Sometimes, in life, certain people can’t help but be working late because they’re singers. And sometimes, on very rare occasions, their give a fucks go on vacation, and they have no choice but to Mountain Dew it for you. All three of these things happened to Wallows when they stopped by SiriusXM’s Alt Nation to perform an acoustic version of Sabrina Carpenter’s caffeinated pop hit “Espresso.”
But Wallows’ take on “Espresso” wasn’t a straightforward cover. Toward the end of the song, the band — made up of Dylan Minnette,...

One of the 12 jurors who heard Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 sexual assault trial and voted for his conviction, which was overturned on Thursday by New York’s Court of Appeals, has written an op-ed for U.S. News and World Report in which she calls the reversal a gut-punch that should not have happened, as the jury’s decision was not influenced by the so-called Molineux witnesses whose testimony in 2020, in part, led to the decision to overturn the conviction.
“The decision is a punch in the gut to Weinstein’s victims — and to all rape victims, where so often the only evidence is a woman’s word,” Amanda Brainerd, who was juror 11, wrote in her piece. She went on to add, “Our justice system failed us today.”

(Welcome to Did They Get It Right?, a series where we take a look at an Oscars category from yesteryear and examine whether the Academy's winner stands the test of time.)
For as silly as they might be at their core, winning an Academy Award can do a lot for a person. It can bolster someone's career, signal how the industry has changed in recent years, or cement a legacy. In 2007, the Academy decided to do some cementing when Helen Mirren took home the award for Best Actress for portraying Queen Elizabeth II in Stephen Frears' "The Queen."
We can all agree that Helen Mirren is one of the finest actors of the last 60 years. Emerging from the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1960s, Mirren rose to prominence with a string of bold, transgressive films, like "Age of Consent," "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover," and "Caligula.

There's something about Kate!
Kate Warner has quite the checkered past that she worked really hard to keep under wraps from pretty much everyone around her. Even though she was secretive, dishonest, and a complete and utter mystery, everyone loved her.
On Secrets and Lies Season 2 Episode 5 we uncovered more about Kate's background, including being introduced to her mother and also the father of the child she gave up for adoption.
Is it just me or does this season feel unnecessarily convoluted? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Michael Ealy and the season certainly has some perks, especially compared to the previous season, but there's just a lot going on.
There are so many plot points crammed into an episode that it's difficult to keep up with all of them, let alone make sense of what's supposed to actually be relevant.

Dame Helen Mirren as always is one of the greatest women on the planet. Not just an award-winning actress, Mirren is also famous for a dry sense of humor, her candour, and a radiant vivaciousness.
Mirren recently sat down with another actor of a similar disposition - Alan Cumming - for a CBS interview in which she says that, at 70, she's now done with on screen nudity.
In fact the entire four-minute interview revolves around her breasts, or her "pleasure pillows" as she calls them, but in terms of retiring the girls from the spotlight she says:
"That's the good thing about getting older; you don't have to do that sort of thing anymore. My pleasure pillows are purely for my husband."
Mirren has taken off her clothes on screen numerous times throughout her career starting with 1969's "Age of Consent" all the way through to 2003's "Calendar Girls" and...

Now this is the last thing I expected to write about tonight, but Variety is reporting a lawsuit was filed Wednesday in a Hawaii federal court alleging X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer "forcibly sodomized" the plaintiff, Michael Egan, at the age of 17. Egan's name was published in a press release issued by his lawyer, alleging "Singer provided him with drugs and alcohol and flew him to Hawaii on more than one occasion in 1999." Age of consent in Hawaii is 16, but this isn't exactly a case of underage abuse. Variety reports his attorney confirmed Egan is seeking an unspecified amount in damages in the civil suit. The site also says registered sex offender, and former chairman of Digital Entertainment Network, Marc Collins-Rector, is also named in the lawsuit, accused of initiating the sexual abuse of Egan and arranging for Singer to assault Egan at a house in Encino,...

A schoolteacher's stopover in an outback town turns into an alcoholic bender in this infamous movie
Once in a while, a long-lost movie will resurface and completely realign one's understanding of an entire national cinema. Such a film is Canadian Ted Kotcheff's 1971 Australian outback-set Wake In Fright, a box-office flop, mauled by a critical establishment in thrall to the cultural cringe, then almost entirely forgotten and thought lost for 40 years. And no wonder: Wake In Fright is among the most excoriating demolitions of the cult of masculinity ever put on film – its Australian variant in particular – and it must have been troubling indeed to gaze into that mirror.

