Maybe Bowen Yang was onto something when he compared Moo Deng to pop superstar Chappell Roan in a Saturday Night Live sketch earlier this fall. The viral baby pygmy hippo now has an official song titled “Moodeng Moodeng.” Yes, you read that right.
It’s clear Moo Deng is out for world-pop domination with this one. It’s only a 50-second song, but the bouncy track is available in four different languages, including Thai, English, Chinese, and Japanese — not that there are many lyrics to translate. The majority of the...

Jerry Lewis was the comedic legend who starred in dozens of films, remaining active until his death at 91 in 2017. But how many of those titles, many of which he also wrote and directed, remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest movies, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1926, Lewis initially gained attention as one half of the team Martin and Lewis, opposite future Rat Packer Dean Martin. The combination of Martin as the lady-killing straight man and Lewis as the spastic goofball started as a night club act and a radio program. They appeared in 17 films together before their breakup in 1956.
He went on to star in, direct, and write a series of slapstick comedies laced with hints of sentimentality. In titles such as “The Bellboy” (1960), “The Ladies Man” (1961), “The Nutty Professor” (1963), and “The Patsy” (1964), Lewis played a lovable, rubber-faced dork who won our hearts while grating on our nerves.

Chicago – When the envelope was opened, containing the name of the Best Supporting Actress Oscar at the 95th Academy Awards earlier this month, it was veteran actor Jamie Lee Curtis who won the honor. She brought down the house with her memorable “we just won an Oscar” speech.
She tearfully finished with “ … and my mother [Janet Leigh] and my father [Tony Curtis], who were both nominated in different categories, I just won an Oscar.”
Photographer Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago.com has captured both Jamie Lee Curtis and Tony Curtis in his lens, with the Exclusive Portrait of Jamie Lee from 2004 published for the first time. Tony Curtis was photographed during his last trip to Chicago in 2009. He passed away in 2010.

Mary McCormack is returning to the small screen.
Starz today announced the beloved actress has been cast in the role of Willie in the series Heels.
McCormack’s character is the business partner of Jack Spade (played by Stephen Amell in the series) and logistical brains behind the local wrestling organization who came up in the glory days as Wild Bill’s (Chris Bauer) valet, but grew tired of babysitting and left him just as his career took off.
His return to the local circuit complicates her life, as does the reflection of her younger self that she sees in Crystal (Kelli Berglund).
McCormack is widely known for her four seasons as a regular cast member of The West Wing, as the lead of the critically acclaimed In Plain Sight and for her role opposite Howard Stern in Private Parts.

Mark Rylance is taking a mulligan on his next project, signing on to play Maurice Flitcroft in a new film called “The Fantastic Flitcrofts” about the man who qualified for the British Open Golf Championship in 1976 and subsequently shot the worst round in Open history.
Craig Roberts will direct the heart-warming true story about the dreamer and unrelenting optimist Flitcroft who became a folk hero after his disastrous performance. Simon Farnaby (“Paddington 2”) is writing the screenplay for “The Fantastic Flitcrofts” based on his book “The Phantom Of the Open” Farnaby co-wrote with Scott Murray.
If you want to know just how bad Flitcroft was, he didn’t have a handicap and instead merely posed as a professional. And when he managed to qualify, he shot a round of 121, or 49 over par. Other pros even demanded a refund of their entry fees for having to play alongside him, and he...

On August 20, 2017, Jerry Lewis took a pratfall off this mortal coil, presumably knocking an unwitting dowager on her keister and sending a surprised cop into an open manhole on his way out. The durable enfant terrible was all of 91 years when he finally left the building though he had been making spirited public appearances as recently as January of this year.
For the inquisitive Jerry fan, Shawn Levy’s 1997 King of Comedy: The Life and Art of Jerry Lewis, remains the first and last stop for the straight scoop on America’s premiere nudnik. Levy, who endured the full fury of the comedian’s legendary wrath to get his story, is as admiring of his subject’s accomplishments as he was repelled by his whiplash mood swings. The hard knock apprenticeship in the Catskills, the Freudian-fueled soap opera of his partnership with Dean Martin, the boastful sex-capades, they’re all there and then some.

I annoyed Jerry Lewis once by asking him about The Day the Clown Cried, a movie he starred in and directed in 1972, and then refused to release. "It's awful," said Lewis of the Holocaust drama in which he starred as a circus clown who entertains Jewish children as he leads them to their deaths in Nazi gas chambers. Why not show it and let the world decide? "I'm ashamed of it," Lewis told me flatly. When I pressed him, he flashed a look that could be subtitled "End of Discussion.

Billing can be important to an actor's career. Arguably, it's more important to their ego. Most of all, though, it's cross-eyed dead crucial to their agent. The order in which actor's names appear on a poster might be contested as if it's a matter of life or death. It's no exaggeration to say that people have been sent to the electric chair with less wrangling or dispute than a handful of movie star names have been splashed onto a poster.

Burt Lancaster is the Birdman of Alcatraz.
The 1962 prison drama Birdman of Alcatraz stars Burt Lancaster (Twilight’s Last Gleaming) and was directed by John Frankenheimer (Seconds, The Train).
The classic film is a largely fictionalized version of the life of Robert Stroud, a surly federal prison inmate convicted of murder who is held in permanent isolation. Stroud adopts an orphaned baby sparrow as a pet…and then another…and then many, many others. He ultimately redeems himself by becoming a renowned bird expert who others refer to as the “Birdman of Alcatraz.”
Interestingly, despite the film’s title, much of the action is set at Leavenworth where Stroud was jailed with his birds.
Adapted by Guy Trosper from the 1955 book by Thomas Gaddis, the film also stars Telly Savalas (The Slender Thread) and Thelma Ritter (Boeing Boeing). Both were nominated...

