- Harry Callahan's character name becomes Harry ''Callaghan'' in the Italian version and titles because the local distributor thought it sounded better.
- To get a '18' rating in 1988, 12 seconds were removed from the UK version by the BBFC with edits made to images on a TV screen combining footage of a woman screaming in a car and a shot of a woman being attacked by a dog (the latter of which was stock footage from the 1977 film The Pack (1977)). In 2002 these cuts were waived.
- For its German VHS release in the late 80s, the film was cut by 13 seconds to secure a "Not under 16" rating. These cuts were waived in 2008 when the complete film was re-rated "Not under 16".
- While not as drastic as the previous movies, the 5.1 remix still replaces several sound effects (mostly gunshots once again) with newer ones, despite the original mix being stereo instead of mono. There is also a music cue deleted in the remix in the scene when Harry finds the list at the Chinese restaurant that was present in the original stereo mix.
