Documentary fans have a lot to be excited about this month on HBO and Max. April begins with the premiere of The Synanon Fix, a docuseries that follows the rise and fall of the cult-like drug rehabilitation program Synanon. The documentary Brandy Hellville and the Cult of Fast Fashion takes a deep-dive into the controversial “one size fits most” clothing brand Brandy Mellville and the impact of fast fashion on the planet.
An American Bombing: The Road to April 19th looks at the surge of political violence and anti-government sentiment that led to the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing, and the effects still felt nearly 30 years later. HBO is also returning with a second part to their popular docuseries The Jinx, with filmmakers continuing their investigation of Robert Durst.

Marvel Studios currently has several movies in development, with one of the most notable being ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on early comments from viewers, it’s expected to rejuvenate faith in the MCU among fans.
Reportedly, this movie was chosen as the sole release for 2024 following disappointing performances of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.’
According to Daniel Richtman, a well-known source, director Shawn Levy has impressed MCU executives, leading to expectations of more projects for him in the future.
Shawn Levy began his career directing television and gained fame in the 2000s with comedies like ‘Big Fat Liar’ and ‘Just Married.’ He went on to helm successful franchises such as ‘Cheaper by the Dozen,’ ‘The Pink Panther,’ and ‘Night at the Museum.’ In the early 2010s, Levy directed ‘Date Night’ and ‘Real Steel,’ alongside developing TV pilots and producing ‘Last Man Standing.’

Marvel Studios has quite a few movies currently in development or rumored to be currently in development and one of the most notable ones is certainly ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ Based on the comments so far from the people who have seen parts of the movie, it’s going to be an McU-saver and restore the faith of the fans in the franchise as a whole.
Reportedly, that was the reason why it was selected to be the only movie to release in 2024 following the abysmal results of ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,’ movies that barely scraped by when it comes to the box office.
Now according to Daniel Richtman, notable scooper and leaker, the movie’s director Shawn Levy impressed the execs of MCU and we can expect him to get more projects down the line.

Shawn Levy's 2011 sci-fi film "Real Steel" takes place in the near future of 2020 when boxing and Mma have been banned, having been replaced by high-octane robot fights. Robot "trainers" buy up powerful, tank-like fighting bots, program their unique fighting moves prior to a match, and then pit them against each other in outsize, heavily sponsored arenas. The robot to remain un-smashed is declared the victor. Hugh Jackman plays a former boxer turned robot trainer who aims to purchase a high-profile robot called Noisy Boy and relive his glory days, but his attempts fail. Instead, he begins seeing potential in a battered, unassuming, out-of-date sparring robot named Atom salvaged from a dump. The robots in "Real Steel" aren't alive, but Levy does throw in a handful of shots implying that Atom may be ... feeling something.
"Real Steel" wasn't talked about a lot upon its release, and only opened to $27 million domestically.

Rod Serling was famous for a lot of things. He was one of the most acclaimed television writers of the mid-20th century, the creator of the genre-defining anthology series "The Twilight Zone," he co-wrote the screenplay to the original "Planet of the Apes," and he even helped give Steven Spielberg his big break. But even though he's famous for a lot of things, he was a prolific writer and even some of his best and most fascinating projects have been largely forgotten by the public over time. Like, for example, an adaptation of one of the most popular Christmas stories ever told, transformed into one of the most politically charged Christmas movies ever filmed.
Serling was no stranger to Christmas stories. After all, he wrote the classic yuletide episode "Night of the Meek," a hopeful story about an alcoholic department store Santa who stumbles across a magical sack that...

The Shape is back! Well, of course he is. He can't be killed, after all, and the "Halloween" franchise must go on to ensure that Michael Myers will still be terrorizing the fine folks in Haddonfield for generations to come. "Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers" continued the trend established in "Halloween 4" and "Halloween 5" of weirdly copying the sequel titles of the "Pink Panther" movies starring Peter Sellers. There was "The Return," then "The Revenge" and now it was time to dive a little deeper into "Halloween" lore, for better or worse.
Honestly, it was something of a miracle that "Halloween 6" even got made at all. After becoming the first in the series to actually premiere on Friday the 13th, "Halloween 5" was the lowest grossing movie of the franchise when it opened in October of 1989. After the development for "Halloween 6" stalled multiple times due to legal issues,...

