The woman in question is Abi, played by Jessica Brown Findlay, who later co-starred in the Peacock adaptation of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World," one of the great dystopian novels. Now that the Big 5 networks have unveiled their new fall shows (with a few midseason offerings thrown in), we can get down to really investing in what we’re going to see this year. But first, let’s address an issue that we’re sure many viewers have when it comes to getting excited about new shows: really awful titles.
What’s in a name? Well, if you ask “Trophy Wife,” everything. The critically acclaimed series didn’t feel like the usual sitcom fare. Its humor was smart, ironic and a little bit daffy, and the performances were delightful and nuanced. Sadly, during its entire 22 episodes, it couldn’t ever escape bubble status, and in the end, really lame marketing tactics was its downfall. The show wasn’t about a trophy wife at all, and in fact, that title undermined its strong, feminist voice. The show never saw a Season...

Katsuhiro Otomo’s magnum opus, based on his own manga that stretches for more than 2000 pages, is one of the landmarks of the anime genre, being universally acclaimed and having garnered a large cult following. The film is the epitome of post-apocalypse, one of the genre’s most cherished themes. Furthermore, the permeating violence, the not-so-obvious messages, and the complex story established the fact that anime were not only addressed to children and young teenagers, creating in the process a completely new market for the category.

Bella Swan and Edward Cullen may live forever in the supposed bliss of a deathless union, but the genre they jumpstarted has proven to be decidedly mortal. It was only a few short years ago that the blitz of post-Potter Ya adaptations — characterized by dystopian settings, a fetish for the supernatural, and a buffet of genetically indistinguishable British boys — was standing toe-to-toe with superhero movies atop the Hollywood food chain. But the times they are a changin', fluctuating like the hormones of their target demographic.

With just over a month before the latest James Bond installment Spectre opens, the final trailer for the film has been released. After a series of backstory-heavy teasers and commercials that merely hinted at the fight between Daniel Craig's James Bond and Christoph Waltz's Franz Oberhauser – with the villain often shrouded in darkness – the final trailer finds Oberhauser stepping out of the shadows for a confrontation between the two leads.
"Why did you come?" Oberhauser asks Bond in a sunlit hallway. "I came here to kill you," Bond admits,...

"Times Square," the latest single from Destroyer's upcoming album Poison Season, has a trippy new stop-motion video. It feels like hitting a bowl with Wallace and Gromit. As singer-songwriter Dan Bejar croons to the screen, small, pot-smoking creatures made of moss, a chewing-gum monster, and a human brain with googly eyes dance laconically. Despite the song's title, New York's iconic hub of tourists and taxis barely appears in the video. The playful opening guitar recalls the Flaming Lips' "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots," but the mix of sultry-sad saxophones, jangly pianos, and Bejar's singular voice is completely Destroyer. "The writing on the wall / Isn't writing at all / Just forces of nature / In love with the weather station."...

Agents of Shield, Season 2, Episode 16: “Afterlife”
Written by Craig Titley
Directed by Kevin Hooks
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
After Bobbi and Gonzalez’s big hero moment and Skye’s escape in “One Door Closes”, “Afterlife” is set up to be a bit of a let-down, or at least a slowdown by comparison. There are plenty of good hero moments, like the return of Deathlok, and Fitz-Simmons pulling the wool over Bobbi’s eyes. Even with these moments, the episode’s focus on Skye slows everything down to introduce Afterlife and fit in lots of exposition from Lincoln, played by guest star Luke Mitchell (The Tomorrow People).
It is difficult to gauge Mitchell’s performance as Lincoln based only on “Afterlife”, because as Skye’s guide in this world, most of his dialogue is exposition. The large majority of his scenes with Skye are just Skye walking...

Plot:
When a Woman is found dead with the alien writing carved into her body, Coulson goes back into the Memory Machine to find his lost memories of Tahiti and figure out who it’s other patients were. Meanwhile May leads Trip, Bobbi and Hunter as they close in on Ward.
Verdict:
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. really has come leaps and bounds in the last seven episodes compared to what they achieved in twenty two episodes during it’s previous season (in which the last several were improvements on what came before them), with ‘The Writing on the Wall’ showing just how confident and exciting this series has become in such a short span of time.

We're not entirely sure of this yet, but if you notice the writing/scrawlings on the floor in the image above, the look quite similar to "The Writing On The Wall" from Marvel's hit TV show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Now it's been rumored that the Inhumans will appear on the show, and even more recently speculated that the hidden city on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may in fact be Attilan, so could we see the team on the small screen before Marvel's film hits theaters? It's a small chance, but it could happen. Be sure to leave your thoughts, theories, and speculations in the usual place, and don't miss Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s tonight and the mid-season finale next week at 9/8c! Agents Of Shield renews its focus on the series' main mystery, and is all the better for it. Here's James' review...

2.8 The Things We Bury
Having uncovered the truth about the alien writing in the previous episode, Shield is taking the initiative to track down the city it points at. Good stuff. Straight in with the plot. Oh, they've done it already? That was fast.
In case it wasn't clear, I'm finding the pacing on Shield a little odd. Specifically, the shortness of the subplots. Fitz has Simmons in his head, but before they can explore that idea in any depth, it's over. Simmons has infiltrated Hydra, but before they can tell any stories within that status quo, it's over. Ward's brother turns up in the previously-unmentioned position of senator, and before they can explore it, he's dead. The lack of a status quo makes episodes unpredictable,...

