The recent passing of Lesley Gore was not noted on We Are Movie Geeks, I’d like to correct that and as a tribute to her review one of the best concerts ever captured on film (actually on video but I’ll get to that soon.)
Born Lesley Sue Goldstein in New York City on May 2nd 1946 Lesley Gore passed on February 16, this year. She never tried her hand at acting (to my knowledge) yet she appeared in several films and many television shows singing one of or more of her considerable string of hits in a very strong voice, for such a little lady.
It’s My Party is probably her most famous and well remembered song but Judy’s Turn To Cry, Maybe I Know, Sunshine Lollipops, You Don’t Own Me and several other songs charted during her long career. She never resented being consigned to the...

Femme fatale Audrey Totter: Film noir actress and MGM leading lady dead at 95 (photo: Audrey Totter ca. 1947) Audrey Totter, film noir femme fatale and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer contract player best remembered for the mystery crime drama Lady in the Lake and, at Rko, the hard-hitting boxing drama The Set-Up, died after suffering a stroke and congestive heart failure on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles County. Reportedly a resident at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills, Audrey Totter would have turned 96 on Dec. 20. Born in Joliet, Illinois, Audrey Totter began her show business career on radio. She landed an MGM contract in the mid-’40s, playing bit roles in several of the studio’s productions, e.g., the Clark Gable-Greer Garson pairing Adventure (1945), the Hedy Lamarr-Robert Walker-June Allyson threesome Her Highness and the Bellboy (1945), and, as an adventurous hitchhiker riding with John Garfield,...

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards are being held in the early hours of tomorrow morning, and so in the run-up to the ceremony, we thought we’d give you a run-down of this year’s nominees.
For those able to watch the show (which is also being shown on Five USA tomorrow night at 10), you can look forward to your host for the evening being Jane Lynch, best known for her role as Sue Sylvester in Glee.
And for those unacquainted with the awards, you can pretty much think of them as the television equivalent to the Oscars, with the Primetime Emmy Awards recognising the best talent in primetime television.
A few of the awards were already presented to the winners at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend, so I’ll do a summary of those categories first, followed by the nominees for tonight’s awards ceremony. There are...

Ginger Rogers is Turner Classic Movies‘ Star of the Month of March. Most of the films — perhaps all of them — have been shown on TCM before. So, don’t expect hard-to-find titles such as The Confession, Forever Female, The Groom Wore Spurs, Young Man of Manhattan, Sitting Pretty (1933), A Shriek in the Night, or Harlow (the Carol Lynley version). TCM’s Ginger Rogers salute begins tonight at 5 p.m. Pacific Time with a screening of The Gay Divorcee (above), one of Rogers’ best pairings with Fred Astaire, partly thanks to a top-notch supporting cast that includes Alice Brady, Eric Blore, and Erik Rhodes. That will be followed by the other nine Rogers-Astaire (I know it’s usually the other way around) [...]...
