Ferragosto and Elvio Battistini are home alone after their family went to Greece.

The basic interest in watching this 1988 Italian feature was to see two excellent actors in action. The idea behind the comedy was to show how older people left behind in most of Europe during the summer, as children grown up now and with families of their own, go on their merry ways while the old folks are left behind fending for themselves and bored to death, or worse. Elvio Battistini works as a ticket taker in the local cinema of the small town where he lives. He has a prosthesis in one leg, the result of an accident, but he tells anyone who will listen it is a war injury. Giuseppe Mondardini, is also an older man living alone in what was the splendid family home. When Elvio and Giuseppe meet, they hit it off immediately. A trip to a cooler area is in order, so Mordardini unveils his ancient automobile. What follows is an adventure that will take them to the French Riviera, something Battistini did not want to do. The friends bond, have a good time, but when Germaine, an attractive nurse, enters their picture, both fall in love for the woman, who has ideas of her own as how to spend her vacation. Elvio and Giuseppe wind up in a nudist beach where they are asked to leave since they are not naked. Enrico Oldoini directed the comedy whose screenplay he, and Mr. Sordi helped to write. The film is fun to watch, although the material does not add anything to either of the stars&#39; curriculum, they have done much better before. Andrea Ferreol appears as Germaine.

A very underrated gem with the late Blier and Sordi, this movie is in the typical style of the most celebrated &quot;Commedia all&#39;italiana&quot; movies of the 1960s and 1970s, and some sort of old age counterpart of Dino Risi&#39;s &quot;Il Sorpasso / The Easy Life&quot;. It is also a great performance for the Sordi-Blier duo, which on its own justifies a 10 vote.
