There’s little doubt that Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky, has left an indelible mark on horror culture. One of the few 1980s slashers to still dot the horror landscape in 2024, the killer doll has a multi-media empire worth exploring. Coming to Shudder on November 1, Doc of Chucky provides some big stories from those who made the movies. Director Thommy Hutson — the writer of Crystal Lake Memories and Never Sleep Again — gives the Don Mancini films the full-scale treatment he gave the previous entries of his pseudo-trilogy. With over five hours of footage, Doc of Chucky proves as expansive as ever.

Not to give you a fright head of Halloween, but an alarming number of fan-favorite movies will be leaving Netflix by the end of October 2024. We all know that movies tend to come and go on Netflix, so even though a long list of movies are departing Netflix this month, the cycle will continue and some might even pop back up in future months.
Last month saw the departures of the Divergent and Fifty Shades of Grey movies, along with beloved movies like A Walk to Remember and The Breakfast Club. This month, as many hit movies are leaving Netflix, too. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Crazy Rich Asians, It Follows, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and more have already left with lots more still to leave.

As the stars of Chucky mourn the Syfy show’s death, they have faith in Damballa that the horror franchise will soon be resurrected.
Following Friday’s news that the Child’s Play spin-off series will end after three seasons, creator Don Mancini continued to tease the killer doll’s onscreen future amid a #RenewChucky fan campaign as he and the show’s stars reacted to its cancelation.
“He’LL Be Back,” wrote Mancini on X, sharing Deadline’s previous report. “I have so much love for our amazing fans. Your #RenewChucky campaign meant the world to me during a very difficult time. Chucky says to tell all of you, quoting himself: ‘See ya real soon.'”
Jennifer Tilly, who reprised her role from the films as Tiffany Valentine (and herself) for the series, also shared her reaction on the platform. “So sad to announce that after three wonderful seasons the...

Fans of the comedy horror Bodies Bodies Bodies will be disappointed to learn that the movie will leave Netflix on Sept. 19, 2024. But the good news is that a long list of horror comedies is available on the streaming service to fill the void. And don't miss this year's Netflix & Chills lineup.
Bodies Bodies Bodies and other horror comedies are a unique subgenre of horror that mixes slasher elements with absurd comedic ones. Mixing comedy with horror is nothing new, as Edgar Allan Poe and other writers often combined the two in their works.
Bride of Chucky
Bride of Chucky is the fourth installment of the Child's Play franchise, written by creator Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, also known for Freddy vs. Jason (2003). Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, with Jennifer Tilly portraying Tiffany Valentine, a role she would reprise in several other installments of the franchise.

Brad Dourif has had an incredible acting career that stretches back more than fifty years – and back in the early days of that career, he even earned a “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Over a decade later, he started playing the role he is best known for, that of Charles Lee Ray, a.k.a. Chucky, a serial killer who uses voodoo to transfer his soul into the body of a doll. Dourif is now 74 years old, so when we hear that he has decided to retire from acting, it’s totally understandable… but while talking about his retirement, Dourif has also made sure to assure fans that his days of Chucky are not over. He will still continue to work on any Chucky projects that might come up.

Tom Holland's 1988 film "Child's Play" was initially meant to be a satire of the commercial madness that swept the world when Cabbage Patch Kids proliferated through the marketplace a few years before. What if, "Child's Play" asked, the soul of a vicious serial killer possessed your ultra-hot Christmas toy? The result was a genuinely creepy supernatural thriller about a young boy named Andy (Alex Vincent) his single mom (Catherine Hicks) and the mysterious Good Guy doll who likely contains the personality of Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray (Brad Dourif), known to the police as the Lakeshore Strangler.
Like many of the slasher films of the 1980s, "Child's Play" was extensively sequelized. The mythos of Chucky the killer doll expanded, leading to strange byzantine rules of voodoo magic (Chucky uses a magical amulet and magic spells to shunt his soul into a doll body), as well as inter-doll mating, and a lot of queerness.

