Like Julius Caesar's expressing feelings of betrayal to Brutus, Mr. Hilliard exasperatedly asks Thing, "You, too?" when Thing is patting his shoulder to comfort him during his loud bawlings about the prospect of having Pugsley and Wednesday in his school again; Mr. Hilliard feels additional distress that he will also have to deal with Thing, whose "disembodied hand" attribute freaks him out. Because his school is in significant debt, however, Mr. Hilliard feels as if he has no choice but to accept the Addams's family "lock, stock, and barrel", since they are making such a generous up-front donation.
