‘Book Club: The Next Chapter’ (2023) Ending, Explained: Why Do Vivian And Arthur Cancel The Wedding?
While it’s irrefutably true that where exactly you are in life has more to do with your opinion of a movie than maybe even the movie itself, some films are more demanding than that. To truly let go of your reservations and take Bill Holderman’s rom-com Book Club: The Next Chapter how it was intended, you’d need to tame a lot of your cynicism, and even your politics may need to take a backseat. And if you can look past the tremendous exhibition of privilege the characters wish to pass off as their impassioned revolt against fate, Book Club really does bring about quite a ray of hope, a toned-down version of which could be yours too. Barring the recurrent The Alchemist references that can be chalked up to Carol, Vivian, Diane, and Sharon’s hallmark optimism and the flamboyantly mushy ending, it’s quite refreshing...

Missing is a thriller directed by Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick staring Storm Reid.
Screenlife movies are those movies that tell stories through the computer screen, with hookups, video calls and so on. Not that it’s a new genre, nor is this one going to be the first blockbuster in the genre, but it has a good enough script to make an impact with its premise.
Movie Review
Fast-paced, lots of story and, above all, lots of editing. It is not the movie about “four friends” with no money who want to make a movie and, for budgetary reasons, choose this genre as a last resort: Missing is a movie with a dizzying pace, plot twists, surprises and a lot of sense of aesthetics (although these aesthetics may not please everyone).
It knows how to take advantage of everything at its disposal and teaches us that, with almost anything,...

The 78th annual Golden Globes take place virtually Sunday night on NBC with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey returning as hosts. “Mank,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” “The Crown,” “The Flight Attendant” and “Ted Lasso” are among the top nominees in the feature film and TV categories.
Also in contention is a movie called “Music” that was shot in 2017 and marks the directorial debut of the singer Sia. While it merits a mere 11% at Rotten Tomatoes, it reaped nominations for Best Musical/Comedy and star Kate Hudson. These bids harken back to 1982 when Pia Zadora won New Star of the Year for the well-stuffed turkey “Butterfly.” She also won the Razzie Award for the film which also starred Orson Welles.
And just who was Zadora’s competition for New Star of the Year? Elizabeth McGovern and Howard Rollins Jr. for “Ragtime”; Kathleen Turner for “Body Heat” Rachel Ward for...

Four Friends. One Phone Call. 60 Seconds. Stay Alive. Check out the trailer:
Four Friends. One Phone Call. 60 Seconds to Stay Alive. In the fall of 1987, a group of small-town friends must survive the night in the home of a sinister couple after a tragic accident occurs in The Call. Needing only to make a single phone call, the request seems horribly ordinary until they realize that this call could change their life…or end it. This simple task quickly spirals into terror as their worst nightmares become reality as they enter the realm of The Call.
This spine-tingling tale stars horror icons Lin Shaye and Tobin Bell, along with Chester Rushing (Stranger Things), Erin Sanders (Big Time Rush) and Judd Lormand (Seal Team). The Call opens exclusively in theaters and drive-ins nationwide October 2 from Cinedigm (Nasdaq: Cidm).
Shaye is best known for her role of Elise Rainier from the worldwide box office hit franchise Insidious.

And then he fell ill. But he watched from far, the good reviews that his recent movie was earning in Kerala. Allu Ramendran was a lovely beginning to a new year, and he speaks happily of the film and the very ordinary character of a policeman that he plays in it. “He is a police jeep driver, a commoner. The film itself runs on a simple thread but it is the narration that makes it interesting. That and the emotional content. Ramendran’s emotional travel is what attracted me to the film,” Kunchacko says in a nasal voice. The cold has not left him yet. But the voice is easily recognisable. We've heard it for 20 odd years,...

When Kip Moore released his debut album, Up All Night, in 2012, it was a success almost out of the gate. With hits like “Something ‘Bout a Truck,’ which Moore’s sexy, raspy delivery managed to elevate out of country’s truck rut, “Hey Pretty Girl” and “Beer Money,” the album put the Tifton, Georgia, native in the spotlight. But despite critical kudos, his sonically ambitious second album Wild Ones underperformed, and suddenly the town that hailed him as a new original voice got busy writing his swan song. It was, Moore tells People, “a kick in the teeth.”

