Echelon Studios is proud to announce Korean director Kim Ki-young's posthumous feature and critical hit, An Experience to Die For aka Be a Wicked Woman, will screen in New York and be available online later this month.
The film follows Yuh-jung, played by Academy Award winner Youn Yuh-jung (Minari), and Myeong-ja, played by Lee Tam-mi, two wounded wives who meet by chance and agree to take revenge on each other's husbands.
The film remains one of Kim's most controversial works and marks the director' third collaboration with Youn, following her appearance in Woman of Fire (1971) and The Insect Woman (1972).
Although completed in 1990, the movie wasn't seen until after Kim's death in 1998, when it was shown for the first time during the Busan International Film Festival. This screening marks the first time the film has been shown in the U.S.

If you’re after real nonconformist filmmaking with a political bent, Shohei Imamura’s daring and often sexually candid pictures fit the bill. Arrow gathers three of his best from the 1980s, the international success The Ballad of Narayama, the stunning Hiroshima aftermath drama Black Rain and the largely unseen, often wickedly funny Zegen. Each is disturbing, politically pointed and relentlessly honest. Arrow appoints this three- title set with new expert audio commentaries and Tony Rayns featurettes, plus a fat essay booklet. Zegen, we are told, has never before been available subtitled in English.
