'Saint Joan': Constance Cummings as the George Bernard Shaw heroine. Constance Cummings on stage: From sex-change farce and Emma Bovary to Juliet and 'Saint Joan' (See previous post: “Constance Cummings: Frank Capra, Mae West and Columbia Lawsuit.”) In the mid-1930s, Constance Cummings landed the title roles in two of husband Benn W. Levy's stage adaptations: Levy and Hubert Griffith's Young Madame Conti (1936), starring Cummings as a demimondaine who falls in love with a villainous character. She ends up killing him – or does she? Adapted from Bruno Frank's German-language original, Young Madame Conti was presented on both sides of the Atlantic; on Broadway, it had a brief run in spring 1937 at the Music Box Theatre. Based on the Gustave Flaubert novel, the Theatre Guild-produced Madame Bovary (1937) was staged in late fall at Broadway's Broadhurst Theatre. Referring to the London production of Young Madame Conti, The...

Someone made the ultimate Survivor blunder tonight, and then paid the price for that blunder. What happened and who went home? My full recap will be up later, but to find out and sound off on what happened, read on for more. [Spoiler Alert: Read on only if you have already watched Wednesday’s episode of Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water.] Just don't do it: That's my advice for any knucklehead going on Survivor who thinks it is a good idea to throw a challenge. Because it just isn't. It never is. Doesn't matter if you don't like someone or think someone is dangerous and needs to go. Because should you throw that challenge, then the person going home could be you.

Every week, host Jeff Probst will answer a few questions about the latest episode of 'Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water.' Entertainment Weekly: Well, Jeff, this seems pretty clearly to be a case of John Rocker’s past coming back to haunt him. Once Jeremy decided to use that as a weapon against him and Natalie seized upon it, was that pretty much it for him? Jeff Probst: I think the incident at the challenge was probably a big impetus for voting out Rocker. I remember that challenge pretty clearly and I remember feeling "this is ugly.

There was a huge blow-up after the immunity challenge in tonight’s episode of Survivor: San Juan del Sur. What happened and who went home as a result? My full recap will be up later [Update: Dalton's recap is now live], but to find out and sound off on what happened, read on for more. [Spoiler Alert: Read on only if you have already watched Wednesday’s episode of Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water.] Upset that their loved ones were the first two players voted out, Jeremy and Natalie sought revenge. I've been too generous to Coyopa. That's been the takeaway from my first two "Survivor: San Juan Del Sur" exit interview of the season. I've been paying too much attention to a couple very close performances in challenges and not nearly enough attention to the sheer number of challenge losses accrued by a tribe that is only a few weeks from the sort of Pagonging that could throw this season's Blood vs. Water twist out of whack. Val Collins, the season's second booted castaway, doesn't suffer fools and, in the case of this interview, I got to be the fool in asking why things have been so tough for Coyopa when it didn't seem like it should be that bad a tribe. "What? You don't think it looked like a bad tribe? Are you kidding me?" Val asked me, incredulous. "This couldn’t have been the worst tribe." She makes...

It's finale time! Here's Holly's review of Extant's last episode...
This review contains spoilers.
1.13 Ascension
I told you not to press the big green button. It paid off! As I said last week, I didn’t really think it mattered what happened in this week’s season finale of Extant, as I and probably a great number of its viewership have disengaged at this point. I was expecting, honestly, a really dissatisfying deus ex machina with little green men or such; what I got instead was actually a really well done finale and just a good hour of TV.
We got a lot of answers, which again, I wasn’t expecting. I’ll start, though, with what we still don’t know - a surprisingly short list. The most glaring absence that I could see was Yasumoto - we didn’t see him at all. Same with Sparks.

A public service announcement, courtesy of this week’s Extant: When you hear an ominous thudding throughout your home, it may be caused by some sneakers tumbling against the walls of the clothes dryer. Or? The alien who’s taken the form of your dead boyfriend might be waiting for you in the kitchen. #themoreyouknow
Sadly for Molly and her asymmetrical haircut of Wtf-is-going-on-here, Faux-cus’ appearance in the breakfast nook is the least disturbing development that takes place in the episode. Mysterious symbols branding themselves on her abdomen? A concern-causing brain scan? Hints that John and Julie maybe are more than humanich-building buds?...
