The recent review of the Early Access Fps, Selaco, by Yahtzee Croshaw on his popular web series Fully Ramblomatic has ignited some controversy. While Croshaw, known for his wit and critical eye, offered a mixed bag of observations, it appears a Selaco developer hasn’t taken the feedback well.
One of the main developers of the game took to Twitter to tear down his review. He states that the review is poorly researched, and misses the point of the game.
Yahtzee Croshaw’s Latest Review Has Ruffled Some Feathers
The game was released on 31st May of this year.
Croshaw’s review of the game highlighted several aspects of the game. He praised the game’s fast-paced action and the potential of its world-building through environmental storytelling. However, he also criticized the repetitive enemy design, lack of a clear narrative, and some technical issues.

French crime films of the 1950s and ’60s often centered on professional criminals who followed codes of honor that put them on a more-or-less level moral playing field with the detectives tracking them down. Whether it was Jean Gabin’s aging gangster Max in Jacques Becker’s Touchez Pas au Grisbi or Alain Delon’s steely eyed assassin Jef in Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le Samouraï, these men had a sophistication and moral grounding that minimized the violence and chaos they caused. They were dangerous, even deadly, but only when they needed to be and in a way the cops could wrap their heads’ around.

Born 1917, as Jean-Pierre Grumbach, son of Alsatian Jews, Jean-Pierre adopted the name Melville as his nom de guerre in 1940 when France fell to the German Nazis and he joined the French Resistance. He kept it as his stage name when he returned to France and began making films.

Above: French poster for Le silence de la mer (Jean-Pierre Melville, France, 1949). Design by Raymond Gid.Many great filmmakers never got the posters their films deserved. Some of my favorite filmmakers—I'm thinking Yasujiro Ozu, Jacques Rivette, Mike Leigh, and Jean-Marie Straub, to name just a few—for one reason or another, whether it be the vagaries of distribution, the particulars of time and the place, or just the fact that what is so extraordinary about their filmmaking doesn’t translate to still images, have very few posters worthy of their reputation. Jean-Pierre Melville is not one of those. Undoubtedly, the archetype of Melville’s cinema—the trench-coat and fedora sporting, pistol touting tough guy—lends himself beautifully to graphic invention. But Melville made other kinds of films too, and somehow the posters for his entire 13-film oeuvre are an embarrassment of riches. It didn’t hurt that the great French poster artist,...

Jean-Pierre Melville in his own film, Two Men in Manhattan“A man isn't tiny or giant enough to defeat anything”—Yukio MishimaA voracious cinephile in his early youth, Jean-Pierre Grumbach's daily intake of films was interrupted by the Second World War when he enlisted in the Ffl (Forces Français Libres) and adopted the nom de guerre by which he's still known to these days: Jean-Pierre Melville. A tribute to his literary hero, Hermann Melville, and his novel Pierre: or the Ambiguities, the director would have his name officially changed after the war. The latter was to shape and inform many of his films and arguably all of his world-view, characterized by a sort of ethical cynicism where anti-fascism is understood as a moral duty rather than an act of heroic courage. Profoundly anti-rhetoric and filled with a terse dignity, his films about the Resistance, Army of Shadows (1969) above all,...

Director Jose Giovanni was best known as a screenwriter for a number of important French auteurs throughout the 1960’s, having written items like Jacques Becker’s Le Trou (1960), Claude Sautet’s Classe Tous Risques (1960) and the novel upon which Melville’s Le Deuxieme Souffle (1966) was based. Many of his own directorial efforts have faded into obscurity, but his 1973 title Two Men in Town, a political drama documenting the social ills associated with the death penalty, has recently received resurrected interest thanks to Rachid Bouchareb’s 2014 remake, retooled for the American Southwest and predicated on issues of immigration. Starring Alain Delon and Jean Gabin in their last of three on-screen collaborations, it’s an interesting item, though Giovani’s overly protracted first half doesn’t sit well with the finale’s obvious sermonizing.

The show has had its ups and downs so far, but with its seventh episode Fargo is suddenly a series worth celebrating as a standalone entity. With “Who Shaves the Barber?” I finally forgot about all the Coen brothers blood that was pumping life into the heart of the show from the beginning. This was the best episode since the pilot, and in some ways it was even better because it didn’t rest on all that pastiche and influence. It’s a shame that we only have three more installments to go, as now I could see it actually continuing beyond its predetermined ten parts. That’s a big change of my mind from a few episodes ago when I wondered how series writer Noah Hawley was going to stretch out the show’s two main storylines for the whole series. But now we have the introduction of comedic duo Key & Peele — sorry, that...

