In an interview, Claude Chabrol said Dirty Hands (1975) was bizarre: "there was a young Italian actor - Paolo Giusti - who was hallucinating mediocrity, he was really appalling (laughs) ... Romy Schneider was the only woman in the film - even the extras were men - and it was interesting to see that this girl could put up with anything. It must be said that this film is not terrible. But you see, it's still a curiosity."
Romy Schneider dubbed herself in the final English language version (besides filming the scenes with Rod Steiger in English).
The car at the center of story is a Datsun 260Z, the second in the first generation of Nissan Z series GT cars (240Z, 260Z, 280Z). Datsun is a division of Nissan and, from 1958 to 1986, all cars exported by Nissan were sold under the Datsun brand name. The Datsun 260Z was sold as the Nissan Fairlady Z in the Japanese domestic market.