Happy birthday to our favorite beautiful bouncing killer baby boy! Bride of Chucky turned 25 in October. So Happy birthday, Chucky! Happy birthday, Tiffany! Happy birthday to my very favorite film in Don Mancini’s absolutely killer Child’s Play series: Bride of Chucky! It’s a film that I personally find to be a ton of fun. The kills are great, the humor is on point, and it’s just a joy to watch from start to finish. But Bride of Chucky also marks an important turning point in the trajectory of the Child’s Play franchise.
After Child’s Play 3 was released in 1991, it seemed as though the series had run its course. Chucky had terrorized Andy through multiple films, followed him to a foster home and again to military school, only to be vanquished time and time again before he was able to transfer his soul to another human body.

Fake Blood is a delicious curiousity: it’s a documentary about director Rob Grant and his frequent collaborator Mike Kovac, who also co-writes, exploring their responsibility in depicting cinematic violence.
Or at least that’s how it starts.
Over time the film slowly morphs into something different. As the two men embark on a mission to “experience” the kinds of violence depicted in their low budget films, they slowly become immersed in a narrative of their own making involving a “real-life” murderer named “John.”
Grant is well known in indie horror circles. In addition to directing under-the-radar gem Harpoon, he’s the editor of films like Knuckleball and this year’s Influencer.

As we all know, the first half of the 90s could often be a scary time for the horror genre. Of course, there were more than a few stand-outs, but for the most part the slasher overload of the 80s had made the general audience rather weary of the genre – it was left to the hardcore fanatics to seek out the real gems. Even horror’s superstars weren’t pulling in the public anymore, some of them seriously slumming it in movies that were practically made to be sent direct-to-video.

Look who’s stalking! You guessed it: Chucky. In August of 1991, the foul-mouthed Good Guy returned less than a year after the release of Child’s Play 2. Nine months! So, why the quick turnaround? That’s a good question, and one the Halloweenies spend plenty of time with as they continue their coverage of the franchise with Child’s Play 3.

As the daughter of Chucky franchise special effects artist Tony Gardner, director Kyra Elise Gardner offers a unique perspective on the killer doll’s lasting impact in the Screambox Original documentary Living with Chucky.

What if your imaginary friend was a killer from a slasher film? Set in Scotland in 1994, the new comic book series The Nasty answers this compelling question with blood-splattered results as it follows 18-year-old Graeme “Thumper” Connell, who enjoys watching notorious "video nasties" with his friends in The Murder Club, until one night when they come across a cursed videotape that just might bring its cinematic nightmares to lethal life.
With the first issue of The Nasty coming out on April 5th from Vault Comics, we caught up with writer John Lees and artist Adam Cahoon (who contributed art in the first two issues before stepping in as the main illustrator in issue #3) to discuss the making of The Nasty, including exploring how horror can be comforting, taking a subversive approach to the concept of imaginary friends, and creating their own "video nasties" for this series!

Sometimes when a horror franchise is really on a roll, we’ll get sequels that are just one year apart from each other. But the waiting period between Child’s Play 2 and the movie we’re looking at in the new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, Child’s Play 3 (watch it Here) was even shorter than a year. Plot: Authors Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins look back at the making of all seven films in the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise.
Review: For the last ten years or so, author Dustin McNeill appears to have dedicated his life to crafting “scary good books on scary good movies”. He has written two books on the Phantasm franchise, detailed Freddy vs. Jason’s long journey through development hell, covered the Halloween franchise (up to the 2018 film), and then wrote a book about more than twenty Halloween movie scripts and pitches that never made it into production. Along the way, he even wrote a book about the Jaws ride. For the Halloween books – Taking Shape and Taking Shape II – McNeill had Travis Mullins as a co-writer. Now McNeill and Mullins have turned their attention to another one of the horror genre’s most popular franchises: the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise. With their...

