Erykah Badu, executive producer of the forthcoming documentary about late jazz and R&b trumpeter Roy Hargrove, wastes no time in elaborating on the influence her collaborator and high school classmate exerted on her life and career.
“It started with Roy,” says Badu, who first met Hargrove in 1985, when she was a freshman at Dallas’ Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. “Roy was the first person I met in high school: he in the music department and jazz band, me in dance right next door. We danced to that band’s versions of John Coltrane, Miles Davis. That helped me understand what jazz was, and how to interpret it. It was a subtle rebellion. Roy was already a legend as a sophomore — truth is,” she adds, “Roy was actually a legend starting in junior high.”

Ashley Calhoun, Pulse Music Group’s new head of creative, preaches the power of patience.
Calhoun knows a lot about long plays. She signed beloved R&b artist Kehlani to the publishing and label group in February, after five years of conversation. “There were just a lot of things, deal-wise, that needed to be worked out,” Calhoun says. “She was really focused on building out her catalog and her worth, which she did. And it was the right time for us to sign an artist at that level. It was all timing.

Young American singer Trevor Daniel recently sang a duet with pop star Selena Gomez, with Grammy winner Finneas contributing as a songwriter. Trevor now hopes to join singer Camila Cabello on a tour.
Trevor released "Past life" on March 6, 2020, and followed it up with an official remix with Selena.
"While creating the song I initially felt Selena would sound really great on it, so the idea of having her on the record was there. I am really happy and blessed to have her a part of it," Trevor told Ians.
He shared that what makes the song special is "what the song stands for, which is letting go of toxic things, and growing as an individual".
And Selena "really related to it", he claims.

Ronald L. Schwary, who won the Academy Award for Best Picture for producing Robert Redford’s “Ordinary People,” died on July 2 in West Hollywood, Calif. He was 76.
Schwary, an Oregon native, had broken into the entertainment business through his friendship with John Wayne while working as a manager of the USC football team. Wayne assisted Schwary in getting work as a stand-in for Dustin Hoffman on “The Graduate” and as an extra in “Planet of the Apes.”
Schwary also became a DGA Trainee, which led to the start of his career as an assistant
director in the early 1970s. He began working with Jerry Lewis, Elvis, Peter Fonda, Ann-Margret, Jack Lemmon, and Walter Matthau and eventually became a production

Ronald L. Schwary, Oscar-winning producer of Robert Redford’s 1980 drama “Ordinary People,” died on July 2 at age 76, his family announced.
He was forced into retirement in 2015 due to a rare neurological autonomic disorder that he had been struggling with. His death was due to complications of his disorder. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his sons.
Schwary’s extensive career as a producer took off in 1978 after serving as an associate producer on the film adaptation of the Neil Simon play “California Suite,” starring Jane Fonda, Alan Alda, Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor and many others. Ronald Schwary, who won an Oscar as the producer of Ordinary People and whose other major film successes include A Soldier’s Story, Absence of Malice, Scent of a Woman and Tootsie, has died. He was 76. He passed away Thursday in West Hollywood, according to his sons.
No cause of death was provided, but reports indicate Schwary had struggled with a rare neurological autonomic disorder.
Schwary was the producer on six Sydney Pollack-directed films: The Electric Horseman (1979) and Havana (1990), with Robert Redford; Absence of Malice (1981), starring Paul Newman; Best Picture nominee Tootsie (1982), with Dustin Hoffman; Sabrina (1995), featuring Harrison Ford, and Random Hearts (1999), also starring Ford.
Even though the films were nominated for Best Picture, Schwary did not receive a nomination for either Tootsie or Scent of a Woman or because he was not credited as “Producer.”
On Tootsie, there was a dispute between Columbia and the production regarding the number of credited producers.

He may not be a household name in the vein of Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Travis Scott or The Weeknd, but Frank Dukes has writing and production credits on multiple hits from all of the above and many other popular artists, too. The 36-year-old Canadian super-producer — real name Adam Feeney — has had continuous industry success for well over a decade, though his biggest smash came more recently, with the late 2017 release of Camila Cabello’s “Havana.” That international smash, which Dukes co-wrote and singlehandedly produced, became the world’s best-selling digital single of 2018, and solidified Dukes’ status as one of music’s most in-demand producers.
Over the past two years, Dukes has funneled a substantial portion of his music profits into Los Angeles real estate. Instead of purchasing one oversized mansion, however, he’s picked up three relatively modest — if hardly inexpensive — houses in prime Los Feliz. In 2018, he paid...

