It was her first U.S.A. movie. Contrary to the Americans, who are said to love foreign accents, in France, any French person who speaks a foreign language with any hint of a French accent is mocked relentlessly by other French people, and this, since the age of school children. It's a learned behavior that still persists to this day, and is passed from generation to generation, never mind that an adult cannot speak a foreign language without their native accent. Thus, it is most likely that Brigitte, whose nickname in French, BB sounds like "baby" in French, was trying to avoid ridicule by the French public, for her French accent. She went on to make this movie, and it is clear that she worked hard to minimize her French accent. The result is she speaks beautiful English, with just a lilt of a French accent.
