In his autobiography, "The Ragman's Son," "Spartacus" star and cinema luminary Kirk Douglas makes much of his longtime friendship with the hulking legendary actor Burt Lancaster. The two first worked together on Lisabeth Scott's 1947 noir classic "I Walk Alone," which sees Lancaster's convict battle his former bootlegging, currently two-timing business partner (Douglas).

Their second big-screen pairing was in "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," a John Sturges Western chronicling the storied 1881 Tombstone, Arizona shootout. Therein, Douglas would play the ailing gunslinger Doc Holliday to Lancaster's tenacious Wyatt Earp, two tough men whose tense alliance would blossom into diehard loyalty. Though the duo would go on to star in a handful of movies together it was on the set of the 1957 American Western where the two actors really hit it off.

"The Ragman's Son" carries the details of production, a shoot largely oscillating between the historically-relevant location of Tucson, Arizona, and Paramount Studio sets back in California.

Kirk Douglas, an icon of Hollywood's Golden Age, was as heroic as some of the characters he played.

Stage and screen actor, producer, director and writer Kirk Douglas, whose career spanned more than 60 years, died Wednesday at the age of 103, according to Variety.

“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” his son, actor Michael Douglas, said in a statement.

Kirk Douglas, one of the last living survivors of the film industry’s golden age, has died, People reports. The actor, best known for his iconic role in Spartacus, was 103 years old.

Douglas is survived by his wife Anne and his three sons: Joel, Peter and Michael Douglas. The story of how an Air France jet set to fly from Tel-Aviv, Israel to Paris, France was hijacked in 1976 and flown to Uganda has been a surprisingly fertile subject for film and television producers. This week another version of the tale opens in theaters. This work is entitled “7 Days in Entebbe” and stars Rosamund Pike and Daniel Bruhl. Will the new film, which opens March 16, bring more awards to this often told story?

Pike and Bruhl are both familiar to awards voters. Pike received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for “Gone Girl” (2014) and Bruhl competed for a Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe and other awards for “Rush” the year before. While early reviews seem somewhat mixed on the quality of this particular version, previous attempts to tell the story have resulted in high awards recognition.

A gripping thriller inspired by the true events of the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight en route from Tel Aviv to Paris, the film depicts the most daring rescue mission ever attempted.

There have been two TV movies about the rescue.

Raid On Entebbe (1976) starred Peter Finch, Charles Bronson, Yaphet Kotto and was directed by Irvin Kershner (The Empire Strikes Back). It won the Golden Globe for “Best Motion Picture Made for Television.” Victory At Entebbe was helmed by Marvin J. Chomsky (Tank) and starred Elizabeth Taylor, Linda Blair, Helen Hayes, Richard Dreyfuss and Burt Lancaster.

A "what-if" tale about the reunion of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn 50 years after their infamous adventures on the Mississippi, Lancaster played Henry Finnegan (Huck, of course) and Douglas his old friend Thomas Gray (Sawyer).
