A new TV documentary about iconic author Edgar Allan Poe aims to separate the man from the myth, but its producers must first deal with more pressing matters in the present day. As Halloween grows near, Edgar Allan Poe: Buried Alive is running out of time to raise the $75,000 it needs to cover post-production costs.
The project, which stars Denis O’Hare as the famed writer, launched a Kickstarter campaign earlier this month with a deadline of October 31 and has already raised more than $63,000. But with four days to go, producers are banking on Poe’s extensive fan base to help them reach their goal.
“We’re constantly amazed at Poe’s ubiquitous presence on the web,” said director Eric Stange in a press release. “His worldwide fan base is extremely wide and includes everyone from goths to steam punks to scholars. We’re hoping plenty of them will...

Originally I thought we had Edgar Allan Poe to thank for the fear surrounding being buried alive, as he penned several stories around the macabre topic. Many movies have depicted the dark, claustrophobic terror as well, leaving us with long-lasting nightmares (think Ryan Reynolds in Buried — don’t worry, this one’s not a major spoiler). TV has touched on the subject, too. The Following‘s Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) started a cult of Poe-inspired killers and buried an FBI agent alive in one episode. The fear of being buried alive isn’t just dramatized fiction. Google the topic and you’ll find plenty of … Continue reading →

Somebody needs to call the Poe-Poe, because this show has broken every law of good television.
What started out as a fun, frothy, ghoulish melange of police procedural and serial killer fantasia has devolved into an absolute dumpster fire of a show. It's not fun, it's not clever, it's not compelling, and it's not remotely believable anymore - and this episode's stupidity put the final nail into the coffin of the show that should, in the words of Edgar Allen Poe, be "Buried Alive".
Still, because I am contractually obligated to cover this episode... and there may be a gay character tucked into a crawlspace somewhere, here we go:
Jacob (Nico Tortorella) wakes up to the sight of a supremely ripped, towel-clad (and somehow not-dead) Paul (Adan Canto) entering the room. Jacob then finds Emma (Valorie Curry) dead in the shower. Wait, is this Jacob's dream sequence or mine?...

Yonkers - Ernie Kovacs is the patron saint of innovative TV comedies. His impact can be felt on everything from Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In to Monty Python’s Flying Circus to Saturday Night Live. Shout! Factory’s The Ernie Kovacs Collection gives a survey of his short yet stellar career that ended in 1962 with his death. Over the course of six DVDs, you realize this guy truly revolutionized what you could do on TV.
The boxset doesn’t have any of the episodes from his original Three to Get Ready show that aired on Philly TV. But we get a healthy helping of his other shows that allowed him to bounce between NBC, CBS, ABC and even the legendary DuMont. Along with creating comedy shows, he hosted talkshows, gameshows and even variety shows. He even contributed to Mad Magazine. His famous mustache and cigar popped up all over the dial.
