This animated series was based on the book published by Random House in 1994, titled The Country Mouse and the City Mouse: Christmas Is Where the Heart Is, but the main characters were adapted for the Cinar series.
According to the old Cinar website, HBO, who previously produced The Country Mouse & the City Mouse: A Christmas Tale (1993), also provided development funding for the series.