2.7 The Writing On The Wall
Just as you were getting comfortable with Agents Of Shield being an entertaining and well-made piece of television - along comes this. An episode so disjointed and randomly constructed that it could've come right out of season one. But what is it that makes it feel that way?
It's possible that's just the content of the story. Rather than spend too long dragging out the mystery of the automatic writing that's been plaguing Coulson for the last few episodes, AoS finally solves it in this episode. Unfortunately, to get to the root of it, the show has to return to some of last season's most ill-judged plotlines and put its own ones effectively on hold in the meantime. The Inhumans movie won’t be out until 2018, but we may possibly be seeing Marvel’s super-powered oddities sooner than expected. The storyline from Agents of Shield is dropping mammoth-sized hints regarding the Inhumans. We look at the reasons why we think the Inhumans will pop up on TV before the film hits theaters.
After Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige announced that there would be an Inhumans movie coming out on November 2, 2018, he added a teasing a caveat; “You may find out where they fit into the McU sooner than you think.” Since Feige has mentioned his love for Inhumans characters several times, it’s not far-fetched to think we may see the people of Attilan prior to the film. Could their first live-action appearance be on an upcoming episode of Agents of Shield?

This week's horror story of an episode began with the brutal murder of onetime S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Rebecca Stephens, whose killer marked the occasion by carving a bunch of alien symbols into her body with a knife. (According to a corpse analysis conducted by Simmons, the killer, who was obsessed with "completing the work," didn't stop slicing into his victim until "long after she was dead." Who says science isn't fun?!)Anyone looking for a little comic relief amid the grotesqueries of a knife-wielding serial killer didn't find it in the B plot, which took Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s extended Silence of the Lambs parallels to the next level. Grant Ward has finally been unleashed upon the world,...

A quick review of tonight's "Marvel's Agents of Shield" coming up just as soon as I have some Enya albums I've been hiding... "The Writing on the Wall" brought the arc of Coulson's incessant doodling to a welcome end, in an episode that was a good showcase for Clark Gregg — playing something deeper and more complex than the role usually affords him the opportunity to do — but also darker and/or more graphic than this show is probably meant to go. As Brian Van Holt's Sebastian carved up his victims, threatened Hank Thompson's family, and talked about cutting the information out of himself and others — on top of the return of all the horrific imagery from Project Tahiti — I began to find myself empathizing with Mac, who spent much of the hour wondering what kind of horror show he signed up for. "Shield" is obviously a show with life-and-death stakes,...

There are two upcoming movie musicals that, for a long time, I've wanted to make into motion pictures, should someone with money be willing to give me the funds to make them -- Into The Woods and The Last 5 Years. I'm both nervous and excited to see how directors Rob Marshall and Richard Lagravenese, respectfully, have interpreted the material I hold so close to my heart. I am especially nervous for Into The Woods, given Marshall's less than impressive track record. If someone is going to screw up something I cherish, it should be me. Of course, there are far more than two musicals I have a deep connection to. Some have already been made into films, like Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Les Miserables, but there is a vast collection of musicals I have thought could make fantastic films, but have never been made.

Apple has released a new ad called "Perspective," and it's really quite inspiring. It features a series of optical illusions inspired by the art of Felice Varini. The ad it self also could have been inspired by the music video for Ok Go's "The Writing on the Wall," which I also included for your viewing entertainment. The Apple video came along with the caption:
"Here's to those who have always seen things differently."
Apple recently unveiled their new iPhone 6, iWatch, payment system, and U2 record. I'm still not sold on that iWatch though. Check it out the ad!

On Thursday, June 12th, WWE released ten in-ring superstars. Anytime WWE decides to release talent en masse, it is met with considerable amounts of criticism from the WWE Universe as fans usually have particular under-pushed favorites who get the axe. However, unlike other firing sprees, this particular cycle was met with less hubbub and cynicism than others.
For once, WWE may have actually fired ten performers who were truly expendable. Thus, on levels of expendability, the ten releases will be ranked, and as the list shrinks, stars who at this moment have minimal potential worth to the company, but could have worth at a later time, will be highlighted as well.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood The Roundabout Theatre, NYC
I was a real fan of the 1985 Broadway production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood and have been eagerly looking forward to the Roundabout revival. For the most part, it did not disappoint.
Drood, of course, is based on Charles Dickens's final, unfinished novel.
To tell the story onstage, composer/author Rupert Holmes has devised an ingenious conceit. The show takes place in 1895 in a British music hall, called London's Music Hall Royale. The troupe is giving a performance of its new musical production based on the Dickens novel. It allows a delightful mix of a dark, Gothic, melodramatic story along with the boisterous comedy of the British music hall. The results are highly atmospheric and great fun. Since the Dickens novel was never finished, the ending of the show is determined by audience votes on several matters, another nifty idea from Holmes,...

Smarter people than me around Hollywood are asking an obvious question: why haven’t Lionsgate and Summit merged yet? The writing on the wall couldn’t be more clear. Lionsgate warned investors Monday of a $50 million loss this quarter from three strikes in a row at the box office, “Conan the Barbarian,” “Warrior” and “Abduction.” For a small company, that’s a painful blow. Also read: Lionsgate Telegraphs Big Loss From 'Abduction,' 'Warrior' and 'Conan' Meanwhile Summit’s new, non-Twilight film, “50/50,” is tracking at a dismal 57 percent total awareness on the eve of its premiere.
