Audrey Hepburn's television debut was on the CBS show "We the People" on December 21, 1951 in which she re-enacted her experiences in Arnheim, The Netherlands during WWII; she then appeared in the drama on CBS Television Workshop, "Rainy Day in Paradise Junction" (CBS April 13, 1954)
Anatole Litvak had previously directed the French film version of Mayerling (1936), starring Danielle Darrieux as Marie and Charles Boyer as Rudolf.
Audrey Hepburn's character in the film makes a wish. When asked by Mel Ferrer's character what her wish was, she replied "to die before you." Hepburn would predecease Ferrer by 15 years in real life.