As Helen Mirren is due to be presented with BAFTA’s highest honour, the Fellowship, on February 16th at the BAFTA Awards Ceremony, it is the perfect time to remind ourselves of and celebrate the Dame’s pure awesomeness. Cambridge, Mass. (AP) - Helen Mirren has been honored as woman of the year by Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Theatricals, twerking as part of the traditional spoof roast on Thursday.
Mirren at first tried to sign the word "twerk," then let slip a curse word and danced. She said she's tried to twerk privately in her bedroom and having to do it in public was humiliating.
She also joked that being honored by Prince Charles as Dame of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace didn't come anywhere close to getting the ceremonial Hasting Pudding pot at Harvard. The festivities also included a parade.
Mirren, 68, won the 2007 best actress Oscar for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in "The Queen" and has been nominated on three other occasions. She also appeared in "Age of Consent, "Gosford Park" and "The Madness of King George."

A collection of original music, the game's score, and tracks featured in the game's radio stations make up the massive "Grand Theft Auto V" music collection, out now on iTunes.
Oh, I get it--69 tracks. Clever, Rockstar.
The three volumes are available now as either separate purchases at $9.99 each or as a single download for $24.99 via iTunes. The collection includes original music from artists like Twin Shadow and Neon Indian on "Vol. 1: Original Music," to the incidental music and score of "Vol. 2: The Score," and remixed and licensed songs on "Vol. 3: The Soundtrack."
The release of the soundtrack continues Rockstar's media domination following the billion dollar launch of "GTA V" last week for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It's also not the first time they've had a major launch for one of the game's soundtracks: fans of "Vice City" may recall the lavish soundtrack for that game which...

Harold Hopkins, who appeared in several important Australian movies including Gallipoli (right), The Year My Voice Broke, Don's Party, and The Club, died yesterday, Dec. 10, at Neringah Private Hospital in Wahroonga, north Sydney. According to reports, his death was caused by the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma.
Hopkins, who was 67, is supposed to have been exposed to the cancer right after finishing high school, while working as an apprentice carpenter sheeting asbestos in Queensland in the early 1960s.
Following on the footsteps of his twin brother John, Harold Hopkins (born on March 6, 1944, in Toowoomba, Queensland) graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1967. He then performed onstage and began his feature-film career in 1969, landing a supporting part in Michael Powell's Age of Consent, starring James Mason and Helen Mirren.

The Oscar-winning actress discusses her Russian roots, her Oscar-winning role as the Queen, why she never had children and her latest brace of movies
'I learned quite early on in life," Helen Mirren is telling me over tea at the Dorchester hotel, "that we are all two people. And one of those people none of us will ever know. You, Tim, for example, will never know how I perceive you. What my ideas are about the way you are sitting and your hair or your cheeks or whatever. You will never know."
It's true. And, I have to confess, sitting there, suddenly aware of my hair – of my cheeks? – I'm quite happy to keep it that way. Mirren is frank and warm as an interviewee but you do have the sense, all the time you are posing your artless little list of questions, that she effortlessly sees right through you.

On July 26, 1945, Helen Lydia Mironoff was born in a London hospital to parents Vasiliy and Kathleen Mironoff (or Mironov depending on the spelling). During the 1950s, Vasily changed the family last name to "Mirren," and for his young daughter, the rest is history. From her breakout role in Michael Powell's Age of Consent to her Oscar-winning turn as Queen Elizabeth in The Queen, Mirren has been one of Hollywood's greatest -- and seemingly ageless -- actresses for five decades. As Liz Lemon once said in reaction to one of Mirren's famous bikini pics, "Is she a wizard?"...

In early 2007, the 60-something Helen Mirren won her first Oscar for her regal portrayal of 'The Queen.' About a year later, she made headlines again by appearing on the beach in a bikini, and looking really, amazingly good. Usually highly acclaimed and respected grand old dames of the British theater, and veterans of many costume movies, aren't supposed to be sexy. But Mirren is and always has been.
'The Queen' will always be the first and foremost item in her bio, but digging a little deeper, we can find a much more interesting, diverse, tough, and sexy career. Some fans know her as Jane Tennison, the troubled but whip-smart police detective on several 'Prime Suspect' BBC miniseries, made between 1991 and 2006. She was unforgettable wearing boots and a dress and shooting bad guys in last year's 'Red,' arguably the biggest financial success of her career.