Subliminal Criminal: Haley’s Debut Feloniously Familiar
There’s a certain amount of smarmy appeal to justify Jackie Earle Haley’s attraction to taking on Criminal Activities, the actor’s first stint as director. Updating a script written by Robert Lowell (a man who has been deceased since 1977), Haley updates the action to modern day Cleveland, but this mob affiliated kidnap caper feels exactly like direct-to-video fodder from the mid to late 90’s modeling snappy, impressionistic dialogue around loopy bits of violence and pronounced plot twists, a common template following the success of Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction (1994). An intriguing ensemble cast heightens a certain interest in the film’s rudimentary wiles, but exaggerated characterizations distract from an inevitable plot twist only unexpected because it’s not particularly notable.

Based on a novel published in 1978, "The World According To Garp" was released in 1982, and yet watching the film on the recently-released Blu-ray from Warner Archive, I was struck by how timely and even urgent the material felt, and how much more adult and daring it is than most of the movies released by studios today. Not only do they not make them like this anymore, but I'd offer the opinion that they never really did. How can a film from 1978 have a better handle on the times we're living in right now than most of the films coming out this year? After all, much of John Irving's novel is a direct reaction to the late '70s and what Irving thought of the social landscape at that particular moment. How relevant could it be today, since we've obviously progressed so much since then? You'd be surprised. For those...

The gangster era of the 80’s is a principal layer in the upcoming film ‘Vartak Nagar’. The gangster played by Jimmy Shergill has a violent face off with the honest and upright mill union leader played by Raghu Ram.
Producer Amit Agarwal feels that the audience has not seen such a film in years. “Vartak Nagar is the story of four teenage boys set against the gangster era and the great Bombay mill strike of the 80s.” “Though I am based in Kolkata but I am happy teaming up with Kunal Kohli and debuting in Bollywood as a producer for this wonderful tale of friendship” says Amit.
Jimmy Shergill is upbeat about playing Bala Chavan, the local don. “I have never played a Maharashtrian don before. It was fun to play a character which is pure evil and also a bit disconcerting at times to play a character like Bala...

Nope, you didn’t read that heading wrong. Despite sharing a similar title to That Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Shark is not a rip-roaring archaeological adventure, instead it’s the latest in a long line of creature-feature movies that have, for what seems like eons now, been a mainstay of the Syfy channel (see Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Sharknado, Swamp Shark et al).
Four friends set out by boat for an idyllic vacation on a private, remote island. But unknown to them, a weaponized shark has escaped from a top secret military lab nearby, a shark that was genetically engineered with hate in its blood, and programmed to hunt any human within range. Now, these friends must band together to battle an all new brand of predator who will stop at nothing to remain at the top of the food chain.

I must admit that I have a big ole soft spot for movies that take place in abandoned mental asylums, especially when they're actually shot inside real ones. Such is the case with Eloise, and we've got all the spooky details for ya today!
Per Deadline, Eliza Dushku, Chace Crawford, Brandon T. Jackson and Pj Byrne have all been cast in the Robert Legato-directed thriller, which begins shooting on May 5th.
Written by Chris Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes), the film is set in a defunct insane asylum known as “Eloise.” Four friends break into the abandoned institution in hopes of finding a death certificate, which will provide Jacob (Crawford) with the rights to a sizable inheritance. While inside the asylum, the group not only finds that the institution houses a horrifying history but also the truth about their own tragic pasts.

It’s October. The leaves are turning brown and the nights are drawing in. It’s cold and it’s raining and it’s nearly Halloween. The perfect time, then, to curl up with a good book and give yourself the creeps. But which book?
You could go for one of the classics – Dracula, or Frankenstein, or something by Lovecraft or Poe – or you could go with the zeitgeist and pick up Stephen King’s Cell, or even The Shining, if you’ve not read it already. Any of those would be perfectly good choices. But let’s face it, if you were gonna read one of those, you wouldn’t need me to recommend them.
Here, instead, is a list of 25 other horror novels guaranteed to give you nightmares…...