After selling her attractive Los Feliz home to Oxycontin heiress Madeleine Sackler, prolific pop music songwriter Ali Tamposi has abruptly shifted residential gears, trading the hipster-approved chicness of L.A.’s Eastside for the relaxed surfer bro vibes of Malibu’s heavily celebrified Point Dume neighborhood. Property records reveal the 30-year-old Florida native has paid nearly $4 million for the longtime home of MTV’s original VJ Martha Quinn and her husband, musician Jordan Tarlow.
Because the transaction transpired off market, photos and details of the house are spare, at best. The Hamptons-style abode sits on a small gated street shared with five other similarly-styled residences. Built in 2003, the two-story, shingle-sided house packs four bedrooms and three baths into about 3,100 square feet of living space, though those figures likely do not include the substantial detached guesthouse, which offers garage bays and almost certainly at least one more bedroom and bath. "Being a traitor's wife is no easy job." Netflix has released a new trailer for a film titled Wasp Network, which initially premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year. Based on a true and gripping story, the film is set in the early 1990s. Cuban spies infiltrate exile groups to stop terrorism against the island, but at a high personal cost. The story follows a pilot and four other Cuban political dissenters who were imprisoned by the United States on charges of espionage and murder. Edgar Ramírez stars as a pilot who starts making illegal runs to/from Cuba. Also starring Penélope Cruz, Gael García Bernal, Wagner Moura, Ana de Armas, Leonardo Sbaraglia, and Julian Flynn. This ended up with awful reviews from Venice, critics calling it one of Olivier Assayas' worst. He has edited it since then, but there's still nothing much to see here. Here's the official...

HBO Max has a major job on its hands to justify its approximately $15 a month subscription fee, especially given the strong competition out there from established names like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Disney Plus faced a similar challenge last year in arriving onto an already-saturated streaming marketplace, but at least had the advantage of major series like The Mandalorian to promote. While HBO Max will eventually be home to the Snyder cut of Justice League, and has some originals for its first week of availability, the big draw right now is its enormous back-catalogue of movies.
Given the various corporate elements that are going into HBO Max, including the Warner Bros. library, owners AT&T will be hoping that the combination of brand recognition for HBO programming, and a deep bench of movies, will convince people to add a new subscription to their list. Do you like lists? Well, here’s a doozy. Below is everything coming to Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu and Amazon Prime in June 2020.
Though the summer sun is starting to beat down, most of us are still being encouraged to stay indoors for Covid-19 related reasons. It’s not much fun, but at the very least, there’s an absolute ton of stuff landing in June that should distract you from the call of the beach.
Of particular note is the newly launched HBO Max, which is trying to catch the eye of potential subscribers with a red-hot first month. There’s an excellent selection of movies coming on June 1st, with horror titles like An American Werewolf in London (still the best werewolf movie ever made), Final Destinations 1-4, From Dusk til Dawn and Lifeforce.

Welcome to the HBO Max era! WarnerMedia’s streaming giant arrived on May 27 and is absolutely bursting with Warner movies, TV shows, and other titles. But time waits for no man or streaming service and each new month HBO Max will be expected to bring new content to the table. Things get started in June 2020 with the first batch of HBO Max new releases.
To be clear, the majority of the original series coming to HBO Max actually belongs to HBO. Shows like I May Destroy You (June 7), Perry Mason (June 21), and I’ll Be Gone in the Dark (June 28) all belong to HBO…which now just happens to be a part of HBO Max. Confusing stuff, we know, but rest assured that if you have HBO Max you’ll get these shows…and if you only have HBO, you can go ahead and just get HBO Max for the same price anyway.

"I struggled with talking about this because I didn't want it to be a part of my narrative, but I am a black woman, who is a part of an entire generation that has a similar story."
Normani began by saying that Camila's comments were hurtful because of how close they used to be and her own experience with racism. "I struggled with talking about...