She’s 91 years young and still going strong, and Betty White is featured in a new flying safety campaign for Air New Zealand.
The “Hot in Cleveland” actress shows up at the Second Wind Retirement Village and invites her geriatric friends (including “Love Boat” star Gavin MacLeod) to help in demonstrating the airline’s safety policies.
Betty explains, “Listen up, people. This is my cousin’s grandson and his buddy from Air New Zealand. They were telling me about their crazy safety videos. Well I said, if you want to know about survival talk to us, because you’re going to want some advice from folks who have been there and done that. So this is safety, old school style.”
In addition, Air New Zealand has launched a contest in which viewers can share a story about ‘living life to the fullest’ in order to win a trip to Palm Springs,...

Jean-Pierre Melville (October 20, 1917 – August 2, 1973), was a French film director often looked upon as the ‘king crime-noir films’. His body of work and mise-en-scene style heavily influenced Scorsese, John Woo and Tarantino to name but a few. Under-stated and minimalist, he managed the difficult process of making an artistic film also commercially viable. Melville would control everything from set design, writing the script, and running the camera, mixing obsessive gangster pastiches with restrained, precise and sensitive symbolism.
Described as the ‘Poet of the underworld’ and the ‘garlic gangster’, he was considered to be the “father of the nouvelle vague”, a major influence on the French New Wave movement. But it was the American gangster films of the ’30s and ’40s starring James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart that really caught his imagination. Melville recreated the genre for a new wave audience using weapons, trench coats and fedora hats, to shape a characteristic look in his movies.

Chicago – One of The Criterion Collection’s most successful and beloved titles has long been Henri-Georges Clouzot’s “Diabolique,” a 1955 classic that has inspired countless films, among them Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece “Psycho.” The company has given the film the upgrade to HD while also re-releasing it with new packaging and special features on standard DVD as well. We got our hands on the latter and can say that this once-discontinued entry in the Criterion Collection has made a triumphant return.
DVD Rating: 5.0/5.0
What more is there to say about “Diabolique”? It’s a classic thriller, one of the best of its kind that’s ever been made. With spectacular twists and turns, this is arguably Clouzot’s masterpiece, a film that rewards and shocks every single time you see it. (My love for “The Wages of Fear,” another great Criterion Collection film, is the only thing that cautions me...

Benderspink (Kyle Xy) has inked a new first-look deal with CBS TV Studios. Under the pact, the company has set up two multi-camera comedy projects at CBS: Second Wind and an untitled half-hour from writer Jonathan Goldstein (The New Adventures of Old Christine). Second Wind, written by Dean Craig (Death at a Funeral) and Sam Liefer, is a buddy comedy about two divorced male friends who have different perspectives on single life. The untitled Jonathan Goldstein sitcom centers on an idealistic newlywed who must go to work for his business tycoon father-in-law. Both have received script commitments. Additionally, Benderspink has an adaptation of Hannah Seligson's book A Little Bit Married set up at the studio with writer Theresa Mulligan (How I Met Your Mother). Before signing with CBS Studios in 2008, UTA-repped Benderspink, whose TV department is run by former UTA agent-turned-executive Alex Kerr, had a first-look deal with Fox21. On the feature side,...

This month's Game Bois and Joysticks brings you news from the Gaygamer.net panel at the Pax East video game convention where gay gamers talked about their personal experiences and spoke openly about equality in the games industry. Additionally, I review the romance-free expansion pack to last year’s hit Dragon Age: Origins and the gory action/adventure, God of War 3, plus much more!
The Pax East video game convention took place last March in Boston and featured the second Gaygamer panel in its history. Said Gaygamer.net's founder Flynn DeMarco, “The presence of sexuality in games has grown over the course of the past four years and this is because we have been vocal about what we want as gay gamers.”
Appearing on the panel with DeMarco were a group of game industry insiders including David Edison, an editor at Gaygamer.net, Helen McWilliams, a producer at Harmonix, Chris Shroyer,...

Three down, one to go. We've already gone through the Hunter, the Siren and the Soldier. Last of the "Borderlands" classes we're exploring this week is the Berserker. Convenient, since he was the last class added in the development process! Lets take a look at how this big fella handles.
Berserker Basics
If you're looking to dole out crap loads of damage, the Berserker is perfect for you. His skills are focused around explosive weapons and melee attacks. While he's not extremely ideal for standard guns, he's a beast with a rocket launcher. His active skill is also the most entertaining of the four classes, as he basically runs around screaming while punching people in the face for massive damage. Not much of a thinker, but of all the classes he's going be the hardest to take down.
