Several decades ago, Pet Shop Boys shared a six-track dance album titled Relentless as the second disc of their limited edition double LP Very Relentless. In celebration of its 30th anniversary, the band decided to make the rarity available once again on October 20th via Parlophone.
Back in 1993, Pet Shop Boys released their fifth studio album, Very, to critical acclaim and worldwide success. In addition to topping the UK albums chart, it spawned the Top 10 singles “Go west” (a Village People cover) and “Can you forgive her?” They expanded the release with the aforementioned Very Relentless while also making Relentless available as a standalone vinyl limited to 500 copies. The six tracks on the latter album have not been available since then.
The reissue of Relentless will be available as a limited edition yellow vinyl with new artwork, as well as in CD and digital formats. Pre-orders are ongoing. See the artwork and tracklist below.

The Pretenders are back with their new album Relentless.
Relentless, The Pretenders’ follow-up to 2020’s Hate for Sale, was produced by multiple Grammy Award-nominee David Wrench at London’s Battery Studios. Along with bandleader Chrissie Hydne, the album features performances from Kris Sonne (drums), Chris Hill (double bass), Dave Page (bass), and Carwyn Ellis (keyboards and guitars), as well as a track featuring Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.
“I enjoy seeing the various meanings and origins of a word,” Hynde said of the album’s title in a press release. “And I liked the definition: ‘showing no abatement of intensity.’ So when it came to an album title, it seemed fitting. You know…to keep doing it. I think anyone in a band is constantly questioning if they should keep going. It starts as a youthful pursuit and eventually, it makes you wonder, why am I doing this? It’s the life of the artist.

Cirith Ungol have announced their sixth studio album, Dark Parade, arriving October 20th via Metal Blade. Lead single and album opener “Velocity (S.E.P.)” can be heard now.
The Cali vets are cult heroes among ’80s metal circles, and “Velocity (S.E.P.)” harnesses the band’s definitive power metal sound. Spiraling leads and melodic riffs lay the foundation, while frontman Tim Baker’s vocals echo ominously throughout all corners of the mix. It’s a surefire ripper with an air of evil, and as guitarist Jimmy Barraza explained, there are some specific musical quirks under the hood that are new to the Cirith Ungol formula.
“While talking with Tim and [drummer] Rob [Garven] about what kind of song was needed, a decision was made to stop doing the galloping chugs, as done many times on previous albums, and start doing down-picking chugs while keeping some sort of tie to the Cirith Ungol sound,...

His wife Cathy shared the news through a friend on Facebook, writing, “It is with the greatest sorrow and sadness that I let you all know John passed away this afternoon … I had heard him over the past few weeks having lengthy conversations with many of you and you brought such joy to him … Thank you all for your heartfelt messages. One of his favorite quotes was, ‘All that you can take with you is that which you’ve given away.’ From reading your messages, I know he gave much away and so much love was sent to him. A filmed version of the musician’s hit Broadway show plays like a vibrant greatest hits extravaganza that could win converts
Spike Lee has made a filmed record of David Byrne’s Broadway stage-show version of his solo album American Utopia, a live reimagining of the record in which a lavish selection of his classic tracks with Talking Heads is also performed. So many, in fact, that it almost feels like a greatest hits extravaganza. Psycho Killer is excluded, but there are plenty of absolute bangers from yesteryear, and from an early stage in the proceedings, you can see members of the Broadway audience in the front row standing up and rocking out: people who have perhaps grown old with the great man himself and allowed their own hair to become as snowy as his. (Byrne looks more like Jim Jarmusch with each passing year.)

Even in an era when rock shows were all about orgiastic excess, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne made a warm and inviting spectacle out of his own smallness. The signature image from Jonathan Demme’s totemic concert documentary “Stop Making Sense” finds Byrne getting lost inside his own comically large silver business suit; maybe it was a Kabuki-like expression of a man being swallowed alive by runaway capitalism, or maybe — as Byrne maintains — he just wanted to make it look like his head had shrunken down to a funny size.
Not that it was ever big to begin with. As radical in his humility as he was humble in his radicality, art rock’s very own Mr. Rogers welcomed us into his neighborhood by singing about the building that he wanted to live in and pointing out the highway that would lead us there; he bent the confusion of...

Netflix has revealed plans for its most ambitious movie project yet, tapping Avengers: Endgame conjurers Joe and Anthony Russo to direct an action-packed thriller that has two major headliners in Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, along with an estimated budget of $200 million!
The Gray Man, an adaptation of Mark Greaney’s 2009 spy novel of the same name, will not only see the esteemed Russo Brothers serve as directors and producers via their Agbo shingle, but has locked in a duo of co-headliners in Gosling and Evans, reports Deadline. The streaming giant is designing the film to launch a prospective James Bond-type film franchise, as evidenced by the cited budgetary scale, upward of $200 million—by far the biggest budget it has ever committed to a project. Joe Russo will pen the script, which will be polished by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, both of whom co-scripted the Russos’ now-iconic Marvel movies.