On “Ordinary Man,” the lushly sentimental title track of Ozzy Osbourne’s latest album, the Godfather of Heavy Metal has the audacity to sing, “I don’t wanna die an ordinary man.” It’s a puzzling lyric because for the past half-century he’s been anything but average — he’s been the Iron Man, the Blizzard of Ozz, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Rebel — but he sings the line from the heart, showing how deep down inside he still feels like he still needs to prove himself. That’s because in the past year or so,...

Noah Centineo has 18.3 million followers on Instagram. That’s about 17 million more than he had when “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” was released just 18 months ago.
Even so, the 23-year-old Florida native insists fame hasn’t gotten in the way of his daily life. “It’s not like I have them following me around in daily life,” Centineo says of his fans on this week’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket.” “I can go out in public. I can go to Starbucks. I go to coffee places. I don’t think it quite has translated to the point of like if Michael B. Jordan goes out in public; I think he would cause a riot. It’s not quite there yet with me, which I’m thankful for.”
Centineo first gained a following playing Jesus Adams Foster on the Jennifer Lopez-executive produced Freeform series “The Fosters.

Camila Cabello is no stranger to the Grammys stage. As E! readers surely recall, the "Liar" songstress kicked off the 2019 awards show with a stirring performance of her hit, "Havana." However, the chart topper has since topped her Grammys performance debut as she once again brought the theatrics for the 2020 Grammys. Singing her emotional song, "First Man," Cabello sang her heart out for a very special someone. Sorry, Shawn Mendes. This one was actually for Cabello's father, Alejandro Cabello. Not only did the "First Man" performance feature real home videos from Cabello's childhood, father Alejandro was sitting front-and-center in the audience. As the 22-year-old...

2019 may be in the decade past, but Camila Cabello is ready to defend the year’s biggest hits against James Corden, who claims that 1999 was a better year for music. In a segment for The Late Late Show, Cabello went up against Corden in a “1999 v 2019 Riff-Off.”
In the clip, Cabello is joined by The Filharmonic to perform some of the stand-out songs of 2019, including Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” and Shawn Mendes’ “If I Can’t Have You.” Corden, meanwhile, showcases Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida...

Camila Cabello is apologizing for her past behavior. On Wednesday, the 22-year-old pop star took to social media to issue an apology surrounding old online posts that have been deemed racist and/or offensive. The posts, which seemingly resurfaced on Dec. 17, show previous Tumblr posts the "Havana" singer shared around 2012, when she was a teenager. Some of the Latin Grammy winner's uploads and re-blogs included gifs, memes and comments (with a few containing the N-word) that were both derogatory and racist towards the Black community. "I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart," Cabello's caption read on Twitter and Instagram Stories, alongside...

On her 2018 self-titled debut, Camila Cabello was a sultry pop singer who didn’t mind looking inward in her music, exploring an emo intimacy with a classic-feeling soulfulness. On Romance, she’s just as much of an open book. This past year the singer ended one relationship and then found herself in a new one, coupled-up with Canadian crooner Shawn Mendes, and she uses that narrative as a backdrop to sharpen her writing and deepen her sound.

Camila Cabello has unveiled a new single, “Cry For Me,” a heartbroken (but upbeat) number about an ex boyfriend. The track was written by Cabello, Ryan Tedder, Lou Bell and Frank Dukes, and produced by Bell and Dukes, who also worked on the singer’s hits “Havana” and “Never Be the Same.”
The pop number takes on that feeling after a breakup where you want your ex to be just as miserable as you are. Cabello croons, “When I said I hope you’re happy I didn’t mean it...

Ever since his breakout role in Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before (and even before that on Freeform's The Fosters), Noah Centineo has fans everywhere swooning. Camila Cabello has returned with “Shameless” and “Liar,” her first solo releases since 2018. The tracks will feature on her much-anticipated sophomore album Romance.
On the massive “Shameless,” Cabello sings about an unfulfilled crush. After months of nothing but “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, suddenly we’re getting a lot of upheaval at number-one. Just a week after Billie Eilish finally claimed the lead position with “Bad Guy,” now we have another new chart-topper: “Senorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello. Scroll down to see the rest of the top 10 hits on the chart dated August 31.
“Senorita” is the first number-one single for Mendes and the second for Cabello, who previously topped the chart with her breakthrough solo hit “Havana” featuring Young Thug. But Mendes probably would have ruled the chart months ago if it hadn’t been for “Old Town Road,” which stayed on top for a record-shattering 19 weeks thanks in large part to its massive success on streaming platforms.

