The movie's title song, "Car Wash", was a #1 chart-topping hit for Rose Royce, and was one of the biggest-selling singles of the 1970s disco music era.
Reverend Ike was a real-life preacher and inspiration for the Daddy Rich character. When Reverend Ike was unavailable for the film, they chose Richard Pryor, who filmed his role in two days.
Richard Pryor: As Daddy Rich, head evangelist of the Church of Divine Economic Spirituality. Though Pryor has been frequently top-billed in promotional materials and advertisements for this movie, his appearance in the ensemble of performances is practically a cameo appearance. Pryor has said years later in his autobiography, "Pryor Convictions and Other Life Sentences", that he felt that the public was misled into believing that he had had a bigger part in this movie. Pryor also admitted being high on cocaine during the two days which he filmed his scenes and that he didn't really understand the part of Daddy Rich's involvement in the film by saying: "On the set of 'Car Wash', I was too coked out to know any better."