Hollywood has always been enamored of franchises. Universal became synonymous with horror movies in the 1930s with their Classic Monsters run, while MGM mined Mickey Rooney's Andy Hardy character for 16 films. And then there's the "Blondie" series based on Chic Young's comic strip, which Columbia Pictures wrung bone dry for a staggering 28 installments.
For the most part, these films were produced quickly and cheaply for a quick score at the box office. It wasn't until 1962, when United Artists made a killing with the first James Bond movie ("Dr. No"), that studios began to view franchises as cash cows. With the subsequent success of the "Pink Panther" and "Planet of the Apes" movies, the industry became increasingly eager to turn its blockbusters into ongoing sagas. This filmmaking approach went into hyperdrive in 1977 with the unprecedented phenomenon of "Star Wars." From that point forward, Hollywood quickly became a franchise-driven town.

1964's "The Pink Panther" is not a complex film. There is little to suggest a full-fledged film series in its story of a jewel with the shape of a panther buried deep within. Somehow, that premise resulted in a series of films lasting decades, with eleven unique (or mostly unique) live-action entries. And the cartoon character who showed up in the title sequence, dancing to Henry Mancini's iconic theme music? There was a Saturday morning series starring him that ran in various incarnations from 1969 to 1980.
When writer Maurice Richlin pursued director Blake Edwards with an idea for a film about a jewel thief, neither man could have predicted the surprising longevity of that idea. Certainly, they couldn't have predicted that the extremely thin premise of "The Pink Panther" would result in a series of films running into the 1990s. Nor could they have predicted that the protagonist would be...

Former film executive Michael Nathanson, who previously served as head of MGM, is joining the nonprofit Rewilding America Now (Ran) as CEO and managing director. The organization is dedicated to preserving the wild horses of the U.S. and advocating for innovative environmental conservation practices. Nathanson will lead Ran’s rebranding and new initiatives.
In addition to championing horse rewilding and conservation awareness, Ran, formerly known as the Cana Foundation, promotes the inclusion of traditional knowledge through Native American culture. The organization is currently in the midst of acquiring 400,000 acres of grazing lands in the Birch Creek Valley of Idaho to rewild.
“I am honored and excited to join Rewilding America Now and lead their mission to protect and preserve America’s native landscape and wild horses,” said Nathanson. “This is one of those rare opportunities where we can apply our trade to something with a much higher calling, one that will make a difference.

Just before he reaches the age of 28, Timothée Chalamet will very likely achieve his third Golden Globe (and first Best Comedy/Musical Actor) nomination for “Wonka.” Following his previous bids for “Call Me By Your Name” and “Beautiful Boy”, this notice would make him the youngest man to have ever vied for all three possible film Golden Globes, smashing a record set by 35-year-old James Caan in 1976. He would also make history due to the fact that he would be the third actor recognized by this organization for playing Willy Wonka, thus putting the fictional chocolatier on a very short list of film characters that have inspired at least three Golden Globe nominations.
Directed and co-written by Paul King (“Paddington”), “Wonka” serves as an origin story for its title character, who was first introduced in the 1964 Roald Dahl book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Chalamet puts a relatively youthful spin...

Fellini, Visconti, Loren, Heston, Hepburn, Peck, Taylor, Burton … a dream dinner party of talent graced the grounds of Rome’s renowned Cinecittà film studios during the so-called “Hollywood on the Tiber” period — named after the river that runs through the Italian capital.
From the epic Quo Vadis in 1951 right through to Peter Sellers’ Pink Panther in 1963, the city was burning with big film-production energy. Hollywood studios clamored to record runaway English-language projects there, lapping up the local subsidies, lower costs and unfrozen international funds; peaking with Cleopatra in 1963 — at that time the most expensive title ever made. And now, thanks to both enduring appeal and a similar dynamic that created the post-war boom time, the U.S. film world is starting to take very frequent Roman holidays once again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be directed Jeff Fowler (Sonic the Hedgehog) from a script written by Chris Bremner. Dan Lin, Jonathan Eirich, Larry Mirisch, and Julie Andrews will serve as producers.
In keeping with The Pink Panther’’s long history, the project is said to mix the original franchise — a comedy-mystery based on Clouseau’s misadventures as a detective — and the cartoon feline that quickly became the subject of its own series. Eddie Murphy is in negotiations to star in Pink Panther, a new movie based on the beloved mascot for Owens Corning Fiberglass Insulation.
Should the deal close, Eddie Murphy would star in Pink Panther as Inspector Clouseau. Eddie Murphy is going pink.
The actor is in negotiations to star in Pink Panther, the MGM comedy based on the classic property. He would star as Inspector Clouseau.
Sonic the Hedgehog filmmaker Jeff Fowler is directing from a script by Chris Bremner, with Rideback’s Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (Aladdin) producing via their Rideback banner. Larry Mirisch and Julie Andrews are also producing.
The Pink Panther films told the adventures of bumbling Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers), with the first film involving a jewel called the Pink Panther. A cartoon panther appeared in the opening credits, and became popular in his own right, starring in cartoons over the decades.
According to sources, the new feature project would be a live-action/CG hybrid and would combine both traditions. The premise takes a buddy cop movie tone to the proceedings with the Inspector and Panther teaming up for the first time ever on the big-screen.

