- M. "Mack" Patrick MacKenzie: Your dad hit you.
- Jason Lochner: You wouldn't understand.
- M. "Mack" Patrick MacKenzie: When I was six years old, I was running through the house and I knocked over a lamp and it broke. And my dad beat the hell out of me. He just didn't spank me, he hit me with his fist... Gave me two black eyes, Jason. I was six years old! And I told my friends that I fell off my bike. When I was ten, I came home and he started kicking me in the stomach and I didn't know why. I never found out. But I told myself that, well, he's just blowing off steam. Jason, when I was thirteen, my dad hit me so hard, he knocked out a molar. At first, I blamed myself. It had to me. This was my dad and your dad just doesn't beat you without good reason. If I was a better kid, maybe he wouldn't get so mad. When I got older and realised that it wasn't normal to be beaten up by your old man, I felt ashamed... because I didn't want anyone to know what my dad was like and I sure as hell didn't want pity. I made up lies to strangers, friends and excuse to myself. I was hoping and praying that it would stop. That just once he'd say that he loved me and he was proud of me... And now, y'know, uh, it's hard for me to say out loud that that he abused me and that it was wrong! And he was wrong! And not to say it at all makes it even worse. Jason, you don't have to live the rest of your life denying it the way I have. All you got to do is tell me that you don't want to go in there. Tell me to take you someplace else, kid. Just tell me to take you someplace else.
- Jason Lochner: [Jason looks at Mack for a moment] Take me someplace else.
- Paige Matheson: For years, you have lied, cheated and conned people and you gotten away with it, but I'm not gonna let you get away with this.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: You're good. You really are. If I were rating on the Abby scale, Abby being ten, you'd be a six, which is very good considering your youth and ignorance.
- Paige Matheson: Well, I don't judge things on the Abby scale, and neither does Greg.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Don't count on it.
- Lilimae Clements: [looking at a hair product] Contains no lye. Well, I should hope not. Ask me no question I'll tell you no lye.
- Valene Ewing Gibson Waleska: Oh, Mama you are being silly.
- Lilimae Clements: Well, why not? That thick glossy perm has gone to my head.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: [talking about Val's attempted suicide] Olivia, something terrible has happened.
- Olivia Cunningham Dyer: What? Did you run out of eye make-up?
- Laura Avery Sumner: You are such a slut!
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Well, it takes one to know one, doesn't it, dear?
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Oh, by the way, Paige, are you still sleeping with Greg?
- Paige Matheson: Morning, noon and night. He just keeps getting better and better.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: I didn't think so. Well, have a nice day.
- [Abby leaves]
- Paige Matheson: Bitch.
- Gregory Sumner: I thought I heard someone splashing out here.
- Paige Matheson: I hope you don't mind.
- Gregory Sumner: No, suit yourself.
- Paige Matheson: I couldn't find a bathing suit.
- Gregory Sumner: I can see that.
- Paige Matheson: Well, why don't you join me?
- Gregory Sumner: No, I never swim in shark-infested waters.
- Paige Matheson: [Paige comes out of the pool naked] I couldn't find a towel either.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Give it to me!
- Olivia Cunningham Dyer: Give you what?
- [Abby pushes the cocaine on her nose and shoves it into her nostril]
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Give me your car keys.
- Olivia Cunningham Dyer: I have to have a car to go to school.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: I told you I would not allow you to use drugs, you're not going to school. Give me your house keys.
- Olivia Cunningham Dyer: What are you gonna do? Lock me out?
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: No, I'm not gonna lock you out. I'm gonna lock you in with me.
- Brian Cunningham #2: [on a different show, Abby chops down the bathroom door, to stop Olivia from snuffing cocaine] Mom!
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Go to bed, Brian.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: All right, give it to me.
- Olivia Cunningham Dyer: I don't have anything.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Give it to me!
- Olivia Cunningham Dyer: I don't have anything!
- Brian Cunningham #2: Stop it!
