The fall is often perceived as the launch pad for awards season, as numerous prestige films compete for attention in the final weeks of the year. For much of the film community, however, it’s also the first major window into movies worth talking about next year. That’s because the Sundance Film Festival lineup typically drops in the middle of November, shaking up the holiday season with a mixture of familiar faces and newcomers who could make an impact in Park City this January. With programmers working in overdrive to complete the lineup in the coming weeks, and filmmakers praying to break through as the deadlines loom, we’ve cobbled together as much intel as we can for this extensive preview featuring dozens of promising titles that stand a good chance at making their way to Sundance this year. As usual, we’ve tried to avoid projects that are...

David Wenham on set of his directorial feature debut, 'Ellipsis'..
In the second part of his interview with If, David Wenham chats about his recent roles in 'Wake in Fright', 'In Like Flynn' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales'...
When David Wenham was offered the role of the police sergeant Jock Crawford in the miniseries Wake in Fright he initially recoiled at the idea.
As a passionate admirer of Canadian director Ted Kotcheff.s seminal 1971 movie based on the Kenneth Cook novel he thought the idea of a remake was ridiculous.
Wenham had watched the restored movie twice, at the Sydney Film Festival and at the Chauvel cinema, rating it as a visceral experience and an incredible piece of filmmaking.
However he changed his mind after reading Stephen M. Irwin.s script for the Network Ten two-parter directed by Kriv Stenders.

Shows that involve time travel have a lot of hurdles that need to be factored in, and Timeless confronts the challenge by attempting to simply avoid the problems altogether. It’s actually a good way to go, and the way the show builds its premise works better than anyone probably dared to hope.
The best element the show puts in play is that no one who actually does the time travelling wanted to go. Well, that’s only true of our heroes, but that’s all that matters. Time travel is forced upon them, and that puts us in the position of unique, and easier to develop, motivations for our characters.
Lucy Preston (Abigail Spencer – Suits, Rectify) is a mild-mannered, but respected, history professor who is pressed into service for the government when a time machine (secretly constructed by a private sector company) is stolen. Known criminal/terrorist Garcia Flynn...

Charlize Theron has a new movie in theaters this weekend, "Dark Places." It's actually been playing on DirecTV for almost two months, but now it's finally getting its no doubt contractually obligated big screen run. And while Theron gallantly stepped into the media fray for "Places" limited release, for many Imperator Furiosa is still on their minds. George Miller's critically acclaimed "Mad Max: Fury Road" still elicits passionate responses from fans, media and the director's peers in the movie industry three months after its release. One of the most talked about aspects of the film isn't Max himself (sorry Tom Hardy), but Theron's raw performance as Furiosa. The character has inspired many women (including a large contingent of teenage girls) and handicapped viewers as well. Theron sat down to talk about "Dark Places" earlier this month and beamed when asked about her reaction to "Mad Max." She says she...

"Men always say that as the defining compliment, don’t they? She’s a cool girl. Being the Cool Girl means I am a hot, brilliant, funny woman who adores football, poker, dirty jokes, and burping, who plays video games, drinks cheap beer, loves threesomes and anal sex, and jams hot dogs and hamburgers into her mouth like she’s hosting the world’s biggest culinary gang bang while somehow maintaining a size 2, because Cool Girls are above all hot. Hot and understanding. Cool Girls never get angry; they only smile in a chagrined, loving manner and let their men do whatever they want.

William "Billy" Flynn, who committed the 1990 murder for which Pamela Smart was convicted for conspiracy and sentenced to life without parole, has been moved to a medium-security prison as he approaches his own chance at parole next year. Flynn was transferred last week to a facility in Warren, Maine, as part of a work-release program following his second-degree murder conviction for shooting Gregg Smart, reports the Associated Press. In a much-publicized case that spawned a novel, TV dramatizations and the 1995 movie starring Nicole Kidman, To Die For, Pamela Smart, then 22, a New Hampshire school district media coordinator, was found guilty for manipulating Flynn,...

Lots of films are dedicated to, or in memory of someone. But it's not always clear why. We've been finding out...
Back when Breaking Bad returned for its final batch of episodes in August 2013, it had a dedication at the end of it. The card read 'Dedicated to our friend Kevin Cordasco'. As it turned out, Kevin Cordasco was a 16-year old who had been battling cancer for seven years, who had met both Bryan Cranston and Vince Gilligan. Cordasco died before he could ever get to see the episode dedicated to him.
I found this such a moving story, that it got me wondering about the dedications that appear on films, and what the story behind them was. After all, the dedications are there for a reason. What I uncovered was some funny stories, mainly extremely sad ones, and some extremely moving dedications.

Given his eventful life both on the screen and off, it's no surprise that Errol Flynn has already been portrayed by the likes of Jude Law ("The Aviator") and Guy Pearce ("Flynn"). But it looks like the screen legend is getting another go 'round on the big screen, and an equally capable actor is taking him on. Kevin Kline is set to play Flynn in "The Last Of Robin Hood." "Quinceanera" filmmakers Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland wrote the screenplay and will direct the story set in the last years of the actor's life, and his relationship with the very, very young 17 year-old Beverly Aadland whom he was rumored to have seduced at the age of 15. Both would feature in his last film "Cuban Rebel Girls." Why didn't anyone put a stop to this? Well, the girl's mother was a failed actress herself, living through her daughter, and even writing...

Who doesn’t love robots? Our metal friends have long been a source of inspiration, wonder and fear for filmmakers and audiences. Well, I’m glad Chris saw sense and went back to work, though I still think Lucas had nothing to apologize for. Yes, he should be sorry that Chris got his feelings hurt and that the customer was a homophobe, but Lucas himself didn’t do anything wrong. At least Lucas had the good sense to say that while he was sorry, he couldn’t promise not to screw up again or that something else like what went down might happen again.
At the end of the day though, I still think Chris overreacted by quitting. I understand that the show is sending the message that bigotry shouldn’t be tolerated. Obviously, it shouldn’t. However, life is gray, not black and white, and the answers just aren’t always so simple. In the real world you can't leave a job every time someone says something you don't like.

With the upcoming blu-ray & DVD release of the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Tangled“, Disney gave us the opportunity of a roundtable Q&A with the film’s directors. The film was directed by both Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, previous Disney films they have worked on are: Bolt, Brother Bear, Prep & Landing, Mulan, as well as Lilo & Stitch. I personally loved the movie (it was one of the top 3 films on my list for 2010), the story was fantastic, songs moving & memorable, Zachary Levi & Mandy Moore were outstanding, and let’s not forget how beautifully animated the film was… plus Pascal & Maximus were pretty awesome too.
