- The UK cinema version was cut by 19 secs by the BBFC for a 12 certificate with edits to footage of: a woman being slapped in the face, a head-butt, a man's head being hit against a car door, a baseball attack on a woman being reduced to one hit and the subsequent sight of the bat aimed at her midriff, and a reduction in gunshots (from 5 to 2). The cuts were fully restored in the 15 rated video release.
- In the original version (filmed in 1990), after his first day with the kindergarteners, Kimble mumbles "They're horrible. They're like little terrorists." In post-9/11 versions, the line about terrorists has been deleted.
- When shown on BBC1 All the gun violence was completely omitted from the disco scene and all of the profanity was either dubbed over or omitted from the film and the scene where John Kimble confronts the father who gave the boy bruises was heavily cut removing profanity and when the father goes to hit John Kimble but John Kimble blocks the punch and punches the boys father in the stomach making the scene appear very out of sorts. The scene where Crisp assaults the man who buys the last race car set outside the toy store was also cut, with the scene ending with Crisp amiably leaving the store.
- In the original theatrical version, Cindy calls Kimble an "asshole" following the shootout at the party. In a version that aired on the NBC television network in 1992, Cindy calls Kimble a "cockroach" instead.
- In the TV version Joyce says to John "There is no money, you stupid jerk." In the theatrical release she says "There is no money, you son of a bitch."