Plot: A year after seemingly defeating their nemesis Chucky, “3 Amigos” Jake, Devon, and Lexy begin receiving mysterious, threatening calls from an all-too-familiar-sounding enemy.
Review: After years of mediocre sequels and a poorly received remake, Don Mancini’s Child’s Play franchise moved to the small screen last year with Chucky. A fun, over-the-top season that blended gory kills with some origin for Charles Lee Ray, Chucky was a cross-network hit that gained a dedicated following thanks to simultaneous airings on both USA and SyFy as well as the well-received return of Brad Dourif as the possessed Good Guy doll. With appearances from characters from throughout the franchise, Chucky ended its first season with a bang and set up the second to be even bigger and more deadly. Having seen the first two episodes, Chucky’s second season continues the style and humor of last year’s run while changing up the setting to keep things fresh.

Tom Holland's 1988 film "Child's Play" was, at its heart, an indictment of an ever-bloating Christmastime consumption frenzy. Between 1983 and 1986, Coleco's Cabbage Patch Kids were the most in-demand toy of the season, and stories were regularly written about the dolls' success and the riots caused by parents trying to buy them. Embittered by the frenzy, "Child's Play" screenwriters Don Mancini, John Lafia, and Holland wrote a movie about the hottest Christmas toy of the season -- in their script, an electronic talking interactive doll called a Good Guy -- coming to life and committing murder. The conceit was that a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) was mortally wounded when fleeing a pursuing cop (Chris Sarandon). With his dying breaths, he chanted a magical spell and shunted his soul into a nearby Good Guy doll. The doll comes into the possession of the young Andy (Alex Vincent) and...

After a fun social media post Thursday on New Line Cinema’s official account, speculation ran rampant that there would be incoming news about a future entry in the “Friday the 13th” franchise. Unfortunately, TheWrap has learned that there are no such plans (at least not right now). And, in fact, the social media post was just for fun.
To explain: Thursday, New Line Cinema’s Instagram account posted a photo of an iPhone home screen (which has now been deleted) with an incoming message from “Jason Voorhees.” The accompanying caption read: “Uh oh. What do you think Jason Voorhees wants?!” This, of course, sent the internet into a frenzy. The common refrain was that New Line must be announcing a new “Friday the 13th” project right away. But we have confirmed that this isn’t true. It was just a fun post. And quite frankly, it might not even...

Living With Chucky begins as a familiar horror documentary that assembles a variety of notable genre veterans to examine a prominent horror franchise. This one celebrates the iconic killer doll and the Child’s Play franchise. But Living With Chucky quickly diverges from the pack as a unique angle emerges. It’s not just a documentary that reflects upon the franchise’s legacy; it celebrates the families that the killer doll has forged and bonded together.
Director Kyra Gardner, who co-wrote with Jason Strickland, adds visual flair to her documentary. Animated opening credits, stitching of Good Guy doll clothing, and molds of Chucky parts getting filled add interest and break up the conventional talking head format. A collection of franchise tapes sits above a Vcr. Hitting play on each one ushers in a discussion on its respective film.
The talking heads are an eclectic bunch, not all of them an obvious selection.

After seven films and an ill-advised reboot, Chucky is set to deploy a new torrent of neighborhood carnage. The killer doll has gone through several reinventions over the years, but now that he’s back in the hands of original creator Don Mancini, he’ll find yet another unsuspecting family to terrorize in his very own TV series.
Chucky has certainly navigated a wild path to the small screen. The Child’s Play franchise started out playing the character straight by charting his efforts to get his murderous psychological hooks into innocent little Andy Barclay, but films one through three were also embracing a slasher genre that appeared to be on its last legs.
Even Mancini thought he may have reached the end of the road with 1991’s Child’s Play 3, but when the horror game changed with Wes Craven’s meta movie Scream in the late-‘90s, Mancini suddenly...

