Every so often, a pitch for a television show that never got off the ground leaks onto the internet. More often than not, it’s an original idea; other times, it’s a pitch to revive an older intellectual property. Well, this has just happened when a pitch bible for a reboot of the classic Disney One Saturday Morning cartoon Recess was discovered.
For those who may not remember, Recess was a series created by Paul Germain and Joe Ansolabehere in 1997 for Disney’s One Saturday Morning block. The show followed a group of six friends, all fourth graders, enjoying that special time of day: Recess. The show not only gave us fun adventures with the gang but also commentary on society and social norms through the eyes of a child.
The series ran from 1997 to 2001 and had 65 episodes. It concluded with the theatrical film Recess: School’s Out in 2001 and a handful of direct-to-video specials.

Coleman’s death was confirmed to Variety by his daughter, Quincy Coleman.
“My father crafted his time here on earth with a curious mind, a generous heart, and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity,” Quincy Coleman said in a statment. “As he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery. A teacher, a hero, and a king, Dabney Coleman is a gift and blessing in life and in death as his spirit will shine through his work, his loved ones and his legacy… eternally. In a dystopian world in the near future, a young boy’s humanity has its interest piqued when he comes across an adorable little daemon—a creature that was born from a contaminating particle that was released when nuclear activity causes the earth to briefly overlap with hell. Kento is determined to prove that daemons and humans can live in harmony, but the entire world believes otherwise. Specifically, in Japan, there’s a “peace organization” that experiments on and “exterminates” these daemons if they’re deemed too dangerous. There’s one more thing, though: Kento is on a journey to revive his dead mother with the help of his daemon friend. Will he be able to do it?

I have never been a huge fan of Charlotte York Goldenblatt, the Upper East Side princess played by Kristin Davis in Sex and the City. As a New York Jew, I didn’t relate to her Wasp-y country club optimism, nor was I particularly charmed by her wide-eyed pearl-clutching at her friends’ sexual exploits. (Dude, you copped to rimming your first husband over eggs Benedict. We didn’t forget!) I found her grating and prissy and the most unforgivably callous of the four; in the final season, when she exploded...

Sleepless in Seattle is a romantic comedy-drama that captured hearts worldwide in 1993. The movie starred Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan as the lead characters, Sam and Annie. However, a young yet pivotal character stole the show and left a lasting impression on viewers. This character was none other than Jonah Baldwin, Sam’s son, played by Ross Malinger.
The star was only 9 years old when he appeared in the movie, but his acting skills were remarkable. Despite the success of Sleepless in Seattle, Ross Malinger ultimately decided to leave acting behind. Today, Malinger is a car salesman living away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.

It’s been nine years since Sonny Moore released Recess, his first album as the Edm mastermind Skrillex, and while Quest for Fire is technically his second album, he’s hardly been away from the spotlight. He’s kept busy, releasing a steady stream of singles and collaborative projects, and producing tracks for chart-toppers like Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran, as well as next-wave artists like PinkPantheress. He even reunited with From First to Last, the Warped Tour denizens he fronted at the height of the MySpace era.

“Into the shadow/Always break my light and/Please don’t leave me like this/Stay with me ’til the night ends,” the song’s guiding sentiment begs, recurring throughout its pulsing production.
A snippet from “Leave Me Like This” first appeared in a teaser trailer Skrillex shared on social media at the top of the year.

Pop is always a little more interesting when Skrillex is around. The hardcore artist-turned-megaproducer/DJ helped popularize dubstep in the mainstream while also ushering an Edm-forward era of both pop music and rap. But in the last several years, he quietly stepped back from being one of our most prolific stars, popping up sparingly to collaborate with new and old friends.
Fans were ecstatic when he teased new music on New Year’s Day, and he fulfilled his promise just a few days later with “Rumble” featuring Fred Again.. and Flowdan.

Thanks to the Duffer Brothers, I can no longer watch any Sean Astin movie without mourning the tragic death of Bob Newby from "Stranger Things," and "The Goonies" is no exception. In the classic childhood adventure, Mikey Walsh (Astin) leads a group of friends –- collectively known as the Goonies –- in their search for a hidden treasure to save their neighborhood from being demolished to make way for a golf resort. "Superman" director Richard Donner directed the film that was penned by Chris Columbus, who later directed the first two "Home Alone" movies.
But it was Steven Spielberg, the film's executive producer, who came up with the story. The revered filmmaker got the idea for the movie while filming another movie, which is not uncommon. John Hughes got the idea for "Home Alone" while working with Macaulay Culkin on the set of "Uncle Buck," and Will Smith pitched the...

Kevin Lima's "A Goofy Movie" usually isn't listed as part of the Disney Renaissance. The film "wasn't even a B movie. It was a C movie," as Don Hahn (a producer on "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Lion King") recalled to Vanity Fair in honor of the movie's 25th anniversary in 2020. Much of the film's animation was outsourced to Disney Animation's smaller outlets in Paris and Australia, as well as non-Disney studios in Canada and Spain. The whole thing might've been scrapped, too, had it not already been greenlit by the head of Disney's film division, Jeffrey Katzenberg, just prior to his departure in the mid-1990s.
I bring all this up not to trash "A Goofy Movie" (I would never!), but to point out how ironic it is this "C movie" would go on to develop a passionate following, rivaling those for any of the Disney Renaissance hits.

The late 1990s was a golden age for serialized animation for young audiences. Matt James has accepted the rose to become the first black Bachelor in franchise history. James, whose casting was announced Friday on “Good Morning America” after repeated calls from fans and alums for the franchise to fix its diversity problem, is now also the first Bachelor since Matt Grant in 2008 to not have competed on a prior season of “The Bachelorette.” But he’s not a complete newbie to Bachelor Nation.

Davis died in his home on February 16. The death has been ruled an accident.
The grandson of the late studio Fox chief Marvin Davis and philanthropist Barbara Davis, Davis was best known as the voice of Mikey Blumberg on the Disney Channel animated series “Recess.” As a child actor, he also made guest appearances on a number of other television series, including “Roseanne” and “7th Heaven.”

Sundance is abuzz with the performance of Elizabeth Olsen, who apparently fell out of the same vagina that hatched the Olsen twins. Looks like she took all the talent with her too. But it got me thinking about other showbiz families and what I like to call the Roberts Dichotomy. Namely, Eric and Julia. Both actors, both born of the same genes, and yet, one opens wide her gaping maw and makes gabillions while the other's busy doing B-movies and birthing bigger child stars.
Thing is, I love Eric Roberts. I'll watch The Best of the Best pretty much every time it's on. It's like Rocky for sad lonely kickboxers. It's just strange that Julia gets all the accolades. And so started up a list of other semi-talented siblings overshadowed by the crazy successful brethren/sistern.
Fun Fact: Nicolas Cage, Sofia Coppola, and Jason Schwartzmann are all first cousins. Jason's mother is Talia Shire.