The 2nd annual South Texas Underground Film Festival, running Oct. 3-6 in Corpus Christi, Texas, is a massive celebration of international alternative cinema, including plenty from Texas filmmakers, of course.
The fest opened on the 3rd with the drop-dead hilarious comedy Pictures of Superheroes by Austin filmmaker Don Swaynos.
But, there’s still plenty more to see throughout the jam-packed weekend wherein films screen from morning until, well, early into the next morning.
The film that’s absolutely not to be missed is the screening on the 6th at 10:30 a.m. of Savage Witches, the amazing celebration of the art of filmmaking by British directors Daniel Fawcett & Clara Pais. A colorful spectacle of multiple filmmaking styles, Savage Witches is a real joy to experience.

"Butcher Boys" has a tough road ahead of it. Thanks to its writer and producer, the movie will inevitably be compared to "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" as soon as the opening credits start to roll. It's unfair and a shame, because the movie once entitled "Boneboys" actually isn't a bad little independent horror piece.
Four friends are out on the town for a birthday celebration. After provoking a couple troublemakers, the group get into a high-speed chase through a bad part of the city. They drive up on a gang hanging out in the street, causing a wreck that kills the dog of one of the thugs. Little do they know that their actions have brought them into the world of a cannibalistic band of psychopaths bent on making them their next meal.
Kim Henkel is probably best known as the producer and writer of the original The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

The found-footage horror genre has become more ubiquitous over the past decade, even though it dates back to 1980's "Cannibal Holocaust." Some of its movies have met critical acclaim, including "The Blair Witch Project" -- which celebrates its 14th anniversary on July 30 -- as well as the original "Paranormal Activity" and this month's "The Conjuring."
Each of these movies bills itself on a sense of believability, but some are too far-fetched to be truly terrifying. Here are six of the least believable found-footage horror films.
"Europa Report" (2013)
It's like "Gravity" without the budget or the A-list cast. "Europa Report" finds six astronauts traveling to Jupiter's moons on a privately funded mission to detect life on the planet. One crew member dies and the remaining space troopers can't re-establish communication with Earth, yet they find a way to transmit the "found" footage back home before the rest of them meet their doom.

In this article Jason Bender, lead designer from Blizzard Entertainment, talks about Diablo III’s showing at E3 and some of the inspiration for bringing this game to a home console. Here’s what he had to say about the feeling he wants to evoke with this move from the PC to the console:
The excitement and energy of the show reminded me of a time when people actually left the house to play videogames. Yes, I’m talking about arcades: magical places filled with vibrant colors, flashing lights, and the never-ending clink-clink-clink of tokens cascading out of a change machine. There you could find the latest and greatest games—and people to play them with. Arcades were a uniquely social experience. You could hang out and have fun with friends, or you could make new ones while bonding over joysticks.

Dedicated television viewers know that there will always be shows that everyone wants you to watch, either it’s a cult show, a show that ended way before it’s time, or seems to grab everyone’s attention but yours. However many viewers find themselves stumbling upon these shows either years later or late into a shows run. I’ve compiled a list of ten shows, published once a week, that have become classics or are on their way to doing so and have recently been discovered by this writer.

The opening documentary film at the 2012 Napa Vally Film Festival, welcome to the most difficult test you’ve Never heard of…
Somm takes the viewer on a humorous, emotional and illuminating look into a mysterious world – the Court of Master Sommeliers and the massively intimidating Master Sommelier Exam. The Court of Master Sommeliers is one of the world’s most prestigious, secretive, and exclusive organizations. Since its inception almost 40 years ago, less than 200 candidates have reached the exalted Master level. The exam covers literally every nuance of the world of wine, spirits and cigars.
Those who have passed have put at risk their personal lives, their well- being, and often their sanity to pull it off. Shrouded in secrecy, access to the Court Of Master Sommeliers has always been strictly regulated and cameras have never been allowed anywhere near the exam, until now.
How much do you think you know about wine?...