Alfred Hitchcock’s “Psycho” was released 60 years ago today, and though it is considered by many, including me, to be the greatest horror movie ever made, it’s one that achieves the singular feat of scaring you to your soul without monsters or demons. Of course, you could say that it does have one: Anthony Perkins’ stammering, bird-eyed Norman Bates, the nebbish motel clerk who thinks, at certain moments, that he’s his mother — and that she’s the killer inside him. Yet Norman is a monster of warped humanity; he’s a nervous schizoid freak.
The booby trap of “Psycho,” the joke of it, and the endlessly rewatchable pleasure and profundity of it is that Norman is one sick puppy, but the movie keeps fooling you into thinking it’s the tale of a grander, more metaphysically unsettling evil. The Bates house looks like a haunted mansion out of the 19th century.

Score another victory to the undead! FX has renewed its superb vampire mockumentary series What We Do in the Shadows for a third season. Nandor the Relentless (Kayvan Novak), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Laszlo Cravensworth (Matt Berry), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) are set to terrorize (or mildly inconvenience) Staten Island for at least one more year.

Amazon’s highly-anticipated shooter Crucible is part of the company’s plan to expand further into the world of video gaming (which includes their upcoming video game streaming service).
If the name Crucible rings a bell, that’s because Amazon announced the game back in 2016 during a Twitch event. They didn’t share many details regarding the title at that time and, according to Amazon representatives, quite a lot has changed since then.
“It’s the active involvement of hundreds and hundreds of people over very long periods of time that gets to a great product,” says Louis Castle, a member of Amazon’s Relentless game studio, regarding the game’s prolonged development. “Thankfully, we’re with a company that has the resources to let this new team fully gel and get a great expression out there.”
Crucible will be a competitive online shooter that currently emphasizes class elements and abilities.

With readers turning to their home viewing options more than ever, this daily feature provides one new movie each day worth checking out on a major streaming platform.
David Byrne is one of the most resilient musical artists in modern history, and his talent for satisfying audiences while leading them into unexpected places has shown no signs of wear. As recently as February, Byrne was throwing a party on Broadway every night with “American Utopia,” resurrecting and refashioning some of his greatest hits alongside new compositions into a visually dazzling meditation on how a troubled nation can harbor greater potential. At some point, the Spike Lee-directed version of “American Utopia” announced earlier this year may give more audiences a chance to hang with Byrne’s latest euphoric sensation; until then, there is still “Stop Making Sense,” which still delivers all the joy you need to get through the day.

A movie hero gets unplugged from the web of grand illusion he’s been living in, then dunked into the reality behind the façade. That’s what happened in “The Matrix,” when Keanu Reeves’ Neo woke up to learn that he’d been trapped in a narcotizing dream world. It happens, once again, in “Bloodshot,” a derivative but catchy pulp action superhero head trip about a U.S. Marine, Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel), who gets killed and brought back to life in a newly enhanced and indestructible form. He goes on a vengeful murder mission, hunting down the scoundrel who killed his wife, but even this payback odyssey isn’t what it seems — it’s the creation of forces out to control him.
If you’re part of the audience that goes to see “Bloodshot,” you may experience your own version of that pleasingly disorienting unplugged feeling. Here we are,...

In the year of our Ford 2019, trying to make sense of people’s wildly divergent Star Wars opinions opens up a murky frontier of epistemological questions that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, in theaters now, only complicates all the more. Epistemology concerns the nature of knowledge and justified belief. I believe that people believe what they […]

If you're looking for a diverse and entertaining horror themed podcast, hopefully you've already found 'Killer Pov,' the weekly horror talk show podcast hosted by Fearnet's own Rob Galluzzo, Fangoria's Rebekah McKendry and Inside Horror's Elric Kane. Available on both iTunes and directly from the GeekNation website (who produces the show), the gang recently celebrated their 50th episode (!) and joining in on the celebration was none other than director William Lustig (aka Bill to those that know him well)! Lustig was the man behind the original 'Maniac,' the 'Maniac Cop' franchise, as well as cult classics 'Vilgilante,' 'Hit List,' 'Relentless' and 'Uncle Sam' (currently streaming this week in The Vault with exclusive video commentary by Heidi Honeycutt & Jill Kill), as well as being at the forefront of home video entertainment with his company Blue Underground.

Featuring one of the best taglines ever: “You have the right to remain silent… Forever”, one of my all-time favourite horror franchises finally makes it Blu-ray debut with this release of the fantastic Maniac Cop from Arrow Video. Written and directed by one of Hollywood’s greatest filmmaking teams – WIlliam Lustig and Larry Cohen – who between them have made some of the best cult movies out there, including The Stuff, Q: The WInged Serpent, It’s Alive, Maniac, Uncle Sam and Relentless… The duos peak for me was the Maniac Cop series (admittedly the third film isn’t the greatest movie out there) which balance action and horror to perfection in a tale that mixes both horror and police procedural genres, with a villain who really deserves to be up...

Back when I manned the horror section of the video store I worked at, anytime I’d find a customer skimming through all the “S” titles with mild frustration, 99 percent of the time, I knew exactly what it was they were looking for. And when I would finally ask, my suspicions were confirmed. “Do you have ‘The Silence Of The Lamb’”? I always thought the Hannibal Lector movies were horror!” And it got me thinking about a handful of other titles that horror fans might not even think to hunt for in the “mystery/thriller” section. There are the obvious choices like Se7en or Misery. Then, there’s also stuff like The Sixth Sense, which yes,...
