A number of their sketches caused controversy, especially the sketch in which they pretended to have microwaved a cat. This clip got them onto the top 50 on "50 most shocking comedy moments" and they believe that the sketch gave them the notoriety that kept them in work all the successive series.
On January 29th 1988, 10 month before Hale and Pace (1988) aired for the first time on ITV on 2nd October 1988. Norman Pace's 4 month old daughter Holly was sick with a deadly strain of meningitis and it left Holly with partial paralysis, brain damage and epilepsy. Norman Pace became a Patron of Meningitis Research Foundation and in 2009, Norman Pace and Dr, Hilary Jones recorded a 9 minute video "Holly's Story" to explain the importance of knowing the symptoms of meningitis and septicaemia and to help save lives.
Hale and Pace's most famous character creations, The Two Rons aka "The Management" would later go on to do Clorets adverts and fireworks safety public information films.
Gareth Hale had shaved off his trademark mustache prior to record of the final sketch.
Between Seasons 2 and 3, Gareth Hale and Norman Pace made a cameo in the final story of the original series of "Doctor Who" Survival: Part One (#26.12) opposite Sylvester McCoy as The Doctor.