Lewis plays Norman Phiffier, a professional dog walker who’s in love with the beautiful Barbara Tuttle (Jill St. John, Diamonds are Forever), an elevator operator in her parents’ Macys-like department store, Tuttles.
Disapproving of the couple and determined to break them up, Barbara’s conniving mother Phoebe (Agnes Moorehead, Citizen Kane) hires Norman to work in the store, where he is given a series of seemingly impossible jobs. But even as he takes on the difficulties of the sports department, ladies shoes section and shipping floor, Norman gets the jobs done — with slapstick to spare!
Price: DVD $24.95, Blu-ray $29.95

Christiane Schmidtmer has a layover with Jerry Lewis (l.) and Tony Curtis in Boeing Boeing.
The 1965 bedroom farce film Boeing Boeing, starring Jerry Lewis (The Nutty Professor) and Tony Curtis (Insignificance), is actually based on the 1960 French play of the same name by Marc Camoletti. (The play was revived in London’s West End and on Broadway a few years back to much success.)
The comedy movie follows the lives of two American journalists in Paris, Bernard Lawrence (Curtis) and his friend Robert Reed (Lewis). Bernard, the ultimate bachelor, is juggling romances with three stewardesses who just happen to have different schedules and nationalities. Robert, meanwhile, is scheming to take over for his buddy after Bernard’s job relocates him to another country. Lots of zany situations, close calls and bedroom door-slamming inevitably follows.

For Mark Rylance, it's Rooster in Jerusalem. For Alison Steadman, it's Bev in Abigail's Party … leading actors on the parts they will never escape
Mark Rylance
Plays Johnny "Rooster" Byron in Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth, which opened at the Royal Court in 2009 and travelled to Broadway. It has just returned to London, where it is showing at the Apollo theatre in the West End.
Jerusalem first came to me in 2003, when I was too busy running the Globe. Back then it was called St George's Day. The pages were written with an old typewriter and it was very raw, so different to anything else. Sometimes, instead of characters' names, there was just pages of dialogue. It reminded me of how much as a kid I had resonated with adults outside of society, how much I liked their language and stories.
I got busy with other projects and they saw other actors.

While Patrick Stewart was knighted by the Queen last year, he has yet to be dubbed an Emmy winner despite four nominations. However, that could change this year as he is a strong contender for recreating his Tony-nominated performance in a TV version of "Macbeth." This new interpretation from director Rupert Goold sees the Shakespearean tragedy staged in a Soviet-like subterranean fortress during the Cold War. Patrick tells Gold Derby that without pubcasters PBS and the BBC, “the production simply would have existed only in the memories of those who saw it on the stage.” It originated at the Chichester Festival in 2007 and then transferred to the West End before sell-out engagements at both the Brooklyn Academy of Music and on Broadway in 2008. "MacBeth" reaped six Tony nominations, including that bid by Stewart (he lost to Mark Rylance in "Boeing Boeing"). "Macbeth" aired as part of the 'Great Performances' se.

A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.
While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.
And so, without further ado, we present, in alphabetical order, the list (39!) of this year's hottest guys in theater!

Actor whose good looks and charm took him to the heights of Hollywood with films such as Some Like It Hot and The Defiant Ones
Born into a family of Hungarian Jews who had emigrated to the Us, Bernard Schwartz – the boy who became the actor Tony Curtis – could scarcely have dreamed of the wealth, fame and rollercoaster life that awaited him. Curtis, who has died aged 85, starred in several of the best films of the 1950s, including Sweet Smell of Success (1957), The Defiant Ones (1958) and Some Like It Hot (1959). He enjoyed a long career thanks to his toughness and resilience (despite insecurities that demanded years of therapy).
He grew up in the Bronx, New York, the eldest of three sons. As a child, he was ill-treated by his mother, Helen, and spent time in an orphanage. One of his brothers, Robert, was a schizophrenic and the other, Julius, was...

Gershon: 'Agents' Lawsuit Is Without Merit'
Gina Gershon has responded to a lawsuit from her former talent agents, branding allegations she failed to pay them commission "completely without merit".
Bosses at Fortitude talent agency have accused Gershon of refusing to pay them the 10 per cent commission they're due for helping her book a job in the Broadway play Boeing Boeing.
The agents, who are suing for compensation, claim the actress made "several hundred thousand dollars" from the 2008 New York stage show but "chooses to forget about those people who help her in her career".
But the Showgirls star has refuted the claims.
A statement released to RadarOnline.com reads: "This lawsuit is completely without merit. Gina Gershon paid full commission to her representatives, talent agency Innovative Artists and management company Untitled Entertainment, who helped her book the Broadway play, Boeing Boeing."...

Neal Hefti, composer of the memorable Batman television theme music, passed away on October 11. He was 85 and had been in poor health for some time his son Paul reported.
In a career spanning many decades, the big band trumpeter was finally known for the theme in addition to other memorable film and television scores including The Odd Couple.
Hefti’s catchy “Batman Theme” was released as a single and went as high as #35 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A version by the Marketts did better, cracking the Top 20 at #17. The theme song has been covered throughout the years by the Who, the Kinks, and virtually every surf-band on Earth.
A 1966 episode of the television series Hullabaloo, hosted by George Hamilton, featured two dozen girls dressed in faux-Batman costumes dancing to the LP version of the theme song.
His career began with writing musical charts for Nat Towles before moving...
