The actress, who made her feature-film debut in 1986’s Lucas at just 15 years old, shared in a recent interview with AnOther Magazine that instead of relocating to Los Angles, her parents chose to drive seven hours from San Francisco to L.A. each time she got an audition.

She added that school was also a priority in her family, which meant she “had to keep up my grades” to be allowed to go on auditions.

“I couldn’t work if it coincided with school,” Ryder explained. “My parents — who are just my best friends — were very wary of Hollywood. They associated it with Judy Garland’s tragedy, and we never relocated there. That turned out to be such a gift, because I knew a lot of kids who did bear that.

Malaga, Spain — “The Chapel,” from “Piggy” director Carlota Pereda, Celia Rico’s competition title “Little Loves,” loved by a lot of critics, and “Free Falling,” produced by “Society of the Snow’s” J.A. Bayona and that film’s producer Belén Atienza, looked like three of the hottest tickets at this week’s Malaga market and Spanish Screenings which rated as the most upbeat in years.

Most all sales agents on the films – focusing on titles from Spain and Latin America – whose ranks are now swelled by Antonia Nava’s Neo Art International, forecast or saw deal traction on more than one title or a broad slate of films.

Brett Hadley, best known for his longtime role as Genoa City police detective Carl Williams on The Young and the Restless, died Wednesday, according to Soap Opera Digest and his longtime friend, photographer Mary Ann Halpin, who shared the news on Facebook. Hadley was 92. A cause of death was not revealed.

Born on September 25, 1930, in Louisville, Ky, Hadley studied drama at the University of New Mexico. He began working in television in the early 1970s, with guest roles on numerous series including Room 222, The F.B.I., Ironside, Lucas Tanner, The Waltons and Kojak, as well as a major recurring role on Marcus Welby, M.D.

Happy Tuesday, dear readers! We have a brand new round of home media releases on tap for today, and we have a mix of new and classic titles headed home this week. As far as new genre offerings go, Rob Savage’s Dashcam, The Last Thing Mary Saw, and Shark Bait are all being released on DVD, and The Twin featuring Teresa Palmer is coming out on Blu-ray. Galaxy Quest, which is an all-timer in our house, is getting a new Blu-ray today, and as far as older films go, both The Last Broadcast and Terror Circus are getting an HD overhaul, too.