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Go to bed, Brian. Stay right there and don't you move. If you think hiding your drugs is gonna make any difference, Olivia, that you think I'm not gonna know.
- Olivia Cunningham Dyer: I wasn't do anything. I was just...
- [Abby finds the bag in the toilet]
- Paige Matheson: You don't know the meaning of the word trust!
- Anne W. Matheson Sumner: Sweetie, yes, I do.
- Paige Matheson: The only kind of trust you know has the word "fund" behind it.
- Valene Ewing Gibson Waleska: Now, I mean it, Abby. I just want an answer.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: Well, I'm not saying we're having an affair and I'm not saying I'm not. I am saying that I can have him any time I want him.
- Anne W. Matheson Sumner: You're only here with Mack now, because I wasn't here when he met you. Now he feels obligated.
- Karen Cooper Fairgate MacKenzie: Mack is under no obligations, Anne.
- Anne W. Matheson Sumner: The hell he isn't. Admit it. If Mack had to choose between us, he'd never choose you.
- Karen Cooper Fairgate MacKenzie: You with your little tract house, your little dead-end street in your little dead-end life with your outdoor barbecue and your "Kiss the Cook" apron. It all makes me sick.
- Karen Cooper Fairgate MacKenzie: Anne, I'm gonna get off the phone right now, I think we've said about...
- Anne W. Matheson Sumner: You wanna know the truth. I'll tell you the truth. I never intended to die, I intended to make Mack come to his senses. I did it so that Mack could choose between us.
- [Mack is shown listening to what Anne is saying]
- M. "Mack" Patrick MacKenzie: [later on, at Mack and Karen's house] I never give a gift unless I like it myself and I love hot dogs.
- [Mack puts on a "Kiss the Cook" apron]
- M. "Mack" Patrick MacKenzie: Especially when they're charcoal barbecued. I'll even put your names in them. You know, Karen, I love our house and listen...I love how quiet it is on our cul-de-sac.
- [Karen is speechless and looks at Anne, who has a flabbergasted look on her face]
- Laura Avery Sumner: How about this dress for her first birthday? This one for her baptism. This is one for her second birthday. And, uh, this one for when she turns three, huh?
- Karen Cooper Fairgate MacKenzie: Whoa, wait a minute. Laura, I heard of planning ahead, but this is really planning ahead.
- Laura Avery Sumner: Well, I have to plan ahead.
- Karen Cooper Fairgate MacKenzie: Why?
- Laura Avery Sumner: Because there's a lot of things that I'm not going to do with Meg.
- [Laura looks at Karen and realizes that Laura is dying]
- Laura Avery Sumner: Don't get upset, I mean. If you're gonna get upset, I'm gonna get upset, okay. I'm sorry. Please, please, I really need your help.
- Laura Avery Sumner: Look, I'm just going away for treatment, that's all.
- Gregory Sumner: You're going away to die.
- Laura Avery Sumner: It's a very good clinic.
- Gregory Sumner: It must be a hell of a place if people go there to die. I want to be there.
- Laura Avery Sumner: I wanna be alone. It's my choice.
- Gregory Sumner: It's not just your choice.
- Laura Avery Sumner: It is my choice.
- Gregory Sumner: Will you quit saying that! Your choice, your choice! What the hell am I? Nothing? A zero? I have a choice to you know and I choose to be there. You want me to imagine how you feel? Well, try to imagine how I feel saying when you say that I can't be there.
- Laura Avery Sumner: I just don't want you to watch me, it's that simple.
- Karen Cooper Fairgate MacKenzie: I don't want you to die.
- Sid Fairgate: Would you just do what you know and I know has to be done?
- Karen Cooper Fairgate MacKenzie: [Karen signs the sheet to possibly have Sid undergo surgery to restore the use of his limbs] But I swear to God, Sid, if anything happens to you.
- Garrison Arthur 'Gary' Ewing: [handing Abby a copy of what he'll settle for in their divorce settlement] Here, this should be to your liking.
- Abby Fairgate Cunningham Ewing Sumner: It's nice, but it's not enough.
