Plympton's 'Angels' has wings at ED
CANNES -- France-based ED Distribution will co-finance and handle French theatrical duties on Oscar-nominated animator Bill Plympton's next feature, Angels and Idiots. Writer-director Plympton (I Married a Strange Person), whose feature Hair High is up for sale at the Festival de Cannes, will be coloring and editing his hand-drawn work by computer for the first time. The dark, surreal Angels focuses on a man who repeatedly wakes up with wings and tries to get rid of them. Production just began on the $100,000 feature, which is slated for completion in a year. But ED's Fabrice Leroy said the company can wait for the acclaimed director's work. "Sometimes he can deliver the film a year late, but that's OK," Leroy said. "We want him to feel free to achieve the movie he wants to do."...
