The 1995 Hong Kong action comedy "Dou sing 2: Gai Tau Dou Sing" (aka "The Saint of Gamblers") is a spoof on the 1989 classic "Do San" (aka "God of Gamblers"). I stumbled upon this movie from writer and director Jing Wong for the first time here in 2022. And with it being a Hong Kong movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I opted to sit down and do so.
I saw that the movie was starring Eric Kot and Chingmy Yau, so I figured that chances were fairly good that I would be in for something worthwhile. And imagine my surprise when I saw that the movie also had Man-Tat Ng, Fui-On Shing and none other than Donnie Yen on the cast list.
The storyline in "Dou sing 2: Gai Tau Dou Sing" is good and enjoyable. Sure, this is an action comedy, so you are in for some over-the-top moments, but it actually works out nicely enough, and that is because the storyline works, but also because of some great performances.
I had some genuinely good laughs throughout the course of this 1995 action comedy, and it is definitely worth taking the time to sit down and watch it, especially if you enjoy spoof movies.
My rating of "Dou sing 2: Gai Tau Dou Sing" lands on a six out of ten stars.
