Discovery has lined-up two days of “Mythbusters” episodes to air across two networks in tribute to host Grant Imahara, who died earlier this week of a brain aneurysm at the age of 49.
Imahara was part of the “Mythbusters” team for nearly 10 years, working alongside lead hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman and his Build Team cohorts Kari Byron and Tori Belleci. They put popular myths to the test using science and engineering. The episodes airing on Discovery and Science Channel this Friday and Saturday will feature some of Imahara’s favorite “Mythbusters” moments, the network said.
Discovery will also re-air Imahara’s turn as host of “Killer Robots: Robo Games 2011,” which documented the International Robogames Competition, as well as an episode of his Netflix series “White Rabbit Project,” which he co-hosted with Byron and Belleci.

Martin Bregman, producer of Al Pacino films “Serpico,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Scarface” and “Sea of Love,” died Saturday. He was 92.
His wife Cornelia told NBC 4 he died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
As producer of “Dog Day Afternoon,” he shared a best picture nomination in 1976.
Bregman, who discovered Pacino in an Off Broadway play, was the personal and business manager not only for Pacino and Alan Alda but also at various times for Barbra Streisand, Woody Allen, Faye Dunaway, Candice Bergen and Bette Midler.
Bregman nurtured Pacino as the actor built his stage and then his film career, helping Pacino land his first starring role in a feature, 1971’s “Panic in Needle Park,” for which the actor beat out Robert De Niro.
Building film projects around the young Pacino, Bergman produced his first films in 1973’s “Serpico” and 1975’s “Dog Day Afternoon,” both memorably starring the actor. The two would later reteam for 1983’s “Scarface,...

The 17th annual Strategic Partners co-production/co-financing market united renowned producers, financiers, broadcasters, distributors, aggregators and agency representatives all under one roof with exciting, measurable results.
On the heels of one-on-one meetings, innovative keynote addresses and panels – several themes resonated with the esteemed delegates. With 2014 - 2015 ushering in a two-year spotlight on Ibero-America and the U.S.A, a strong drive to develop and nurture long-lasting business relationships was greatly emphasized. The very latest in content financing, complex co-productions case studies, the rise of digital distribution and trends in the evolution of ‘digital first’ series, among many other hot topics, were intricately examined and discussed at the event, which took place September 11 - 14 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Strategic Partners is proud to be supported by important Canadian partners such as Telefilm Canada, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Film & Creative Industries Nova Scotia, Canada Media Fund, and Canadian Media Production Association, among others.
During this year’s Strategic Partners, it was announced that two talented Canadian producers have been selected to participate in the inaugural project exchange program with Brazil’s RioContentMarket and Mexico’s Los Cabos International Film Festival. Quebec producer Jeremy Spry of Muse Entertainment Enterprises has been chosen by the Brazilian TV Producers Association to attend RioContentMarket in Brazil in February 2015 with his TV Series Time Snail. Ontario producer Byron A. Martin of Byron A. Martin Productions has been selected to attend the Los Cabos International Film Festival in November 2014 with his feature film Wolverine Hotel. The Canadian Media Production Association sponsors this co-production initiative.
“Strategic Partners 2014 was such a thrilling meeting of the minds. The buzz in the room for the entire three days was truly palpable,” said Director of Strategic Partners, Laura Mackenzie. “It was particularly exciting to witness the relationships that evolved over the course of the event, the deals discussed and soon to be published, and to announce the wonderful news that Jeremy Spry and Byron Martin have been selected for our inaugural project exchange program. They both embody the world class talent we have here in Canada and the projects they have in development are impressive and perfectly suited for co-production.”
Strategic Partners is often the catalyst for many production success stories. In 2013, producers Tom Spriggs and William Borthwick of the Los Angeles and London-based Face Films brought a feature project at that time referred to as The Untitled Yellowstone Project to Strategic Partners, where they met Fred Fuchs and eventually Tyler Levine. As a result of these meetings, a collaboration was solidified and the team went into production six months later. The project is currently in postproduction under the name Population Zero.
“It’s pretty obvious I am a fan of Strategic Partners because bluntly... it works! I wasn't sure what to expect first time around but it far exceeded my expectations,” said Spriggs. “Being able to combine a social aspect with focused one on one meetings works very well. Then to add on panels and group discussions that are filled with people that are basically experts in their perspective fields in entertainment, makes Strategic Partners really stand out.”
Producer Neil Tabatznik of Canada’s Blue Ice Group had a productive and measurably successful experience at Strategic Partners in both 2013 and 2014, and he’s thrilled with the results. “The event is warm, friendly and intimate, but real business is conducted within its framework,” said Tabatznik. “Our company has contracted 16 million dollars of business over our participation in this event over the past two years.”
Each year, top Canadian and international industry players, including producers, investors, sales agents, funding agencies, broadcasters, and distributors are selected to attend Strategic Partners. Offering over 1,000 pre-scheduled 1-2-1 meetings, co-production focused roundtable sessions, cutting edge panels, visionary keynote speakers, and screenings and receptions – Strategic Partners is a convergence of talent and innovation, producing tangible results.