Chucky, the upcoming spinoff series of the venerable Child’s Play horror franchise, is set to bring the terror of a homicidal, serial-killer-spirit-inhabited doll to a new medium and a new generation. However, don’t you dare call it a “reboot,” since the series, like the film franchise, remains the mutilating manifestation of creator Don Mancini, who is unambiguously touting the television show as a continuation of his cinematic continuity. Moreover, the creator reveals that plans for even more films—in conjunction with the show—are also in the works. In other words, brace yourselves for the Chucky Universe!
“An evil too great to play on just one network,” reads the tagline in the new teaser trailer for Chucky, which hypes a series designed for a deluge of doll-dealt deaths, set for a dual network run—under the NBCUniversal umbrella—this fall on USA Network and Syfy. Surprisingly enough, Mancini openly expresses,...

Syfy’s recently trailer-teased Chucky television series just made a move that will likely assuage skeptical fans of the classic Child’s Play horror film franchise, the return of the murderer-possessed-doll’s definitive voice actor, Brad Dourif.
Indeed, the Child’s Play band is getting back together, with star Dourif now secured, joined by creator Don Mancini and perennial producer David Kirschner to tackle a most intriguing small screen proposition with Chucky. The series, which manifests under the NBCU umbrella via Universal Studio Group’s Universal Content Productions, will enjoy the platform of two major cable channels in corporate cousins Syfy and USA Network; an advantageous position that just improved, having secured the sinister cackle and brutal one-liners of Dourif’s voice role, which he’s thus-far fielded for seven of the franchise films.

HBO Max launched on May 27th and has been off to a pretty good start with well over 10,000 hours worth of content on the service from day one. If you’re a horror fan, you may be excited to hear that a fairly decent portion of those 10,000 hours include some of the biggest and most popular horror films of all time. So, if you haven’t subscribed yet, now might just be the time to do so.
Do you like Steven Spielberg and massive sharks eating people? If so, you’ll be delighted to hear that you can catch the entire Jaws franchise – which spans four films – on HBO Max right away. If you haven’t ever seen them, now’s a great opportunity to take a trip back in time to catch up on what was arguably the very first blockbuster movie series.

We have the highlights of what's coming and going from HBO Now and HBO Go in March 2020.
March 2020 is an extremely HBO month for HBO.
What we mean by that is that the list of new releases for the month contain a lot of the hallmarks of the HBO brand that the network has built over the years. There is the third season of an expensive and popular sci-fi series with Westworld season 3 premiering on March 15. Then there's also the requisite new David Simon series when Philip Roth adaptation The Plot Against America premieres on March 16.
If that weren't enough, March 2020 sees the arrival of a big ticket superhero movie with X-Men: Dark Phoenix arriving on March 21. It's not a good big ticket superhero movie, but still! You may want to rewatch it all the same. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is a sort of superhero movie itself.

A little over a year after the release, and success, of The Conjuring, Warner Bros. and New Line bring horror fans Annabelle, a film that acts as a spin-off and a prequel to the aforementioned James Wan-directed movie.
John Leonetti is in the director's seat. He served as the director of photography on many of Wan's films; he even shot Child's Play 3. Recently, I sat down with Leonett and Annabelle cast members Ward Horton, Annabelle Wallis and Alfre Woodard. Leonetti opens up about how he wanted to approach the film and how he maintained discussions with Wan in order to keep the film feeling like it was within the world of The Conjuring. The actors, meanwhile, talk about their time working in the horror film. Woodard, meanwhile, gets pretty candid when she discusses her encounter and handling of the Annabelle doll.

Laurence Anyways I do have a copy of this one and it's a film that just might make my top ten this year. I saw it at the Cannes Film Festival last year and it served as my introduction to writer/director Xavier Dolan and having now seen all four of his feature films I'd definitely say this is his best. I really hope more people find the opportunity to see not only this film, but everything else he has to offer.