Be Warned That There Is Both Male And Female Nudity Depicted In This List
Here we're neither talking about the extended nudity in Russ Meyer's 'nudie cuties', nor the disrobing we're so used to seeing in bedroom or bathroom scenes in movies. These guys and gals may dance, or they may not - but they are definitely naked; and in situations you wouldn't expect...

We all do it. But last night, Jimmy Kimmel finally said it. When Dame Helen Mirren visited one of television's seventeen late-night talk shows last night, she wanted to discuss The Tempest, which was filmed in Hawaii. But, much to Kimmel's delight, she instead wound up reminiscing about that one time she was naked in Hawaii a bajillion years ago. "And I'm swimming naked in the water," she tells the host, referring to the nude scenes she did in Age of Consent, when she was twenty-two. But Kimmel needed no reminder. "To be honest, I watched that online yesterday," the gentleman told her. "Only the nude parts." Okay! Watch Mirren awkwardly cover her legs in the clip [...]...

Two CGI animated movies, neither of much distinction and little helped by uninteresting 3D. Except for some fearsome bats, the characters in Legend of the Guardians are owls, all speaking with Australian accents except for Helen Mirren, though she did have her first significant movie role down under in Michael Powell's Age of Consent. Based on what are claimed as a series of "beloved books by Kathryn Lasky", it's a dull, morally uplifting tale of a battle to the death between two types of owl, the Pure Ones, who are proto-fascist aggressors, and the Guardians, who defend democracy and protect the weak. Given that the warriors don metal helmets and razor sharp spurs, much of it looks like cock-fighting.

Helen Mirren is so hardworking that it is tempting to take her for granted. But she is always looking for something different
Have you seen the wild look in Helen Mirren's eyes? It's as if she knows the world has gone mad, so she can do anything. The pained realism and long-suffering compromises that dogged Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect are put aside. She has been Queen Elizabeth, both I and II, and if anyone cared to propose an Elizabeth of Transylvania from the Dark Ages then Mirren could do it. Or if you prefer a bloodthirsty and lascivious pope, she is your actor. At 65, she is still one of the sexiest women on screen. It's not what she does, but what she knows.
Mirren has never been anything less than accomplished and bold, but Stephen Frears' The Queen was a confirming potion for her, a laying on of hands.

Dame Helen Mirren has heaped praise on controversial pop stars Lady GaGa and Miley Cyrus - insisting she is "thrilled" young girls are embracing their sexuality. Mirren admits she struggled to use her own sexuality as leverage early on in her career, until her scandalous role in films like 1969's "Age of Consent" - in which she stripped as the teenage muse of an older painter.
And she's happy to have paved the way for contemporary actresses and music artists. She tells New York Magazine, "I much prefer overt sexuality to sleazy, vulgar prurience... I was kind of a trailblazer because I demanded to do it my own way. I'd say, 'I'm not having it put on me by someone else...' "
"I'm thrilled young girls are claiming their sexuality for themselves. I love bold women: Madonna and Scarlett Johansson - sexy and gorgeous, but not only that. And Miley Cyrus - fantastic!

To celebrate its 20th Anniversary, it appears as though the Tiff Cinematheque is set to pull out all the stops.
According to Criterion, the Tiff, formerly known as the Cinematheque Ontario, will be bringing out a rather superb and cartoonishly awesome summer schedule, that will include films ranging from Kurosawa pieces, to films from Pier Paolo Pasolini. Other films include a month long series dedicated to James Mason, Eric Rohmer’s Six Moral Tales, a tribute to Robin Wood, and most interesting, a retrospective on the works of one Catherine Breillat.
Personally, while the Kurosawa, Pasolini, and Rohmer collections sound amazing, the Breillat series is ultimately the collective that I am most interested in. Ranging from films like the brilliant Fat Girl, to the superb and underrated Anatomy of Hell, these are some of the most interesting and under seen pieces of cinema of recent memory, and are more than...

Michael Powell's 1946 afterlife melodrama A Matter Of Life And Death has been firmly established in the pantheon of great British films, and boasts a sterling reputation as a puckish, astonishingly stylish contemplation of U.S./UK relations over the centuries. Powell's 1969 erotic travelogue Age Of Consent, on the other hand, has been little-seen and is indifferently regarded. It's Powell's final feature film, about an Australian artist mentoring his muse, and it's knocked askew by broad comedy and awkward stabs at anti-establishment snark.
