While I was watching this picture, I asked myself more times: why cannot the Hungarian film industry product nowadays similarly brilliant movies? After having seen a lot of new Hungarian movies recently, the watching of A nagy generáció (English translation: The Great Generation) was really pleasurable.
Réb went to the United States about 20 years ago and in the eighties he returns to Budapest with her teenager daughter. He meets people who where many years before important: his old friends, Nyikita and Makai, Mari, the mother of her daughter who is now Nyikita's wife. Everyone thinks he got wealthy in the USA - in fact he doesn't have anything and try to gain some money by Makai's old father, who formerly invented something. Meanwhile Mari is taking a liking for her daughter who would stay gladly with her.
It's a really emotional story of ordinary people and their common problems. We got an interesting imagery of the young adults of the 60s when they are over forty and about the country in the last years of the communistic era. Famous actors were chosen for the roles and they act excellent. I mainly liked Koltay's performance who is mostly known about their comedic roles and directions. To be honest, I dislike the most of those but in this movie he was awesome as Nyikita, the vicious, ugly merchant.