A 2012 winner of production grants from both the Hot Docs Blue Ice Group Documentary Fund, as well as the Sundance Institute's Documentary Film Program and Fund (Dfp), is the currently in development Ghana-set feature documentary, Bukom Fighter, from director Makafui Zimrani. The project's synopsis reads: A nine year old boy from a shanty town in Ghana tries to create hope for himself using the only resource at his disposal; the power of his fists. From the looks of the trailer, and all I've read about this film, I couldn't help but make connections to similar struggles African American boys experience here in the USA, and how they get over...

Indie rockers Shout Out Louds have released “Blue Ice,” their first new piece of music in three years, in an extremely limited-edition 7-inch single that plays on, well, ice. There are only 10 kits capable of producing the record, each of which comes with a mold and a bottle of water to freeze in that mold to make an ice-based record. “Blue Ice” is the first single off the group's upcoming, as-yet-untitled, full-length album—an album that hopefully will not also be exclusively distributed via something that melts and has the potential to ruin electronics. The 'Modern Family' actress looked totally flirty at the 'Teen Vogue' 10th Anniversary young Hollywood party on September 27 in Beverly Hills, California. Sarah Hyland, 21 has been wearing her hair in pretty face-framing tendrils lately: and we love the look! See how to score her style for yourself! To get Sarah's tight ringlets, try a thin barreled curling wand like Hot Tools Blue Ice Titanium 3/4 Inch Curling Iron. Wrap small sections tightly around this clip-less curler and pull down to release for tight, bouncy ringlets. For Sarah's shiny berry lips, try a moisturizing lip color like Korres Raspberry Antioxidant Liquid Lipstick in Berry. This formula will deliver smooth, creamy color along with a burst of cooling moisture. Well we're back again with the bumper crop of must-have DVDs and Blu-rays for the month of May – from historic Italian epics to underground American sensations to a chilly, expressionistic film noir to movies where Raquel Welch plays a Vegas showgirl fleeing a murderer – we’ve got them all hear for you. So look on below to see what's worth your money this month....
"1900" (1976) Blu-ray
Why You Should Care: At the time of its release, Bernardo Bertolucci's historical epic was said to be the most expensive (requiring the financial commitment of three major studios – 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and United Artists) and ambitious ever mounted in Italy. It's a tale of two friends (played by Robert De Niro and Gerard Depardieu), born on the same day at the dawn of the 20th century, and the way that their lives crisscross, intersect, and diverge wildly over the rocky course of history.

In story 1, a Db is found on a subway track, without any wallet or keys. There's no evidence of a struggle. Rail electrocutions are foot to foot, here Mac (Gary Sinise) says it's hand to foot. Mac asks why the kid crossed the rail and Stella (Melina Kanakaredes) as always has a reply, "To get to the other side." Mac: "One way or another." Hawkes (Hill Harper) hasn't officially identified him yet and refers to "slick" shins. The Db was covered with a hydrophobic substance and there was presence of anti-mortum bruising. Cod was ventricular defibrilation. Underwent "locking on" phenomena which is the result of AC current. The subway runs on DC and has the opposite effect on the muscle tissue. The burns are post mortum. Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) admires a painting in a gallery, in story 2. Kylie (Kelly Hu) asks "You like what you see Messer?" Leo Whitfield, ( Sean Vincent Biggins...

The Bloor Cinema (Photo by Christopher Paulin)
It’s the end of an era for the historic Bloor Cinema, and the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Annex rep theatre. Earlier today, Hot Docs announced that it has entered into a joint venture with Blue Ice Film to manage and program the theatre beginning this Fall. The group also plans to revitalize the space by making much needed upgrades to the Bloor’s technical equipment; that means new projectors, a new sound system, new seating and more. A major overhaul of the lobby and the façade are also in the works.
Given the status of Hot Docs as one of the world’s largest documentary film festivals, it should come as no surprise that theatre plans to screen primarily documentary films when it re-opens. Hot Docs has called the Bloor Cinema home for more than 12 years, so in...

Exclusive: Echo Lake Entertainment president Doug Mankoff and Blue Ice Entertainment's Steven Silver and Neil Tabatznik have unveiled Blue Lake Entertainment, a fund to finance films with budget $10 million and higher. The 8-figure fund is backed by private investors in the Us and Canada and will invest in up to four films per year. The emphasis is on commercial fare with bankable directors and casts. Blue Lake will have a non-exclusive relationship with Glen Basner's FilmNation, which will handle foreign sales on select titles. Blue Lake's first investment is La Piel Que Habito, the Pedro Almodovar-directed film which just wrapped and has Sony Pictures Classics aboard for domestic distribution. FilmNation is selling foreign on that film. "The relationship with FilmNation is critical in helping Blue Lake identify and sensibly invest in commercially viable films," Echo Lake president Doug Mankoff said. "While our first picture is a high-end specialty film,...

Since Hpnotiq’s release party a few years ago, a popular drink rising up on the club scene has been the Incredible Hulk. Created in Sean Combs’ New York restaurant, Justin’s, this became one of the first popular superhero inspired drinks. Years ago, no one ever would have uttered the names of comic book characters or sci-fi movies in a popular nightlife hotspot. It was just unheard of. But now with the acceptance of geek culture becoming mainstream, these kinds of drinks are on the rise.
