Mary J. Blige remembers the first time she got positive feedback for her acting. “When I was 7, I did a Christmas play in school, and the word from the other students and teachers was that me and this guy who was also in the play did very, very, very well,” she says. “It put something in me like, ‘Okay maybe I can really do this,’ and I always wanted to act [after] getting that feedback. At some point, I kind of left it alone and got into the music business.”
Choosing the music business early in her career has more than worked out for Blige. To date, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, won nine Grammys and is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in October. And she’s not stopping. It’s not often that Michael Strahan is speechless during Good Morning America, but a recent guest had him unsure how to react.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer was at a loss for words on the show recently as he and his colleagues interviewed Garcelle Beauvais.
Garcelle is among the stars of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and put Michael in the hot seat during the segment.
“Will we see your love life play out on the show? Because you definitely are protective of yourself,” GMA’s Lara Spencer asked Garcelle during the interview.
“Yeah, I mean, listen, you have to show as much as you can, and it’s hard to find someone who’s gonna fit that mold,” Garcelle said.
“So Michael, next season, will you come on?” she asked him as he became visibly nervous.

Whenever Jamie Foxx steps up to a microphone, one can expect to be entertained.
And that’s precisely what the Oscar and Grammy-winning superstar plans to do when he hits the road to discuss the circumstances around his sudden hospitalization nearly a year ago.
On Sunday afternoon, Foxx offered attendees of the African American Film Critics Association’s (Aafca) Special Achievement Awards luncheon a sneak peek at the tone of that material — a mix of heartfelt reflection with some top-notch zingers — while accepting Aafca’s Producers Award alongside his Foxxhole Productions partner Datari Turner.
2023 was a big year for the company thanks to the back-to-back successes of Netflix’s “They Cloned Tyrone” and Amazon’s “The Burial.” But while Foxxhole’s movies were shooting to the top of the streaming charts, Foxx was fighting for his life after suffering a medical emergency — the nature of which has not been disclosed.

After a pair of commercial disappointments in "Nixon" and "U-Turn," the two-time Oscar-winning director needed a hit, and John Logan's adrenalized football drama was roided-up with box-office potential. Once Stone landed Al Pacino for the role of the embattled head coach, every actor with an athletic physique wanted in.

Janine Sherman Barrois remembers being one of the only Black people in the writers’ room — or on set — when she began in television more than 20 years ago. At the time, she was grateful to get a seat at the table, given how few opportunities there were for Black women in Hollywood.
Fast-forward to 2022, and Sherman Barrois acknowledges there are more powerful Black women on camera and off (like her idols Shonda Rhimes and Oprah Winfrey). But there are still so many diverse creators who haven’t been empowered enough to get their big break.
That’s one of the missions behind her new production banner, Folding Chair Prods., which she has launched at Warner Bros. Television Group (where Sherman Barrois has held several overall deals since 2015). Nikita S. Adams, previously an agent at Paradigm Talent Agency and A3 Artists Agency, has been hired to serve as Folding Chair’s new head of television.

Garcelle Beauvais has been named the newest co-host of “The Real,” Variety has learned exclusively.
Beauvais is joining the syndicated talk show, following the departure of Tamera Mowry-Housley, who announced earlier this summer that she had decided to exit the show after six seasons.
The seventh season of “The Real” kicks off on Sept. 21. The panel will feature Beauvais, Loni Love, Jeannie Mai and Adrienne Houghton.
“I am thrilled to be joining the dynamic, bold and diverse women on the award-winning talk show ‘The Real,'” Beauvais said. “My love for pop culture and news, blended with my natural gift of gab, has always made me gravitate towards a talk show environment. It’s also exciting that it’s happening right after my amazing time joining ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.'”
