Obviously it wasn’t by design, but the early-1950s renewal of the western genre, aided in large part by the success of Winchester ’73, which heralded a career second act for both its director, Anthony Mann, and its star, James Stewart, was answered in other quarters of the industry by multiple endeavors to take the once disreputable genre, previously dismissed as Roy Rogers/Saturday-matinee bunkum, all the way into the hallowed halls of state-sanctioned, capital-a art. And, as it happened, the two westerns that made a big runner-up showing at the 1952 and 1953 Oscars, High Noon and Shane, respectively, also served, by virtue of holding what wide swaths of the future cinephile demographic would come to view as Vichy letters of transit, as high-value targets for skeptics of the official cultural narrative.

A body has been found near the location in which actor Julian Sands went missing five months ago. While the remains have not been confirmed to be that of Sands’, the circumstances have led many to fear the worst.
The body was discovered by hikers on Saturday, who contacted authorities. As per the official press release from the San Bernardino County sheriff’s office, “The decedent was transported to the Coroner’s Office, pending positive identification. Identification should be completed next week at which time we will update this press release. No further details are available at this time.”
Julian Sands was declared missing back in January. Since then, authorities have conducted eight searches both on ground and in air, with over 500 volunteer hours clocked. There have also been several missions around that time that were unrelated to Sands. Most recently, the sheriff’s department detailed how one of the latest missions unfolded.

Authorities confirmed that human remains have been found near the search area where British actor Julian Sands went missing during a hike in January.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Dept. confirmed late on Saturday that civilian hikers discovered human remains in the Mt. Baldy wilderness earlier that day.

The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department continued its search for English actor Julian Sands on Saturday, but were unsuccessful in finding him.
The search included Sheriff’s Department staff, deputies and more than 80 search and rescue volunteers. They were aided by two helicopters and drones searching from the air and areas that were not accessible for ground crews.
An experienced mountain hiker, Sands was reported missing during a hike on Mount Baldy — which is located 12 miles north of Ontario, California, in the Angeles National Forest — in mid-January. The area was hit with snowstorms soon after, which impeded search missions. The Sheriff Department reported that despite warmer weather there are still areas that are frozen and inaccessible to search crews.

Welcome to the latest instalment of a brand-new feature here on Nerdly, where one of our comic gurus, Ian Wells, delves into comics history and dissects Comics Interview, the long-running journal of interviews and criticism from David Anthony Kraft.
Up Front & Credits
Joining the ranks this issue we have Klaus Janson, Lou Mougin, Bob Saland, Charlie Santino and Barry Kleggerman. A very short Up Front from Dak this month as he uses the space to outline one of two new features debuting in Comics Interview this issue. The first is ‘Out of Context’ which is to ask several interview subjects the same question to get a varied response. The question for the first instalment is “People are very concerned about the recent spate of deaths of superheroes – Why do you suppose that is?” This time round the responses come from Steve Oliff, Steve Gerber and Terry Austin. The first reactions for the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are in following its first screening this past weekend at Disneyland Paris. They’re looking like the trilogy capper may be one of the best in the entire universe…well, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The reactions look to place the third Guardians of the Galaxy not just as the best in the trilogy but next to 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which is generally considered one of–if not the–best Marvel movies.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is a brilliant end to a brilliant trilogy. It's very funny, emotional and everybody gets their stand-out moment. Will Poulter's Warlock is a terrific addition, yet the focus is rightly on telling a satisfying end for the Guardians. Gonna miss them. pic.twitter.com/ot6L67Q9Cf

Happy Friday, dear readers! While time might feel like a bit of a flat circle right now, the weekend is officially upon us once again, and I don’t know about you, but these days, movies are providing a very much-needed distraction. With that in mind, I thought I’d put together a list of horror and sci-fi movies that were released throughout the 1990s that you can currently stream for free on a variety of platforms like Vudu, Tubi TV, Crackle, Pluto TV, and IMDb TV.
I just figured we often spend a lot of time celebrating genre movies from the 1980s, so it was time to give the ’90s their due, and there are a lot of great movies from that era that you can currently watch for free via streaming.
Stay safe, stay healthy and happy streaming!

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently on hold, the future remains uncertain for the sci-fi sequel, assuming the movie even gets as far as completion. What’s more, the effects of this news may have rippled into the upcoming Avengers 4, with some speculating that the Guardians’ stories have been rewritten to account for the awkward state that the series is currently in.
This makes it all the more difficult to predict the paths that these characters will take in next year’s highly anticipated release, but that won’t stop certain fans from taking a crack at it. Reddit user Hockeytalkie, for example, has a theory to share, and unsurprisingly, it all goes back to the late Gamora.
The Redditor starts things off, however, by addressing the matter of the Infinity Stones, which Thanos used to eradicate half of all life from the universe in the recent Avengers: Infinity War.

Up until now, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has earned its success by delivering a rich and complex film franchise all the while remaining relatively loyal to the source material.
It’s not a one-to-one adaptation, of course, as Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has made a conscious decision to take some of the more fantastical characters (see: Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange) and ensure that they are compelling, yes, but also inherently believable. So much so that you often forget you’re watching a wizard and a witch battle evil alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
And in keeping with tradition, it seems the untitled Avengers 4 will also split from comic book canon by ignoring the Skrulls, along with that Sequel Wars storyline that continues to be floated as a possible rumor. All of this (and more!) is covered in Webhead’s latest speculative video, which can be viewed in all of its glory down below.

When it comes to Marvel Comics, Adam Warlock has a pretty long and storied history with the Infinity Gauntlet. And it turns out the fan-favorite space pirate almost made the cut for Avengers: Infinity War.
Asked if there were any characters that were floated early on in the creative process, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely told Entertainment Tonight that Warlock, a renown anti-hero who was originally teased at the tail-end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, came pretty damn close.
Alas, the creative duo decided against a Warlock cameo, as doing so would have been a disservice to a character who really deserves a standalone movie of his own.
Well, there are some in the original Infinity Gauntlet series that are…Like, we didn’t introduce Adam Warlock, because it’s a massive backbend and you practically have to make an Adam Warlock movie to introduce him. He just can’t walk onscreen.

The “adult” Western – as it would come to be called – was a long time coming. A Hollywood staple since the days of The Great Train Robbery (1903), the Western offered spectacle and action set against the uniquely American milieu of the Old West – a historical period which, at the dawn of the motion picture industry, was still fresh in the nation’s memory. What the genre rarely offered was dramatic substance.
Early Westerns often adopted the same traditions of the popular Wild West literature and dime novels of the 19th and early 20th centuries producing, as a consequence, highly romantic, almost purely mythic portraits the Old West. Through the early decades of the motion picture industry, the genre went through several creative cycles, alternately tilting from fanciful to realistic and back again. By the early sound era, and despite such serious efforts as The Big Trail (1930) and The Virginian (1929), Hollywood Westerns were,...

The TCM movies are former Hollywood Ten blacklistee-turned-informer Edward Dmytryk's Western Warlock (1959), Andrew L. Stone's disaster movie The Last Voyage (1960), actor-turned-director John Ireland's crime thriller The Fast and the Furious (1954), Henry Levin's crime drama Convicted (1950), Charles Marquis Warren's Western Tension at Table Rock (1956), and Richard Quine's crime drama Pushover (1954), which also features Kim Novak.
