      Due to Gigot (1962) not being a success, 20th Century Fox did not want to cast Jackie Gleason as Popeye Doyle in The French Connection (1971).
    • Goofs
      The Baker scoops coins into his hand from the counter and places them in a paper bag. He then puts the bag into a metal box. Except, he missed one coin on the counter. The scene cuts to Gigot in the doorway and then back to the Baker holding the metal box and the coin on the counter is gone.

    I found this movie truly moving.

    Gleason was at his best in this drama. Never before or since have I found a movie so charming and well done. Virtually "talk free" I was captivated by Gleasons' portrayal. No other actor comes close to his caliber.