Talk about a successful collaboration. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello joined forces on their new single “Senorita,” which they performed together at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. They also took home a pair of Moonmen for the video, so the Monday night telecast turned out to be the capstone to a pretty successful week for the pair. Watch their steamy performance above, and check out the full list of Vma winners here.
This isn’t the first collaboration between the two artists, but it’s definitely the more successful. They previously teamed up in 2015 on the song “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” which peaked at number-20 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. But when “Senorita” dropped this past June it debuted all the way up at number-two, and after waiting several weeks for the record-breaking “Old Town Road” to run out of steam, it finally reached number-one. "Havana" hitmaker Camila Cabello says she does not want to go on social media "that much" because it effects her mental health.
The "Se?orita" crooner tries to stay away from Instagram as much as possible because she can't help but absorb the negativity and allow it to affect her, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“A Lot” by 21 Savage and J. Cole isn’t the biggest hit nominated for Video of the Year at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards — it peaked at number-12 on the Billboard Hot 100, though it has been certified double-platinum — but it might be one of the most politically relevant. That’s because the rapper was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) shortly after the video was released in February. It just so happens that the song includes a lyric critical of the treatment of migrants coming to the Us through Mexico: “Been through some things but I couldn’t imagine my kids stuck at the border.” Watch the video for “A Lot” above.
21 Savage was born in the UK, but has lived in Atlanta since he was a child. He was picked up by Ice due to an expired visa, but many questioned the timing of the arrest,...

Billie Eilish is nothing if not precocious. She’s only 17 years old, but in March she released one of the most successful and acclaimed albums of the year, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” Now she’s nominated for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards for “Bad Guy” (watch it above). If she wins, she wouldn’t be the first teen to do so, but she would be the youngest.
The music business often favors youth, so naturally the VMAs do too. Plenty of 20-somethings have taken Video of the Year from Sinead O’Connor to Camila Cabello. But only two teen acts have prevailed thus far. Panic! at the Disco members Brendon Urie (19) and Spencer Smith (18) were south of 20 when they won for “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” in 2006. The very next year Rihanna won for “Umbrella” when she was 19. Eilish, meanwhile,...

Normani is about to make “Waves.” The singer has ventured out on her own since her group Fifth Harmony went on hiatus, and now she’s nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for Best R&b Video for her collaboration with 6lack. The video for “Waves” premiered in February and has been viewed more than nine million times on YouTube as of this writing (watch it above). Can she beat her all-star rivals including Childish Gambino (“Feels Like Summer”) and Alicia Keys (“Raise a Man”)? Our odds say yes, especially with support from her legion of Harmonizer fans.
This is Normani’s first Vma nomination as a solo artist, but she has already got a few Moonmen on her mantel thanks to Fifth Harmony. She won four awards with that group: Artist to Watch for “Miss Movin’ On” (2014), Best Collaboration for “Work from Home” with Ty Dolla $ign and...

Lil Nas X is the biggest nominee among those performers. As of this writing Lil Nas X continues to extend his record run on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, spending an unprecedented 18 weeks at number-one with “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. And this is happening just as music fans are voting for the MTV Video Music Awards. So having the most popular song in the country right now should make him a lock to win this popular vote, right? You might think so, but new artists rarely win Video of the Year. Watch Lil Nas X’s nominated video above.

Ariana Grande has the kind of passionate fan base that pays off at awards decided by an online vote. Things are still heating up between Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes. The "Señorita" singers continue to spark romance rumors, and their latest outing is adding more fuel to the fire. On Friday afternoon, the two appeared to take a romantic stroll in Brooklyn, New York. They were all smiles as they walked hand-in-hand in the Big Apple. What's more? The pair met up with Mendes' parents, which came a day after his 21st birthday celebration.
