Just out of the success of his ‘Gadar 2’, Sunny Deol is grabbing headlines all round. The beeline at his office has started again after almost two decades to sign him up. After all, heroes like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan are all knocking on the sixties and have been ruling the roost in the Hindi film industry. Unfortunately, lately their careers have remained fickle. Consistency is lacking in the box-office outcome of their films.
Just when the filmmakers contemplate giving up on them, they turn up one successful film which gives them another couple of years of career extension. Of course, this success enjoys the added advantage of inflated box-office figures. Let alone the public, but even other filmmakers get taken in by these!

Thanks to the success of Bahubali 1 and 2, a new genre of Bollywood film has been brought to Hindi speaking audiences: the multi-language film. Strictly speaking it is not new for a Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam or Kannad film to be brought across, dubbed and re-presented for a Hindi audience and similar versions made for regional tongues as necessary. It is also not new for a film to be shot in multiple languages to be distributed between the south Indian industries. However, the concept of shooting a film for North and South audiences is certainly new for Bollywood. Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and AA Films brings the latest in this new genre Kgf: Chapter 1. This is all action, all power starring Kannad ‘Rocking Star’ Yash as Mumbai ka Don Rocky Bhai.

Bollywood has always loved its film stories inspired by true life. When you decide to tell the story of a cricket legend using Bollywood stars you can hardly go wrong. Azhar which is based on the life of an outstanding cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, shows not just his professional journey but also his personal life. Nargis Fakhri who will essay the role of Sangeeta Bijlani in the film ‘Azhar’ has set the glamour quotient a notch higher with her song Oye Oye. Nargis is setting the stage on fire in the revised version of the iconic 90’s hit. Considering that Sangeeta was one of the most popular starts of her time and Tridev being one of her most popular movies, it is not a surprise that this iconic number was chosen to be recreated. Though the set is quite different from its 90s counterpart, the ‘Gajar’ which means the ‘Clock’ is used in both the songs.

Not many know but the title ‘Villain’ did not originally belong to Balaji. While the film was under production, the title was being used provisionally.
However director Mohit Suri, the writers and producers (Balaji) were extremely keen to have that title for their Sidharth Malhotra-Riteish Deshmukh-Shraddha Kapoor starrer as they felt that it was extremely powerful and relevant to the subject.
The title was the ownership of yesteryear’s film maker Rajiv Rai, known for blockbusters like ‘Tridev’, ‘Mohra’ and ‘Gupt’. When Balaji requested him recently, he obliged.
Confirms Tanuj Garg, CEO – Balaji Motion Pictures, “Rajiv (Rai) is a dear friend. When I requested him for the title, he consented immediately. He wasn’t planning to produce or direct any film with the title and gave it to us.”
‘Ek Villain’ releases in cinemas worldwide on June 27.

Balaji’s forthcoming The Dirty Picture is deep into its shooting schedule and they have recently shot a song sequence. Picturised on Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah the track was shot at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City.
For the sensational song sequence director Milan Luthria recently ordered two truckloads of oranges. Why? Well, in true South style, over a thousand oranges were rolled down a hillside as the actors danced to choreographer Pony Verma’s matkas and jhatkas — reminiscent of the erstwhile Jeetendra-starrer Himmatwala!
In The Dirty Picture, Naseer, who plays a South-Indian superstar, consented to dancing after 20 years, as it was in line with the requirements of his character. He was last seen dancing with Sonam in Rajiv Rai’s smash hit, Tridev. We know we can’t wait to see his moves!

At the age of 61, actor Naseeruddin Shah is preparing himself for his first item number. The veteran will be attending extensive workshops to perfect his dance performance in director Hriday Shetty’s Chaalis Chauraasi. “Yes, I have agreed to do the item number and I’m pretty excited about the moves. Let’s see if people enjoy the jig as much as I do,” says Shah, who last shook a leg to Tirchi topi wale… in Tridev (1989) and more recently in Ishqiya alongside Vidya Balan. “Contrary to what people may feel, I didn’t have to cajole him into doing the number,” ...

Ashish Chowdhry, Sanjay Dutt & Mallika Sherawat in Double Dhamaka
After Dum Maaro Dum, Laila O Laila & Raat Akeli Hain, the hit track from Tridev, Oye Oye gets remixed for ‘Double Dhamaal’
Perhaps music directors Kalyanji-Anandji were present in the audience when singer Gloria Estefan performed Oye Oye for her 1987 hit Rhythm Is Gonna Get You. The tune was plagiarized by the musical duo in the 1989 film Tridev and remains a memorable hit till date.
Following the current trend of remaking old hits, makers of Double Dhamaal have bought the rights of Oye Oye from T-Series (No, not from Gloria Estafan, silly!) and have supposedly given it a new spin.
The remix has been done by music director Anand Raj Anand and interestingly enough, Ganesh Acharya who was a backing dancer in the original song (Again, not in the Gloria Estafan version) has choreographed the track.