Werner Herzog, Klaus Kinski, Mick Jagger, Jason Robards, Thomas Mauch, My Best Fiend, and filming Fitzcarraldo; encountering Fernando Trueba (The Artist And Model) in Deauville and reconnecting with Jean Rochefort; Manoel de Oliveira and an “atmosphere of mysticality” during the making of Gebo and the Shadow with Jeanne Moreau and Michael Lonsdale, shot by Renato Berta; Blake Edwards and The Pink Panther, the problem with sequels and playing Roberto Benigni’s mother in Son Of The Pink Panther all came up in our conversation.
Claudia Squitieri from Paris on Roberto Benigni with Claudia Cardinale: “He was going “Claudia!!!!” Jumping around every time he saw my mother.

Pulling together an episode of "Saturday Night Live" is a rigorous, high-pressure exercise. Though creator-producer Lorne Michaels has the process down to a science of sorts after supervising the series for most of its 48 years on the air, the tight Monday-to-Saturday window leaves little room for refinement. Watch the fascinating 2010 documentary "Saturday Night," which examines a week in the life of the show, and you'll see some of the funniest people on the planet bomb repeatedly as they scramble to fill 67 minutes of airtime with reasonably funny material.
"SNL" has had its ups and downs over its remarkably long run, but if you ask long-time fans to name some of the series' most consistently funny performers, their list must include the Lonely Island trio of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer. Their "Digital Shorts" were the most anticipated segments of the show, and they almost always delivered. Almost. No...

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment chairman and CEO Bill Rouhana has been a leader in media, entertainment and communications for more than 35 years. But the 67-year-old executive told TheWrap’s Office With a View that he never intentionally set out to work in media.
“A friend of mine named Jonathan Krane… called me one day saying, ‘I want to raise 200 million for Blake Edwards to start a studio. Can you help me?'” Rouhana recalled.
Edwards, of course, was the director of iconic movies like “The Pink Panther” series and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
“I was practicing law in New York City and I said, ‘Sure, I can help you, but who’s Blake Edwards?’ Because I didn’t know, so you can see how media savvy I was… but Jonathan asked me to help and I did and we were successful. The next thing I knew, I had a...

Above: Italian poster for The Lovemakers. Illustration by Mauro Innocenti.Over the past ten years I’ve surveyed the illustrated likenesses of stars like Lauren Bacall, Kirk Douglas, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Bruno Ganz and Monica Vitti as in memoriams after their passing, so I am happy to say that the occasion of this look at Claudia Cardinale in movie posters is simply that, starting today, the 84-years-young Ms. Cardinale is being fêted with a three-week, 23-film retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art.Claudia Cardinale is one of my favorite actors, but while exploring her career for this piece I realized that my affection for her really comes down to one film, albeit one of my all-time favorites: Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). The fact that she is the focus of perhaps my favorite single shot in all cinema—Sergio Leone's magnificent crane shot as Cardinale’s Jill...

By the time Peter Sellers played Chance the gardener in Hal Ashby's satirical "Being There" in 1979, he had already made an incredible name for himself. Between being the face of the "Pink Panther" franchise, starring in "Dr. Strangelove," and even stepping into the shoes of James Bond -- though admittedly in the 1967 parody movie "Casino Royale," not in any of the mainline entries -- there was no doubt that Sellers could take on just about any role.
Still, with "Being There," the actor was faced with a challenge. As Sellers told Don Lane in 1980, Chance was "the most difficult role [he had] ever played," largely due to the fact that the character was hard to bring to life convincingly. A careful balancing act was required. Within the film, a series of misunderstandings caused Chance — a live-in gardener who had never left the property on which he worked — to captivate politicians with his agricultural knowledge,...

Of the many TV-to-movie adaptations, the diciest propositions have always been the films based on series that were tailored to the personality of their stars. Dan Aykroyd made "Dragnet" work (until its lame action finale) because he was doing a dead-on, deadpan parody of Jack Webb's Sergeant Joe Friday, whereas the great Jim Varney struggled as Jed Clampett in 1993's "The Beverly Hillbillies" because, when it came to playing TV rednecks, he was too defined by his Ernest P. Worrell persona to approximate Buddy Ebsen's interpretation and/or add his own flourishes.
It gets dicier when you're adapting a show named after the actual star. Even if creator James L. Brooks went nutzoid and decided to revive "The Mary Tyler Moore" show starring Sydney Sweeney, there would be an audience of exactly zero for it. Fans of the show would be aghast at the notion of anyone trying...
