William Preston "Wild Bill" Longley was a real person. He was a gunfighter and a murderer who was known for being a liar, bigot, and thief. Only Hollywood could make him into a hero. He was hung in Nacogdoches, Texas in 1878 after being captured in Keatchi, Louisiana.
