field.
The New York Times reported Thursday that Sony Pictures Entertainment is in talks with Apollo Global Management on teaming up for a potential joint bid to buy Paramount. There has not been an official offer on the table because of the formal exclusive negotiations, but this one threatens to be seismic. There is one degree of separation between the potential joint venture: Sony and the Apollo-backed Legendary Pictures already have a distribution deal.
When reached by IndieWire, Sony had no comment on the report. Same with Paramount, and Apollo did not immediately respond to our inquiry. We get it: we’re sort of speechless too.
A Sony Pictures and Paramount Pictures studio combination would be an instant Hollywood juggernaut. (So much so that...

Jeopardy! super-champ Matt Amodio has come to the defense of a fellow contestant who lost Tuesday’s (April 16) game after an unfortunate Daily Double blunder. On Tuesday’s episode, Eric Reimund, a substitute teacher originally from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, took on Veronica Tabor, a study abroad advisor from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and reigning champion Alison Betts, who at that point had won three consecutive games. Reimund gave Betts a run for her money, answering multiple clues correctly and finding both Daily Doubles during the Double Jeopardy! round. However, he found himself having to rebuild his score after he forgot to phrase his (correct) answer in the form of a question. Amodio took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the brutal mistake, noting that the pressure can get to you under the bright lights. He also used the moment to explain the unusual strategy he adopted during his 38-game winning streak.

Jeopardy!‘s regular gameplay continues and with it the streak of five-day champion Alison Betts, who returned to play alongside new competitors Marko Saric and Rob Blumenstein. The writer and creative executive from San Jose, California had already won $121,500 over her first five games, but was the latest episode about to raise her earnings? Although they technically were by the way second-place prizes work, Alison walked away with $2,000 more in winnings but ultimately ended her streak. Jeopardy!, Inc. In the Jeopardy! round, Alison started strong, finishing in the lead with $5,000 against Rob’s $3,600 and Marko’s $4,400. But the tides changed in Double Jeopardy! when Marko took the lead after finding the third Daily Double, finishing the round out with $12,900 against Alison’s $11,000, and Rob’s $9,600. When it came to Final Jeopardy!, the category was “Alphabetical America,” with the clue reading, “Until Alabama became the 22nd state, this one was first alphabetically.

It takes a lot of confidence and courage to wager a “True Daily Double” on Jeopardy! Whether it goes right or wrong for the contestant at hand, that outcome will almost certainly change the game. Unfortunately, for one of Wednesday night’s contestants, it was for the worse. The contestants of the April 17–– episode were Alison Betts — a four-time champion who walked onto the stage with $107,700 in cash winnings under her belt — along with attorney Jeff Plate and business executive Vidya Ravella. The first round proved it was truly anybody’s game, even if Betts had the edge with the intimidation factor of being on a hot streak. After getting one-third of her answers wrong, she still led the pack with $3,600. Both Plate and Ravella were just behind her, though, and with much better statistics to boot: Plate got six right and one wrong, while Ravella got eight right and two incorrect answers.

Jeopardy! fans are seriously annoyed after an incorrect clue was featured during Double Jeopardy!
Reigning champion Alison Betts was playing against her competitors, Sarah Avery and Brian Phillips, when she opted for a $1,200 clue in the “American Birds” category.
The San Jose, California native’s clue was a video featuring a brown-winged bird as it fluttered its wings.
Host Ken Jennings read the clue to Alison: “The Cooper’s type of this bird of prey is soon to be the Tbd type as American birds will no longer have people in their common names.”
When Alison’s guess, “Finch,” was deemed incorrect, Ken told her the correct answer was, “Cooper’s Hawk.”
But, some hawk-eyed (pun intended) Jeopardy! viewers pointed out that the bird in question wasn’t a hawk but a falcon.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Tuesday, April 16, 2024 episode of Jeopardy!] Alison Betts is now a four-day Jeopardy! champ. Her fourth consecutive victory was nearly thwarted by her competitor, but a snafu in Double Jeopardy, plus a stumper in the final round, led to her lucky win. Competing in the April 16, 2024 match were Eric Reimund, a substitute teacher from Collegeville, Pennsylvania; Veronica Tabor, a study abroad advisor from Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Betts, a writer and creative executive from San Jose, California. Betts began the game with $97,500 in winnings so far, and she walked away having increased that total to $107,700. With a score of $5,200 and her opponents far behind, Betts led the first round. But Reimund caught up in to her in the second and found both of the Daily Doubles, but he made the biggest mistake you can make in Jeopardy that made him lose the second of these clues: he forgot to answer in the form ...

There's a lot to like about Jeopardy tournaments that bring back the show's top-performing contestants and pit them head-to-head in single-elimination battle royales.
But as the film studio execs who kept blowing up the superhero franchise until it exploded have recently learned the hard way, too much of a good thing can lead to alienated audiences.
And now more than ever, once you lose 'em, it's hard to win 'em back.
To be clear, there's no indication that Jeopardy's recent string of tournaments -- the longest in series history -- has had a negative impact on the show's ratings.
But "tournament fatigue" has become a buzzword in the Jeopardy-obsessed corners of social media, and media outlets have begun running editorials alleging that the show has lost its way by focusing too much on past victors.
